Yup. I've trained 3 pups in the middle of winter with an umbrella and my nightie. Get grumpy, get a leash. And using a toilet word obsessively at the top of your lungs is good for teaching them to go quickly and to keep the neighbours away from the crazy lady.
Aw, I did not realise you knew me that well!
We were doing variations of this scenario at 05:55am today.....
Poor Herbert was poorly. He needed to do what he had done a mere 4 hours earlier....
Cue grumpy crazy Momma

Another point is bending over backwards, being on call 24/7 leads to burn out and then resentment. Again, people are the issue.

I think your approach is fine.
People are dip shits.

Pick from theses:
Brilliant
Capable
Most skilled.

Thank you Cynthia :-) I miss Kajtek terribly but HonBun misses him even more
I know (based on my rep as an Australian Bulldog owner) that I can get an AB from the best lines. I just thought that a pure BB was a way to go. I am very confused now.
I know I can import what I want from Europe (really don't care about $). I'll just send my OH to EU to select and get the BB I want. It's no drama but I've hoped that someone here would like their dog to have a really 'good life'.
Maybe I was wrong about the pure BB in Oz. Maybe the breeders of BBs are not interested. Just don't know.
Maybe I should just give up and either import the dog or adopt a dog from a pound.
I am so, so confused atm.
Aw, what a shame. Maybe the timing is not right and there is that wonderful dog there. I so understand the emptiness for both you and wee Hun Bun.. I can not yet pick another dog for us. It just seems nothing works. Unlike you, I have not spoken too much about this. We have the darling Herbert but I know we all need another dog.
Gentle Hugs xxx

I was wondering if the greyhound was not suitable but correctly chosen, they would be great, why not go with the dachshund? The fact one is keen might sway the other as well....
Unknown bred to both might backfire, IMO.
-
Unless they were mad keen on the breed for some reason I probably wouldn't suggest a GSP, Viz or or a Weim. Awesome but need a fair whack of mental stimulation and structure.
And secure fences with a reasonably sized back yard are needed.
One of the Vizsla girls had no issues in climbing the 11 foot fence.... Such fun
The current Vizsla is actively engaged in doing a complete engineering make over of the same yard.....
Holes spaced 22 inches apart. Said holes appear to be an effort to get back to Queensland.
I know this because his litter brother [ in Queensland] is digging similar holes to attempt a reunion.
BOTH dogs have plenty of exercise, activity but they gotta dig

So sorry to hear of Benny being ill.
Do your best to keep him as free of pain as possible. That is the most crucial thing.
Hugs to you at this time.

I feed raw whole fish weekly and fish heads sometimes. I generally feed a whole Sardines daily as part of brekky unless the evening meal is fish  ... sounds like a bloody restaurant :)
The best policy is to freeze for 3 weeks prior to feeding and then you will have no worries with parasites :-)
Most of the issues with parasites are from fish in the northern hemisphere so I am not too fastidious with freeze times depending on the type of fish.
I prefer fish that are whole and make up one meal - so for my dog it is around a 300g fish.
If I ever buy a fish with a particularly spiny dorsal or other fins I just trim them off. I also generally prefer the non giant fish as there is less likelihood of mercury or other heavy metals being present in any detectable amounts.
Ronins favourite fish of the moment is Rainbow Trout Which surprisingly is not too expensive compared with most others and if you shop smart :)
What time can the westies and I join Ronin for dinner??!!
Horrible Herbert is equally hopeful of being invited.
Must make sure to turn off the 'punter or the dog gets delusions of grandeur regarding food.

Gorgeous cats you have there RuralPug, at least it is big enough for both of them
Glad they like the bed Just happy that it is getting some use instead of just sitting here gathering dust or dog hair or cat hair
Gorgeous cats indeed and a lovely gesture by you.

Gutted to hear about the Ellems.
Still I do hope they enjoy some retirement.

Just got Winky yeaterday, a 2 year old GAP greyhound rehome. She is so so sweet. I cant remember how to attach photos though.
it is so nice to have a dog in the house again. They are just so different to GSPs..
anyone else got Greys?
Have you a big lounge? Winky should enjoy lying on that.
Wonderful news, rugerfly.
Sqqqqqqquuuuueeeee. I just saw the photo... Simply gorgeous xxx

Pretty sure there has been a thread in the Traning part of the forum regarding this.
Great concept for people.
It is ongoing training our dogs.

Just wiped my nose on my sleeve. I'm disgusting.
Nope. Just touched by the kindness shown to the beautiful dog.
Darn sand storms.

I love her ears.
She still has that look of mischief on her face. I am sure her mind is always whirling.
I'm not biased AT ALL, but she is super smart. Smarter than me for sure :p it's scary almost how she works things out so quickly. She is super observant.
Going to be as wonderful as Wisdom then
:)

Is a photo of Blaze ever a remedy for winter blues!
Totally adorable and becoming such a beautiful grown up bitch

Swedish vallhunds have a reputation as being stubborn. So do corgis, but comparing my corgis to my vallhund, they aren't stubborn. A Pembroke Corgi would jump through hoops for a piece of lettuce or a "good dog". My vall would think about it and then decide if it was worth her time
Re bolded, exactly what my samoyed does. You can see he is thinking about whether he will obey you or not.
There's no such thing as 'commands' with this breed, only requests.
I would add the Vizsla to this as well.
If motivated or inclined, HH might go along with a request. It can be hard to make the request I could care less if you do it, Dog when you are desperate for cooperation LOL

I replied to this in the other thread in General Discussion. ( preferable to try to not double up)...

I highly recommend Luci and John Ellem at Austral.

I am now more confused.
The links were great.
Thing is Horrible Herbert does not move like the other Vizslas especially in the ring.
When the weather is warmer, we will be doing training in Sydney. With luck I will find a solution.
He is still my Champion

It is rather exciting for the puppy. In NSW they can compete in these classes
Baby of Breed
Best Baby of Group
And
Best Baby in Show.....
I listed a URL to show you....

Horrible Herbert preferred to just kiss stewards and judges when in Baby Puppy class. But he had such fun.
