  1. My brothers family recently lost their beloved rotty cross to cancer He has just emailed to ask what I know about Cane Corsos, as it seems my sister-in-law is interested in getting one, as she wants a big tough looking dog for security because they live on a small property (which is why they had a rotty cross, however he was a big softie with a beautiful temperament). The dog would be a family pet though, not a guard dog. The dog would live in a semi-rural area on 5 acres with stock fencing only. They have another dog, a female Dane cross a few years old. They also have cats, cows, and chooks, and two children, one in primary school and one in high school. My brother has had dogs all his life, but up until now they have not done any formal training with their dogs. Any information about the breed, and whether they would be suitable, would be appreciated. Thanks :)

  6. Hi I am trying to save a greyhound cross female currently in Wagga pound and due to be pts tomorrow. She can get a ride to Canberra on Saturday, but I cant pick her up until Monday. Would anyone be able to meet the transport on Saturday around lunchtime and hold her for me till Monday? Rangers say she is friendly with other dogs, however if you had somewhere seperate to keep her that would be good for quarantine purposes. All dogs at this pound are parvacced. Thanks
  7. I would like to move to Adelaide at some stage but the dog limit is a big issue. I may just have to wait a few years until my dog numbers reduce (sad thought but my oldest boy is 9 )
  8. thank you, it would be no good to me then as I have four dogs Sounded lovely though
  9. You wouldn't happen to know of any jobs going? If so I'll be there asap! I have experience in hospitality, retail and graphic arts/printing.
  10. He is more settled, still not very happy but not as distressed as he was this morning. I think that going to visit Alyosha and her mob was a good idea, it did take his mind off the itch and tire him out a bit, and the neocorte she put on the rash did seem to help too. I had to work this evening and have just come home, while he is still looking very sorry for himself he is much calmer thank goodness. I really do feel sorry for him, he has had such a rough trot, I hope he starts feeling better very soon.
  11. He seems a lot calmer now, thankfully. Poor bubba, it must have really been bothering him.
  12. The pharmacist was most helpful, and I got some rescue remedy, and a spray that is both an anaesthetic and antiseptic. Rescue remedy and spray applied, we will see how he goes. I knocked the bottle of rescue remedy over though and spilt most of it
  13. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. He is fairly quiet at the moment, lying on a bed in the laundry - but him lying quietly is actually unusual behaviour for him. I will head off to the chemist, and had already planned to take Sammy for a visit to Alyosha this afternoon, I will get her to have a look at his wound and see what she thinks. If he doesnt settle somewhat today I will contact another vet, however we are now into 'after hours emergency vet' territory here, none are open now until monday.
  14. oh and he has had a pigs trotter thing, that distracted him for a little while but I had to take his cone off for him to chew it
  15. I was thinking about trying an ice pack. No aloe vera unfortunately. I am a bit afraid to leave him alone to go down to the chemist, but he seems to have settled a bit at the moment now I have come inside and left him, it almost seems like he makes more of a fuss when I am with him?? I have a sneaking suspicion he is a true drama queen, but am still rather concerned... will go check om him now and see how he is going.
  16. I have a 14 month old male afghan foster dog, Sammy. Sam was desexed on Thursday, and he has been licking his stitches so it is a bit red. He now has a cone on his head, but obviously the stitches are bothering him and he keeps trying to get at them and crying and howling. He has been making a huge fuss and racket all morning, and I am very concerned that my neighbours will not be impressed (and they are not the nicest people on one side). I have phoned my vet, but only got the receptionist as one vet is overseas and the other was kicked by a horse yesterday and is in hospital I asked if there is anything I can spray or put on the wound to ease his discomfort, maybe numb it a little, and I was told no there is nothing you can do. Does anyone know of anything that might help? I thought about rescue remedy but I haven't used it before and don't have any on hand, and wouldn't know where to get it from (live in a rural town). Anyone got any suggestions on how I can settle him down a bit? I have never seen a dog make such a fuss after desexing ETA Apart from some redness from him licking the wound, there does not seem to be anything else wrong with him, he is eating and drinking ok and not listless or anything like that.
  17. sorry to hear this Beth, be kind to yourself

I am so very sorry for your loss Bryan, I know how much you loved your mates.
  19. I feel your pain! My mattress has a few suspicious looking stains on it too, and none of them were from me!!! When it was brand new a few years go, one of the dogs decided to 'christen' it with wee, and it has been sicked on as well So maybe I am a mean mum, but while my dogs have the run of the rest of the house, they are not allowed in my bedroom.
  20. I tried to report a backyard breeder in NSW a few years ago who was selling great dane cross pups at 5 weeks old - 'ready to go'. At that time there was no actual law preventing people from selling pups at that age, so there was nothing that could be done. As far as I know the law hasn't changed.
  21. OMG for real?? I never knew so many Borzois were here!!!! I wanna pat them all!!!!!! most of these belong to Alyosha, she has a litter on the ground at the moment, and I got to pat them all the other weekend :D There are photos of them in the sighthound thread
  22. Why not call her Spirit? I really like Ruby, Scarlett or Rosie eta she is such a little cutie, lucky you
