Oh that sounds like a terrible situation! I'm so sorry. I count my lucky stars the situation isn't as bad as that. Their daughter came over today and said they are just all hot air and they won't do anything and have given up. Their daughter is lovely, so here's hoping it's all going to subside. Still not speaking to them though, lol.

Oh sorry, he's just turned 3 :) and is a complete clown! Also he's a copy cat and if we have puppies visiting will chase the chickens instead of guarding them. It's like he's staying in perpetual puppyhood but we don't mind.

Hi Tralee, I was actually given him by a friend as a pup. He was bred as a livestock protection dog. i didn't really want a Maremma but he was cute and she asked me if I would take him. His father was reg apparently but he's not show quality and is desexed. According to her all his brothers and sister (5 I think) were returned for random reasons and she had to rehome them onto farms. I've never had a problem with him, he's just the BEST dog, I've made sure he has socialisation at least 5 times a week whether a walk or obedience. His happiness is very important to me and so is the public view of him, as many people around here believe them to be aggressive. Although I've had a lady argue with me telling me he's definitely a huge Golden retriever cross samoyed.

Hi guys, my Maremma is the most beautiful dog in all of history (I may be biased lol) but he especially loves when puppies come to visit. Here he is tolerating his groupies. She hasn't been taught manners yet. They went home and he said "where'd they go?"

OMG Call the POLICE, they're the ones that need to get involved now and call the council, have this dog PTS! Obviously these people are complete idiots when it comes to dog ownership and have created a heinous situation for both neighbours! Huskies need so much brain and physical activity. There's a guy who has a husky and walk it around here, half hour every day and the dog is MENTAL, whenever I see it coming and am walking my dogs I cross the road and walk up the other street, I swear if it got off that would be the end of my dogs. I'm so sorry this happened to your daughter! hugs to you and yours.

I rescued a kelpie from the pound about 6 weeks ago. She had a bald patch about 5cm long by 2cm wide on her inner front leg at the top. I assumed it was some kind of parasite so the vet treated her but it has stayed. I took her back to the vet and he has no idea as it's not a parasite. It's just a smooth bald area, no scaly patches or anything like that, just as if the hair has never grown there. I thought it could have been caused by anxiety and licking her legs as some dogs do but I've been like a hawk watching her and she doesn't do that...I'm very confused as to what it could be. It's not tender to touch or anything. Are dogs sometimes born with bald spots?

Hi, I live very close Wagga! I have a Maremma that loves playing! Would love him to have some big dog playmates!

My Mother has agreed to take all my dogs, as it would break her heart to "lose more of me". So I can rest easy knowing they'll be in good hands.

All my dogs are very expressive and you know immediately what they're thinking (or at least have a good idea). It's amazing really.

The kelpie I have now is a foster that i have to finish paying the adoption fee on. I actually saw her int he pound and asked to foster her with no intention of ever letting her go. I bonded with her through the pound gate and that was it. I also fostered her pups and they were adopted very quick as they were ADORABLE! I call her my "Foster win"

Excellent, thanks for the advice, very similar in terms of growth and activity as the maremma. I'm very new to agility and don't really know anything so any advice is useful, this rescue kelpie will be the first dog i've done agility with. Until then it's been all sheep dog trials and obedience.

Just had a conversation and we've decided that we're not going to let crazy neighbours dictate to us how we shoudl live, so we're putting up an 8ft fence so they have o idea what's going on. Apparently though there's talk that they're thinking of moving...hopefully!!! Crossing all fingers

Oh wow, thank for that Dyzney! yeah that's why i'm waiting until the end of the year to sort out the neighbours, but that being said we live ina very rural area and large blocks and I refuse to let neurotic morons dictate on the number of dogs I can have. They are harmless enough and we just had a discussion and will be building an 8ft wooden fence so they'll have no idea what we're up to, as dogs is what I want to do and I only have one life and won't let them ruin it with their made up crapola. But will get the fence up before i bring one in. The ranger is on our side though which makes life easier. Althugh I did hear inthe wind yesterday that they were considering moving (back to idiotville hopefully) Loved the videos, yes I don't want a high drive one but I do want a male as I love male dogs. I am really excited that they love agility as I want to get into seriously and have set up a large agility area in the yard. I can't wait to get started now!! Thanks so much and I may ask your advice later on, once my boy has arrived.

Haha. I've done herding most of my life and yard dog work. I am aiming for something a bit different now and to be honest I'm kind of sick of sheep lol.

Hi guys, I have been considering it for a while and at the end of this year I will purchasing a rottie pup from one of the reg breeders on here (yet to be decided which). I have done obedience, am starting in agility, have done pulling and yard dog trials, but I'm after something a little different. i have 3 other dogs here that all do their own thing, agility for the kelpie and obedience for the maremma, sleeping for the JRT, but I'm after something a bit more exciting. I love pulling but in central NSW there's not much of that, Schutzhund is fantastic but again not much of that here. I'd love to do tracking or hiking as that's right up my alley. but what sports do Rotties excel at? I am willing to travel to do training and compete. Are there many rots in agility?

Thanks for that advice, the ranger came over about 2 weeks ago as there was a complaint that the Maremma had gotten out and was out. They didn't know he was just around the corner and when he arrived the Maremma was sunning himself at the back of our block. Apparently he got out through three secure farm gates then quickly got back in with no help from anyone and went to sleep at amazing speed. He just shook his head and agreed that our dogs were fine and he also commented that he could hear her little dogs yapping form inside the neighbour's house. He was like "that must be annoying". Our other neighbours know that if the maremma barks then something is going on as he's not a barker (unusual for the breed I know), they have stopped talking to the crazy lady as well. they were looking after my dogs the other day and they said that the grandson was playing by the fence and when he saw my dogs who were just sniffing around, he screamed and ran away, then she hugged him and told him and i quote " the big mean doggies are locked up, it's ok" like WTH??? ugh, I will do that and start keeping a diary. Thank you!

There were dogs being stolen in my area (central NSW area) a while back, it seems they've moved up north now. It worries me with such a transient violence that they're going to recruit many new people from the next generation. There needs to be a dog fighting task force!

I would but I study from home and to be honest they bark so much that i don't really care any more. they don't annoy me and I don't want to make a big deal out of it or report her dogs in return, I just want peace, because this whole situation is ridiculous and makes no sense! I'm hoping they're just going to give up because my dogs don't bark enough to warrant recording unless they put it on repeat.

it's crazy, my maremma loves his playtime int he afternoon and will play bark but now I have to check to make sure they're not home so that they don't record him or report me. I'm actually considering moving as I don't want him to be considered a nuisance when he isn't. UGH.

That really concerns me. I have a maremma that protects my property and other dogs but I have friends that own staffies and bulldogs and they're so scared, they're wrapping their pups in cotton wool. It's heinous!

Hi guys, new here and I currently have 3 dogs and will be getting my forth towards the end of the year. I have a Maremma (very socialised and trained in obedience) A Jack Russell (not a yapper) A rescued kelpie (i've had her for about 2 months and am yet to hear her make any noise) and at the end of the year will be purchasing a Rottweiler pup for obedience, tracking and maybe Schutzhund later on. We live on a large farm block and have neighbours on both sides, but quite a distance away. One side are friends and love us, the others..I dunno. they have 5 little yapping dogs that bark whenever a leaf blows, they have 1 that is HIGHLY neurotic and aggressive and NEVER stops barking. Anything will set it off. The lady who lives there is scared of any dog larger than a foxy and is really scared of my Maremma. I went to long lengths when they moved in to introduce her to him and show her that he was a gorgeous boy and she seemed great. Then her grandson moved in, everything was fine although occasionally she'd say the maremma would growl at her through the fence, I was concerned as it didn't sound like him so went out to watch, what she thought was a growl was his play moan, followed by a play bow. i explained that he wanted to play and wasn't being aggressive but then she went on about how Maremma's shouldn't be pets and they're aggressive etc etc. Everything was fine for a while, we had a few foster dogs come on for a few weeks. one was a lab cross girl and was adorable but loved climbing fences. One day she climbed their fence and started playing with their dogs. I had no idea and she phoned me up and started yelling at me telling me my dog was in er yard trying to kill her dogs. I ran out and saw this dog laying on the ground, tail wagging a million miles with 3 of her dogs laying on top all in a big play ball. I called her back over and brought her inside. I apologised for the upset and we had the dog taken to a new foster home. The 4 weeks later we had a visit form the ranger, apparently our dogs barked through the night, all night. The ranger wasn't amused when I laughed, but then I explained that how could the dogs bark all ngiht when two were inside and one was in the garage? So all in all we are now not speaking to them and every time our dogs bark at anything at any time she calls the ranger who has now stopped coming over. basically she's scared of dogs and is making a mountain out of...nothing! It's craziness! We've basically barricaded that side of our property so our dogs can't get there but they still complain that our dogs escape when they can't, bark when they don't and that I'm breeding dogs which is RIDICULOUS, considering all my dogs are desexed. I explained to her that from time to time other dogs would come on as I foster temporarily for a local rescue and occasionally babysit a friend's very quiet dog. any way, rant over. I just wonder if any of you have gone through similar circumstances and how you coped as I hate living like this My dogs are all trained and socialised and It sucks
