  1. I just had my Bergamasco's hips and elbows done 2 weeks ago.

Hes 29kg & it cost approx $400 total, for xrays & scoring.

The xrays were done in SA, sent to Dr Lavelle in Victoria & I had the results back 8 days later ????

That's pretty quick! How does the scoring system work for each?

  2. The bigger the dog the more it costs as they gave to have a GA to be done. The actual scoring is around $100 for both hips and elbows. You need to find a vet that is familiar with doing it as incorrectly positioned dogs can get worse scores then they actually have or even have to re do them. The xrays are sent away to be scored by one of several vets in the country. Cost me about $400 to get xrays recently in my 32 kilo bitch. Your breed club should be able to help you find an experienced vet.

    Thank you!

  3. Thanks Huga, I'm definitely not naive when it comes to dogs/breeds so I had assumed the mini frenchie was just a shonky selling tool but thought I would clarify. Thank you very much for the link

  4. Hi guys! My hubby and I are looking to add a Frenchie to the family in Id say about 2 years. We know a little about the breed but would like to learn as much as possible before we actually get one. Someone told me you can get mini frenchies but I assume that's about as accurate as a teacup chihuahua hahaha.

When choosing a breeder, what should we look for? We are in qld so if there's any qld breeders/owners in this thread Id love some feedback

We currently own an 11 month old Great Dane, 4 year old boxer and 5 year old chihuahua

  5. This is Baylee with Tigger. Tigger lasted for 11 and 1/2 years. He was Baylee's first toy when she came home as a 9 week old puppy (yes he was bigger than she was) and slept with her for her entire life. If Tigger was put in the toy box during a cleanup of toys, at bed time he was ceremoniously retrieved and taken up stairs to her bed, where he belonged. She would flea him every night on her bed. As you can see he was never destuffed but was suffering from small flea holes.

The nose wrinkles are killing me!!!

  6. So my dogs are obsessed with rawhide, they enjoy other chews as well which they get but rawhide lasts at least a couple of days.

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can buy decent sized rawhide in bulk? Obviously there's ebay but they're not really any cheaper than going to a pet store.

    Thanks :)

  7. I guess this counts as waiting for a pup...! A couple of months ago I posted in the general discussion forum about adopting a greyhound once my partner and I moved to Bendigo.

WELL, as the universe would have it, I decided not to limit myself by breed and started checking out some rescue organisations in the local area, and I fell in love with the most gorgeous looking Bull Arab pup, who's between eight months to a year old. He has the most thoughtful eyes and is apparently a big loveable goofball, which is exactly what I was after. I kept my eye on him as the time grew nearer for us to adopt, and they kept updating the facebook page with more photos of him, and of course I fell further in love!

He got adopted by a couple with another dog at the end of March, and I was happy to see him off to a good home (if not a little disappointed). But he was back in care within two weeks, their other dog had hip dysplasia and when the two dogs played it was almost like WWE Wrestling! So as much as they liked him they just couldnt risk further injury to their current dog, so they returned the pup.

And thats when I knew. Something in me just said yes, it has to happen now. My partner and I started to plan, and think about how life would be with this dog in our lives. I contacted the organisation at the beginning of this week and had a LONG chat to one of the girls who runs it, and we are meeting the pup tomorrow :D

SO EXCITING! I'm off work sick today with a cold so I can hardly wait, I'm going to get everything prepared tonight because everything going well we're going to be bringing home our new member of the family tomorrow. I've had a long history with dogs, worked with greyhounds, staffies and my dad bred boxers many moons ago, and I miss the relationship we as humans have with them.

Poppy the greyhound was my heart dog, I used to run home from high school to my trainers place and she would be so excited to see me. I'd let myself into her pen, climb into her bed, she would climb in after me and rest her head on my lap. I dont suppose she ever knew how much she helped me back then, and I dont think I knew either, but she did. Sometimes I would cry, but she loved me without judgement. My mental health hasnt been the best lately, this is partly the reason why I'm looking forward to getting a dog, so I'm probably going to cry tomorrow!

Sorry for the thesis :p I promise to post an update tomorrow!

YAY!!! Sounds like it was meant to be!My cousin has a bull arab and he's the most darling boy ever, almost as tall as a great dane and he's soooo gentle with his human sister who is only 7 months!

On another note - I get my baby in 4 sleeps!!!!

  8. Thanks for the insight guys. I think he's about 8. I thought cushings but he doesn't seem to fit the description. I hope he's ok. I'll look up ascites as I've never heard of it. I'll be going to the vet with mum as she will probably be overwhelmed with whatever the vet says

  9. So for about the last 1.5-2 weeks my mums dog (poodle x shihtzu x maltese) has had a hard tummy which looks like he's just eaten a big meal & his breathing sounds what I'd describe as wheezing. He's not acting any differently in anyway, eating, drinking & toileting are all normal & he's happy as can be.

He's off to the vet on Wednesday (her vet is on holiday) so I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be?

Everything I google brings up bloat which it quite obviously isn't.

  10. Hahahaha our whole house is monochrome so he'll fit in well!!! We seriously love all the colours, it was just a matter of finding "the one".

The bottom line, and really only line, of being owned by a new puppy.

The puppy must be the ONE to tug the heart strings...

( as well as being healthy, of good temperament).

Welcome again, Baxter, The One

Haha thanks! Next saturday can't come fast enough. The breeder says he's the snuggliest so I'm pretty happy about that - pretty sure I'm going to cry when we pick him up!

  11. Hahahaha our whole house is monochrome so he'll fit in well!!! We seriously love all the colours, it was just a matter of finding "the one".

hehe you might have trouble finding him!

I know a lady with a Blue Great Dane and her lounge was the suede in grey/blue, and she was forever thinking he was missing and then realising he was just sleeping on the couch

    Haha oh dear!

  12. Thanks guys your response is amazing!!! We're so excited. I am trying to work at getting pics resized on photo bucket so I can upload and then I will post direct into the GD thread.

    He is black ????

We weren't even planning on black but his little white chin almost killed us bc it's the same as our boxers lol
