  1. Hi everyone, sorry for the late reply. I had surgery yesterday and have been a bit wiped out. hubby took him in to the vet today and he has a wound infection. Poor love. They still took the stitches out but he’s on antibiotics now. Fingers crossed that resolves things
  2. I have a question. I had 3 year old Chase desexed last Monday. For the first 2 days after the surgery he was fine. A bit groggy but eating and drinking well. I have had him crated at all times with his cone on, unless he has been on lead for toileting and little leg stretch walks to the mailbox (we have a very long driveway). On the third day he stopped drinking water entirely, was clearly nauseous and vomited once. I took him back to the vet on the 4th day because he still refused water, if I tricked him with some watered down chicken stock, he would burp and it would all come back up. the vet checked him out, gave him an anti nausea injection and got me to switch to chicken and rice (I made this super watery to ensure he was getting some liquid). Finally yesterday (day 8) he started drinking water again but most times after he drinks he regurgitates it back up, it’s not like he’s vomiting, there’s no retching, it just comes up with a burp or not even a burp. otherwise he seems fine, driving me crazy and wanting to run and jump and enjoy life. i have a big operation myself tomorrow and I can’t get him back to the vet (hubby is taking him Thursday morning for his stitches to come out). im just not sure what could be causing this. The vet thought he could’ve picked up a stomach bug at the vet, they’ve had some gastro type bugs around but his stools are normal and he’s loving his food. seems almost like something wrong in his throat??? any ideas?
  3. Hi everyone, it’s been such a long time since I visited the forum. Last time I posted Chase was still a baby and now he’s 3! just when we were starting to win some points in conformation, and Chase got his first “best in group” I was diagnosed with breast cancer. At 45, I had to have a long 16 rounds of chemo and a double mastectomy. I stopped showing Chase and was too sick to do much with him. He’s become a backyard dog. I’m just getting to a point where he is getting semi regular walks again. We have decided we are not going back to showing and he is booked to be desexed next Monday. Main reason is that his urine smells hideous, just awful. So I’m hoping someone can tell me that after desexing, the urine won’t smell so hideous. he’s grown into such a sweet handsome boy. I’m looking forward to spending time with him again. It’s been super hard and more than once I have seriously considered rehoming him.
  4. That’s what I keep saying, he’s such a teenager right now!!
  5. Just before this photo he had tripped me over and injured me and while I lay moaning on the floor, he licked all over my face trying to make me better.
  6. Instead of goofy for once! 7 months old now
  7. It is wonderful. I still miss Kane, he was so special but I feel so lucky to have Chase and to be able to watch him grow. He’s lovely
  8. Here he is in action at his last show
  9. Oooh thank you. I’m at a show in a fortnight, I’ll have a look. Until then Chase has some towels in his crate.
  10. This was encased in a very heavy nylon type woven cover. I’m really surprised he got through it. That’s what I get when I don’t let him get adequate stimulation through the day. Thursday and Friday were busy days and HOT so he didn’t get a walk. ee have just complete a BIG walk this morning, that should keep him calmer.
  11. My darling Chase has been such a good boy. I have marvelled at how he doesn’t rip soft toys apart. He has the same very soft toys since he was a small pup and he gently squeaks them and tosses them about but he never rips them apart, even though he easily could. He sleeps in his crate at night on a foam mat, it is encased in a kind of plastic woven cover. He also has a towel in there and a little stuffed froggy. This morning he woke me up early, barking to be let out. I went in and saw foam everywhere and thought he had killed his frog, but no, he had chewed a hole in the side of the bed mat (which would’ve been hard to get through) and pulled bits of foam out of the inside. now that hes Discovered the fun of that, I don’t want to leave that mat in there but want him to be comfortable. any suggestions on what to give him to sleep on? Little bugger was barking because he had a dry mouth from pulling foam out and needed a drink.

  13. Nope no points. I was a bit slack with the training in the lead up and he was a bit over excited and kangarood !! There’s always next time. In a few weeks!
  14. He amazes me at each show. He isn’t perfect but he has the perfect nature and temperament for shows. Mostly calm but so sweet and loving. I always leave the ring feeling proud as punch!
  15. Hi everyone, I have been blissfully enjoying my healthy dogs and haven’t popped in for a while. Chase is growing like crazy and Scout is doing great. we have another show to go to next Monday, his first where he is old enough to earn points! He just turned six months. here’s a couple of pics
  16. No actually, he did sit while the judge was looking at his bite and he wildly wagged his tail the whole time she went over him but he behaved very nicely. He loves it so much, I’m so proud of how well he takes everything in his stride. So much love
  17. Thanks guys, we used hot dog in the ring. My little boy did super well. We got a baby puppy of breed and even though we didn’t win group we did very well and his focus on me improved so much. We haven’t been ’show training’ much, mostly working on focus and engagement. Keeping him interested in me. He is such a great boy, his temperament is amazing and he loves the show ring.
  18. It is because he is still doing well! I just need to work hard to drag his attention away from food in the ground.
  19. Yes I understand, at 4.5 months it’s all just practice to help him to focus even with distraction. He’s great at home and at the local oval when we practice but in the ring when he’s a tired baby, sometimes the only tool that’s gonna win is the food. Hopefully with maturity and work he becomes more engaged in me in that environment too!
  20. Hi everyone, at our most recent show Chase was very unfocused on me and very focussed on picking up dropped treats from the ground of the ring. I realise I need higher value, irresistible treats, so I would love suggestions for some delicious treats for use only in the ring?
  21. What else is there to do on this very hot day? also my Son came to visit with his new puppy Winston, he is just adorable
  22. Here’s a picture of my two babies together instead!
  23. When he was just a baby, before he came home with us and before we even knew he would be our puppy, we referred to him as “eyebrow”. It’s very cute isn’t it!
  24. I tried to upload a few pics from in the ring but I can’t get the photos small enough
