  1. I thought we would have at least a little more time my darling girl but it just wasn't to be.  Sitting here second guessing my decision to say goodbye but you deserved better than that.  After all the things you went through in your whole life this just doesn't seem fair.

What a beautiful adventure it was to share with you, just not long enough but then it would never be long enough.

You filled the house with so much personality and attitude from the day I picked you up and I would do anything to have you here with me still, making me laugh everyday.

I've lost my shadow and it just hurts to breathe knowing I can't hold you and touch you anymore.  You'll never be there hanging your floppy jowls over my face in the morning, hogging the bed and snuggling under the covers in Winter and it will be too quiet without your burping, farting and snoring. There won't be anymore of your showing off your tricks to beg for more food or running through the house and yard like a loon.  No more walking with you in the park or at the beach and no more of your wiggling bum when I come in the door. There will just be no more you and me.

Nothing will ever be the same my beautiful girl - you made everyone who met you smile and laugh and I love you so so much.

Any tablets or liquid medication here goes into honey, I crush the tablets and mix it through the honey, rub a bit on the lips and the rest on the gums, never had a problem doing it this way, honey is an anti biotic as well.

Thank you - I've got a selection now = we have sardines  or scrambled eggs and tomato sauce to try first and if not we will have to try the honey. Thanks everyone will update tomorrow.

And when you’re feeding it give a few tiny pieces of the untainted food first. Get them excited about the taste so they swallow more quickly. You don’t want your dog sniffing suspiciously.

I'll try - she's not really herself at the moment. She's just come home today from an oral exam under anaesthetic yesterday and isn't showing much interest in anything. Hoping in the morning she is more aware but I'll have to get some tramadol into her later tonight.

  4. Crump has to be given liquid tramadol every 8-10 hours - Can anyone please give me some ideas what I can put it in/on/with to get it down. Syringe gets it into her mouth but she just gags and coughs. She can only eat soft food in tiny pieces mixed with water.  She's also on liquid Meloxicam which goes on her food no problem but the tramadol stinks and she won't have a bar of it.

  5. I don't know if this would work but I had some of those black rubber camping mats from Bunnings ( not the ones with holes in ), they come in a 4 pack I think. I used them to cover the kitchen floor when Crump did her first cruciate ligament.  I glued 12 of them together and it goes about halfway up the side so that she doesn't have to jump completely from the floor. although my bed is only 520mm from the floor to the top of the mattress.  If you can glue about maybe 6 or 7 full size ones together and then another 6 or 7 cut in half on top it might fashion a sort of step he can handle. They are about 600 x 600 square. Hope that makes sense. Don't use any of the smelly glues or you'll gas yourself and the animals. I tried using a ramp but mine wouldn't have a bar of it but they use these mats. Even if they are on the other side of the bed they will both cross to the side where the mats are and jump up or down.

  6. One year today since I had to say goodbye to you my gorgeous little man. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I wish I could have had some time to get my head around saying goodbye before you had to go, it all just felt so rushed and I wasn't ready and I just wanted the clock to stop for a while so I could come to some acceptance of what needed to be done. Most of all I wish I could go back and have an outcome that would have you still here with me today. Things are just so different here without you, and I'm still struggling especially at night. I miss absolutely everything you bought to the house, you were such a quirky little character, the smallest of the pack with the biggest presence and me and the girls just haven't been the same since. Tonight I will sit out with you under the bedroom window and try to open the letter that the vet sent me after I lost you but I still don't know if I can face that. I hope you are up there watching over us knowing how much we all miss you and waiting till we can all be together again. So until then, play nicely up there with all the other special furry and feathered ones - I love you Hoover my special little boy - kiss kiss.

    1. How many dogs do you have, and what are their names, ages and breeds?

I only have two now - Crumpet - nearly 9 British Bulldog and Shabby - 12 PBGV

    2. Do you have plans for a new addition?

Yes and No - I have been in contact with a breeder but want to wait until my girls are no longer with me - I don't think they would cope with a bouncy puppy in the house - Shab is getting really fragile now and Crump is not tolerant with dogs/puppies in her face

    3. Did you have dogs growing up?

Yes - Basset Hounds mainly and a few RSPCA dogs

    4. Do you have names saved for any future dogs?

No - I  usually wait until I have a new dog/puppy to try and pick something that suits

    5. What is your favourite breed?

No particular favourites but I seem to be drawn to the rarer breeds

    6. What is your favourite group?

I'd probably have to go with Hounds

    7. Is there a breed that you admire, but probably wouldn't own?

    Bull Terriers

    8. Do you compete with your dogs in any discipline?

    No

    9. Have you had an achievement, large or small, with a dog that you're particularly proud of?

Maybe getting Shab to have a recall and leash manners - When I got her she had none whatsoever, she used to pull like a freight train and if she got onto a scent she liked there'd be no way I could have got her back. Now we can go off leash at the beach / dog park and she is fantastic. The only thing she loses control over is Ducks

    10. What games do your dogs most enjoy playing

Crumpet loves playing soccer but the ball only lasts about 3 minutes and she loves playing with tug toys ( with me now that Hoover is gone ) and Shab has never shown any interest in any toy, she prefers to play hunting for treats that I hide

    11. Are you drawn more to male or female dogs?

I think I would prefer males

    12. What are your favourite coat patterns or colours?

I love seeing a lovely shiny black dog - doesn't matter what breed

    13. What discipline or sport in the dog world do you find most interesting?

    Tracking

    14. What would be your dream household of dogs?

To have my Hoover back with the three of us again - my house is just not the same any more

    15. Where is your favourite walk?

    At the local beach

    16. Does your dog have any funny habits?

Crumpet is a screamer - if she can't get what she wants she makes a horrible gurgling scream, usually if she is put outside while I mop the floors or if Shab is on the lounge and she wants to sit in that spot she will stand in front of her and start up with the wailing. She also will not walk on her lead with anyone but me on the other end of it

Shab is a talker - when I get home she always tells me about her day, she also does it with people she knows and likes - I think she might be complaining to them about me

    17. Do you have a favourite piece of dog gear?

My treat belt and Crumpets "Help me up " harness

    18. What are your goals for your dogs?

To make sure they are loved and looked after for however long they are with me

    19. Have you had what you consider to be a heart dog?

My first dog as an adult - Raven was a Rottie who I got when I was 23. She was my shadow. She had a tumour on her oesophagus when she was about 3 years old and I had to let her go when she was on the operating table - I didn't get another dog for about 5 years after I lost her.

    20. List five things you love about your dog

    Shab                                                                          Crump

    Always happy                                                             Complete clown

    Absolutely beautiful                                                    Unbelievably Stubborn

Friendly nature with everyone                                    Under the doona winter spooning

Her whole body wiggles when she wags                     Her beautiful squishy face

The easiest dog I have ever owned                            She is incredibly smart

And... post a picture of your dog/s

Gutsy westie....mmmhmmm... maybe that's the way to go. I love a dog with its own personality, point of view on life, guts, etc.

BTW, today, I have discovered what I think is a melanoma growth on my baby HonBun (11 YO bulldog). We've been to see Angus and the biopsy has been taken, Hoping for a good outcome next week.

Fingers crossed for HonBun and yourself Kajtek - I hope all goes well.

  9. I just read that Buddy is going home ( don't know how to post a link )

    from the Riverine Herald

UPDATE 4.25pm: THE dog involved in the Moama river tragedy on Thursday will be returned to its owners.

The pitbull was seized by Murray River Council rangers on Thursday night at the request of NSW Police.

Murray River Council interim general manager Margot Stork said NSW Police had since advised council their investigations found the dog was responding to extreme circumstances.

‘‘It is likely that the dog was acting in reasonable defence of the nine-year-old boy that was subsequently hospitalised,’’ she said.

‘‘The NSW Police have advised council that they will not be seeking an order to destroy this animal.’’

A petition ‘Help Save Buddy’ was launched on the weekend to protect the pitbull, who many believe had saved the nine-year-old boy.

‘‘The dog is well and presently being cared for in a Murray River Council facility,’’ Ms Stork said.

‘‘Since the incident, we have microchipped the dog and are working with the dog’s owner to register the dog and set up the appropriate conditions to enable the dog to return home.

‘‘The owner has visited the dog at council’s facility and is working with us to ensure compliance with all obligations under the Companion Animals Act.’’
