  1. We push our trolleys with dogs in them on the way home, but use the drop-off area when we arrive. The underpass can be hairy, but overall it is a pleasant, easy walk, even with a 4 berth trolley filled with dogs and piled to double it's height with gear.
  2. Melbourne Royal has the BEST drop-off and parking arrangements of any Royal I have been to (Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne). If you had read your exhibitor handbook Andisa, you would have known when the gates opened for parking and for drop-off. There is even a map of how to get between the two. At that early hour, you could probably have gotten street parking too. Arriving at 6am is perhaps overkill for a show that doesn't start until 10am. Parking opens at 7.30, which is 2.5 hrs before judging starts, so should be plenty of time. Melbourne Royal also has BY FAR the best exhibitor information booklet, and all the information you need is usually in it. Royals are a test of metal at the best of times, and some like to really put exhibitors to the test! (hellooooo Brisbane ) so next time, be patient and understand that a Royal is a big event, and they have many different exhibitors and the public to cater for. Tis a bit dramatic to go home rather than wait for the carpark to open! So, to those who have not yet attended this year, dont worry - car parking is great, attendants at drop-off and parking are helpful and patient. Trailer parking is drive-in, drive-out (no reversing), but you will need to reverse in the drop-off area. The drop off area is big and well managed, and right next to the entrance gate. Dedicated path take you from the parking area back to the showgrounds, and there are donut vans on the way  . Even when we arrived late one year, we easily got a park. Gail
  3. congratulations Paptacular!! It is especially sweet to get a title in style with a good BOB
  4. Melbourne and Sydney Royals use this method (drop off zone) and it works well. Yes you do need a helper to take advantage of the system, but once you know this, you just need to co-ordinate with someone else showing on the sane day. If I am on my own, I arrange to ring people already there when I arrive, to come out and stand with my gear ( or wheel it in for me) while I park. I find having a drop-off zone is MUCH less stressful than navigating the road at brissy.
  5. A new distributer for Black Hawk dog food handed out samples at the last ACT shows. I would like to order some, but of course have lost the flyer that came with the food (note for advertisers, always attached the ordering details to the sample LOL). Does anyone know who this person is and how I can contact her? Thanks Gail
  6. thanks Sway! I looked at Wayrod's site but didn't see them . $5 is MUCH cheaper than the $90 I paid to get a new crate! (anyone want an unused PP40 going cheap? LOL)
  7. I never came across any rude officials at all, there was a couple that had to really push the point that the exhibitor needed to be ready NOW, but it was only necessary. The breakng in the middle of the breed comes down to a they have a schedule to stick to as to when lunch is, so they have to stick to it. The crowds well that cant be controlled but can be viewed upon by saying take it as a positive, that the general Joe Public is nterested in purebreds not cross bred "oodles" or similar. Lots of people have had their BOB photos taken? I entered Ekka but didn't show as my Puppy bitch has just come out of season, so I've had a couple of relaxing days just observing from the grandstands I have been really surprised by the poor entries in some breeds though. Hi Miss B On Havanese day I asked about getting BOB photos but the photographer didn't seem in a good mood and he said he was going home early and had run out of battery power anyway. He also spent AGES on each dog, so I would not have got in anyway (up to 20 mins per dog). I know he did quite a few private sittings though, and his signs clearly state that he is available for private sittings during the EKKA. Maybe the photographers need to be asked to prioritise BOB photos over private sittings? WHY? The photographer is there as basically a favour to exhibitors. He doesnt get paid by the RNA or DQ to be there. He has to take time off of his paid job to be at the ekka for all 10 days and this year parking will cost him $250. So basically any photos he takes that he can sell is what s going to cover costs for him. Because they are supposed to be there to take BOB and group and GS win photos. Otherwise they would be paying a huge fee for a commercial site at the EKKA. ETA if they are not going to take the BOB photos, and it is such a 'hardship', why are they there at all?
  8. Does anyone know where I can get drip trays for the PP crates? I discovered 24 hrs before flying to Brisbane that drip trays are compulsory in crates, so had to buy a whole new crate to get one and luckily was able to borrow another. I'm after drip trays for PP20, PP30 and PP40 and dont want to have to replace the crates to get one. ps the AAE staff didnt check to see if they were in the crates, but if I hadnt got them, I am sure they would have checked LOL
  9. Thanks PF. He's not a Deshonko, but he's still a good un'
  10. Congratulations Shantiah and Kelpies Rule!! And well done Smisch on nearly placing, and on suprising the announcer LOL Shantiah, we will have to compare notes to see who got told off the most LOL.

  12. I thought I would start a brag and comment thread about the EKKA. My brag is getting Best Of Breed Havanese :D. This is Magic's (Ch Cubet Abracadabra) second Royal BOB this year, and third overall. He was BOB Hav at Sydney Royal this year, and Meb Royal 2 years ago. Tiger (Cubet Tiger Lil) suprised us all by winning her class and being considered for BCC. Buzzy Bee (Cubana's Barbados Buzz) won his class of one . Aislinn (Cubet Visionary) made me proud in baby class by (1) walking in the ring (2) having her tail at least somewhat up! Magic's daughter (not owned by me) won baby puppy of breed, so I had a very lucky day. There were plenty of downsides to the day - it was a Brisbane Royal that tested even seasoned EKKA exhibitors. So if you are yet to show, be prepared for rude officials*, terrible organisation*, breeds breaking in the middle of judging, no BOB photos and crowds like I have not seen before at the EKKA. We got told off so many times I have lost count (and we are both quiet, considerate exhibitors I think). So .... who else will be at General Specials day? * there were some lovely officials and not all the organisation was terrible of course . One huge plus was the plush puppy grooming area.
  13. It was only crappy for toys, it was great for us LOL.. Rain only falls on the Toy ring?
  14. Thanks sway. I was trying 'bijou' Btw it was crappy weather on sunday, so I got to wear my new whelping supplies jacket all day
  15. Does anyone know the name of the photographer at Wagga on the weekend? I thought I knew but google has not thrown up anything helpful.
  16. No best opposite in last two years
  17. I have had RUBOB at Brisbane Royal and was not told anything about going back. I thought Brissy did group 1-4, where the RUBOB winners dont get to go back into the ring (like Melbourne and Sydney)
  18. I HATE getting things stolen at shows - it feels like such a betrayal (more so than if something got stolen in public area). My third ever show, and someone took the lovely show lead I had bought for my puppy . My BF in his innocence had hung the lead off the front of the gazebo, and 10 mins later it was gone. I also had a bag of just purchased products stolen ($200 worth) at the Dogs NSW xmas show in 2009 from out of the back of my walled gazebo. As we didn't leave the gazebo, I am fairly sure the people in the gazebo next to mine must have taken it from under the wall(unless the invisible man walked in), but what can you do?? I later learned that the people I had the bad luck to set up next to were suspected of other thefts during the year sorry that you lost your pen Andisa, but I am thankful that it wasn't an expensive one!
