  1. a cheap solution for a super heavy duty non plastic water bowl is an old concrete wash trough. or get stainless steel buckets and make a fixture to attach them to something, as in hook them or tie them to a solid structure.
  2. Why do you say this? Allergies are common in my family and it is not uncommon for reactions to be localised around the mouth, surely the same could apply to dogs? And if it were a contact allergy, one would expect the skin irritation to be more generalised, I would think. I am highly allergic to pineapple and mango skin. Only the skin. I can handle the whole fruits and ingest the flesh but if the skin touches my lips in any way, I get terrible rash On my lips and around my mouth ,of pimples and cracked skin, and look like a clown for a fortnight!
  3. I was wondering whether someone has come and knocked on your door, and maybe even tried to peer through the windows or make a twat of themselves and deliberately try to scare your dog for barking behind the door. Or a cat perhaps teasing her at the windows, mewing at the door. Or have there been any works or building going on around your street that might be causing unusual or loud noises. Is the dog ever generally noise phobic. Maybe also double check with neighbours your dog hasn't been causing any noise disturbances whilst you are away from home.
  4. You can buy doggie nail polish and do it yourself. A tip is to push a piece of stocking over the foot until the nails pop through, so you only get paint on the nails and any wobbles go on then stocking not on the hair. Also if they are quite big nails you can use the human nail art stickers from the cheap shops.
  5. Even if she has had a vaccination it is likely she hasn't finished her puppy vaccinations and you should speak to a vet about that anyway, so why not take her for a check up and you can ask about what further puppy vaccs she needs, and find out about worming and heart worm and flea treatment etc while you are there. You will get peace of mind and proffessional advice about your puppies health care, and if it turns out she really is unwell, you will be in the right place. Babies can go down hill fast so please see the vet. Most do late afternoon and evening consultations so give them a call ASAP. Good luck.
  6. I met a BTCH once about hmm, 15 or so yrs ago at a Bloodhound kennel in Vic( also met an Otterhound there <3 ) , and also met one at a show in SA a few yrs back. I only met it for a few minutes but heard it most of the day! Just yesterday I noticed the Tatra on the breed list and was wondering...."
  7. Ima gonna cross some poodles with some other poodles and market them as poopoo's coz people would rather shell out a gazillion for a PooPoo than one of those Poodles. Marketing magic! Imagine if I have brown puppies..... Designer purebreed chocolate poopoo puppies.....kaching :p
  8. I think you buy those Belgium Shepherds from the same kennel as the Burmese Mountain Dogs, right?.
  9. I have been lucky enough to own one about 20 or so years ago, and worked at a kennel for 3 years that had several of them. Awesome animals.
  10. I was coming in to suggest Bouvier Des Flandres too. They are naturals at harness work, have proud stable temperaments and are one of the original "nanny" breeds. They are the right size, hardy, healthy and reasonable longevity for a large breed. Just keep the coat clipped off 3 or 4 times a year. If you cant do wet beards, just clip all over..they are still very handsome dogs even shaved off.
  11. Please can you reply, will I need to renovate the back yard to replicate the dead grass & scrub like environment in which this breed obviously originated, and do you have a YouTube video you can recommend to prepare us for grooming our new pet...... And do they come in blue?? Eta.... Can you also please clarify that this is in fact a separate breed from the Doberanian that we purchased at Xmas last year which didn't quite suit our needs, and sold for a lot less than market value on gumtree. We don't want to make that mistake again.
  12. This is how I pronounce it and people always look at me like I am stupid ! Thank you !
  13. Having owned several Chihuahuas I think a well bred well reared Chi would give you what you are looking for in a small package Eta...to say Chihuahuas are my number 1 favourite breed :)
  14. I had a cracker of a dog park story from one of my clients during the week. They had been there for a while when they noticed one particular dog, a Malamute , did not seem to be attended by anyone. They went around and enquired with everyone but no owner could be found for the dog. The dog had a collar & council disk so they caught the dog and called the council, who some time later came to collect it. The council ranger called my client later to finish off the story...... The ranger called the owner and says 'Do you own a Malamute?', Owner says 'Yes but she's locked up safe now!". Ranger asks 'Where?'. Owner say 'Oh, she escaped this morning but we found her and now she is safe'. Again ranger asks 'Where?'...Owner says 'Oh we dropped her off at the dog park so we could go shopping in the city!!!!!!!!!!' Owner freely admitted where they had left the dog before the ranger disclosed that he now had custody of their dog! Dog only knows what goes through some peoples heads....obviously not oxygen in some cases
  15. Glad to hear miss Noodle is doing well. :) I was amazed how that little Poodle I was telling you about recovered when he had both hip joints removed on the same day as he had both knees fixed! Gentle hug & kiss for Noodle
  16. So what would this one be?? I live approx 1 hrs east of Adelaide and people don't think there are ticks around here..... I took this one off a baby sleepy lizard this morning. It is not the first time I have picked one off of a local reptile.
  17. Frosty is great & no trouble at all! I know it can never make up for the diabolical actions of the groomer involved in harming Miley, but many groomers from all over the country raised a lot of money to donate to Mileys cause. A personal visit was made to the family to meet Miley and pass on the donation. There was a genuine feeling of horror & dismay throughout the grooming community. I was horrified when I first heard about it several weeks ago. Cage drying is all about dollars and not at all about dogs
  18. I think the thread title refers to the life of the child "its life" , not calling the child an it.... I hope you aren't a teacher because you are totally wrong :) No thankfully I'm just a stupid dog groomer
  19. I think the thread title refers to the life of the child "its life" , not calling the child an it....
  20. I have heard so many combinations even from owners of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel! They all get that one wrong, and most of them don't actually know there is a separate breed, the King Charles Spaniel. I believe there is some history of calling the black & tan colour 'Prince Charles' I have heard people who do actually mean to reference the King Charles Spaniel call it a Prince Charles Spaniel.
  21. Now that would be a good law to have in place. All salons to be in open view I am recommending you :) lol Christina! You know I groom 'Mignon' yes?? And while I sort of agree that salons should be open to view, considerations must also be made for the type of salon it is (in my case a one woman show, in others busy multiple groomer salons) because designs should always take into account what is best for all of the dogs in the salon. Some open view designs could actually make for a more dangerous grooming environment for the dog.
  22. I can't believe a groomer would rather risk a dog jumping or falling off a table than use a tether! If used correctly tethers will never harm a dog and will keep them safe from falling or jumping while you are busy concentrating on grooming them, possibly with sharp tools in your hand. I only use the Groomers Helper tether as a dog cannot back off the table, jump off the table or even fall off the table on this tether. The tether has fast release clips and is fabric which can be cut with scissors in an emergency. The design actually calms dogs without me having to constantly reposition or manhandle the dog, so I can go about the grooming safely & confidently knowing there is no way that dog can land on my floor. It is only ever good for the dog. I hate seeing untetherd dogs who are then at risk of jumping or falling which may result in death, broken limbs, smashed teeth, bitten tongues or teeth through tongues & lips, smashed jaws, concussions, and sprains and bruises and even just a scared dog. Not all injuries are physical. Of course what is never ever acceptable is leaving a dog outside your line of sight on a table tethered or not. eta.... and yes I have groomed on my own for 27 yrs because what I have witnessed 'behind closed doors' has shocked me too. My whole salon is set up so owners can see the whole set up, and I finish my dogs right up front where anyone can see what I am doing & how I am handling the dogs. I have nothing to hide.
