All rescue organisations are invited to The Groomer’s Shootout (TGS Pty Ltd), an exciting combination of a grooming competition and rescue awareness. Dogs are groomed at no cost and are then on public display to potential adoptive homes as well as promote the dogs not present on the day. This is a unique opportunity to promote your rescue and the invaluable work you do! The contest is designed as a fun event and based on a pet trim produced in a 30-45 minute time frame. Dogs in current need of a home will be presented at their best and show their potential as companions. In addition, rescue will be able to personally explain the goals of their organisations and explain not only how rescue works but how they can assist families in finding a suitable new pet. Many people are still under the misconception that pound dogs are problem dogs so this is the perfect opportunity to educate! It is hoped that The Groomer’s Shootout will become mobile and travel into areas where there is a need to raise awareness of rescue and rehoming. An event can be held with a minimum of 4 groomers and all areas will be considered, not just in the capital cities but in rural and semi-rural areas where there is a need for increased public awareness. The intention of The Groomer’s Shootout is to provide an avenue for all reputable groups to be able to showcase their dogs in need of rehoming. As the purpose of the event is to assist in exposing dogs in need no internal politics will be entered into. No fees are payable to TGS but all groups are responsible for their own expenses. Shade, shelter, water and toileting facilities will be provided on the day but each organisation must provide adequate staff to attend their stand and be responsible for their dogs. All dogs attending must be up to date with their vaccinations and their carers agree to comply with the relevant codes of practice under the Animal Welfare Act for that state. This has been an ongoing issue I have been following for some time.. Kim appeared to have too many horses to feed and look after - approx 200 horses in her care. I do believe she may have hoarding tendancies, yet that is no excuse for the poor condition of many of her horses.

This sweet little man, named 'Scotty' on his microchip and is listed on CAR as a Scottish Terrier. I don't think his face is Scotty - his chin is not 'square' if that makes sense. He also did not have the longer hair on his head/forehead either, so even a Schnauzer groom could not be done by our groomer. He has one erect 'pixie' type ear and the other ear is down giving him a very cutesy look. I also don't think he has the typical skye temperament either. Whatever his breed/s he is a sweet natured little man. We certainly do value the opinions of other dolers and thank each of you for your input. edited to add Glemhaith is in Melbourne and will be back home on monday. Hugs xx LP xx

I have had the same thing happen Rebanne. However our policy is if no microchip is found a second scanner (different brand) is used. On two occassions chip numbers have not matched paperwork and a bit of perserverance has detected two chips implanted in same dog.

Steve it is interesting to note that in the last 5 years I have rescued 3 skye terriers from the same pound. All three were poor examples of the breed and traced back to a breeder in near proximity to same pound. It was interesting to note that same breeder, at the time of one skye being impounded was also advertising skye x maltese pups in the online publication we are not allowed to mention. Breeder is no longer recognised as a registered breeder. Arcane - If you want an older Skye contact David or Julie at Santlin kennels in Victoria. Shmoo, if you take this lovely boy, then I will endeavour to catch up with you with further information. And good for you for putting your name on this one. I have sent the details to the skye breeders (there are only a handful) and I am happy to take any skye or skipperke. Edited to add he is a male, black grey and 1 to 2 years old. I have sent this link to the wonderful skye breeders in melbourne.

Thank you all for the great advice and ideas... Little pup has gained weight this week, and after a thorough checkup from the vet seems to be doing OK. It seems that this pup may have been the product of a second mating while mum was in season, and as such may be a few days behind her littermates in growth. She's a cheeky little bugger too... always the first to check out new toys offered, and she loves chasing your fingers about and biting them... lol! Oh - and her lungs are very well developed - when she wants something, she can definitely let you know about it! We and the vet think she might just be OK... T. ETA: The pups were all treated for Coccidia last weekend, we have since wormed them all too... just gave it a few days to not overload them...

I have had a lengthy conversation with Rachelle who runs Mini Paws Puppy Rescue, and from what she has told me I can see no major problems. Rachelle sounded young (but remember I am not so young, and anyone aged 45 years or below looks and sounds young to me). Rachelle happily gave me permission to talk to her new vet. This new clinic will desex at 10 weeks old, as opposed to the vet she was initially using for her dogs. The dogs are also vaccinated and chipped at the clinic. She is applying for a clause16d exemption and ABN etc. She also stated she is not associated with the well known "Facebook cowboy" group. The RSPCA has apparently been in contact with Rachelle and helped her by answering her many questions. Unless Mini Paws Puppy Rescue proves otherwise, I am happy to support them.
