  1. I will be there, and seeing this post have just decided to set up at the hound ring
  2. Yep and he only chewed his bedding once!!! He's a real character Sway - seriously cute and lots of spunk! In other words, a feral Sh*#!!!! LOL!! great work guys!! I wouldn't call him a shit but he does have moments of feral, particularly for his final go yesterday afternoon!!! Couldn't help but laugh at him! He got loads of compliments all day and Clare was approached a couple of times whilst in our gazebo and told that how great he was. I was amazed that something so small could eat something so big (a couch)!. He was a cutie for sure, and a lovely looking Cairn. Ihad a lovely time catching up with DOLers Trisven, BB and BBJ, and wanted to meet Rebanne, but had a headache on Sunday and tried not to move too much. I came home with two challenges, one BOB and one RUBOB so a good weekend (even though i entered my dog in the wrong class on Sunday :0) Gail
  3. Oh my gawd - Sid is soooooooo cute! And Lola looks like all her christmases have come at once! (can I ask what happened to harry? He was my favourite 'unusual' DOL dog)
  4. If the dog has been judged in the wrong class, it is immediately disqualified for that reason. If you realise before the class is judged and leave the ring, you would still be eligible to be judged in the correct class. ETA: 14.3 A dog shall be disqualified from winning a prize at a Show held under the Regulations if a Show Committee is satisfied that:- (i) any dye, colouring, whitening or darkening matter, or preparation, has been used and if the effect of it remains at any time during the Show; (ii) any oil, grease, sticky or glossy substances have been used and if the effect of it remains on the coat of the dog at any time during the Show; (iii) the lining membranes of the mouth have been cut, pierced or mutilated in any way; (iv) the dog has been led into the Ring or exhibited by a person who has been debarred or suspended by Dogs NSW under the Regulations. (v) the dog has been entered after the closing date for entries; (vi) the dog was for any reason ineligible to compete in the relative class or event. This from the show regulations on the Dogs NSW website http://www.dogsnsw.org.au/images/stories/P...art_02_Show.pdf Thanks Jo I am horrified by "the lining membranes of the mouth have been cut, pierced or mutilated in any way;" what on earth is this referring to?
  5. I have also heard in the past that a dog should not be penalised for a mistake by the show or steward (for example, if your entry is accepted but not put into the catalogue, you can compete anyway. Or if the cataloguer mistakenly puts a dog into the wrong class, the dog can still compete in its correct class). If this is correct, I could have argued that it was a steward mistake (as she didnt state which class was being judged). Re classes not being allowed to be rejudged, I though they were allowed to be rejudged if the steward/judge etc had made a mistake. I have certainly seen classes rejudged, even when there was no mistake made but the exhibitors agreed on it. For example if a dog has been put into the wrong class by the cataloguer, the class would have to be rejudged once the mistake was rectified. Also if a judge awards reserve without waiting for the no 2 class winner to come back in I have seen the challenge rejudged. I have twice been refused entry to the ring by a steward who had their result sheet wrong. One time I asked for a class in group to be rejudged and the steward denied my request, but I have always thought that if I pushed it would have to be rejudged. (the steward would not allow me in the ring because she had a different number on her result sheet, which was incorrect) Anyway, I am taking my own thread off topic here :D . I am still not nearly conviced that the 'beaten dog' rule applies in the case I have mentioned.
  6. Yes, except it was class in group (not breed judging) and the class the dog should have been in had not yet been judged, so could have entered the correct class without any rejudging (and I have seen this happen several times)
  7. Except you dont compete against your own breed in classes for group, so in this scenario, the dog is not beating the junior cavalier, it is beating the junior dogs of other breeds. Every class in breed winner who did not get BOB is a beaten dog, so if this is how the rule was applied, no dogs except BOB winner could go in for class in group! A more similar situation is BIG. Even though a Junior BOB winner might be beaten for BIG and Best Open in Group (say) they are still allowed to compete in Best Junior in Group.
  8. I doubt it was 'someones dog' as the article claims the pound will rehome it! (if they seized it from owners it would be returned to them) I find it odd that they claim the dog is not the one they wanted due to loss of weight and friendly behaviour. After x months in the pound it is very likely the dog woudl be thinner, and given that he lived as a loved family pet, the fact he is friendly makes sense. The person (vet?) who claims that the original dog was 'always on guard' sounds like an idiot. Did he/she see the dog more than once? (after escaping, biting, being seized etc the dog would very likely be stressed) PF: The articles dont say that a finger was severed (re the comment about using Molars), and it also said that the man who lost a finger had hold of the dogs collar and was pulling him (NOT the collar of the female dog) so defense is surely a reasonable explanation of what happened in the case of this man. I've been snapped at by scared, stressed dogs during my time in rescue - this doesn't necessarily make them agressive or unsuitable to be in society. Sometimes the snap made contact, sometimes it didnt. Whether the bite was repeated is more of an indication of agression than the consequences of a single snap (I dont know which it was in this case though) I have lashed out with an arm when suprised in the dark. This doesn't make me agressive. If I had continued by beating the person up it would be a different story though. The same is true of dogs ;)
  9. Not so sure about that - when I was nursing we had multiple birds. rodents, wildlife come back to life after inj to heart and vet declaring them gone and more than enough of the green dream was supposedly adminstered. Can't explain everything. Thank god it was never a dog or cat - don't think I could have dealt with that, but then all dogs and cats were put in the freezer until they were picked up to be cremated - the birds etc weren't. OMG so some of the dogs and cats could have woken up, then gone on to freeze to death :D
  10. A five figure sum for mange treatment :D Glad the pup is well now, but I can understand why the owners didnt seek treatment costing between 10,000 and 99,000 pounds!!!!
  11. time to fess up - it was me :D Steward didnt announce the class - just started calling breeds. I didn't hear numbers but I was tired so may have missed them. I was the only Havanese exhibitor waiting, and the steward called Havanese and looked at me, so in I went! Turns out it was puppy, not junior as I was waiting for (but steward didnt call out 'puppy' before calling in the dogs - I knew I was waiting for junior LOL) The steward then wouldn't let me into the correct class as I was a 'beaten dog', which I disagree with (all the dogs going in for junior are beaten dogs!). I've seen plenty of people run out of the wrong class and be allowed back into the right one. At the end of a tiring weekend of shows, mistakes happen. It's just than when I make them, the consequences seem to be more severe ;) I want to find out what the rules are, in case I ever make the same mistake again. EFS
  12. I have a question for those that know the ANKC/NSW rules better than I do ..... If a dog goes into the ring for the wrong class in group (say they are puppy and go in for minor) is there any rule to stop them entering the ring for the correct class? I have seen exhibitors both allowed (many times) and blocked (once) from going back in, so there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule on this, or not one that is followed religiously. (please please dont anyone post that the dog cant go back in because it is a 'beaten dog' :D . Every dog that goes in for class in group is a beaten dog! (beaten by BIG winner) so I dont think this is a relevant rule here).
  13. Thankyou to the hard-working Royal Canberra Show volunteers for getting the results out so quickly Thanks also to stewards, organisers, and all other volunteers at the Royal - another fantastic show this year!!!!!
  14. There are some errors in the official results! Those I saw are below an din next post: (bolded)
  15. Good luck! She wasn't attacked at a show was she?
  16. Shelties are on not before 1.30 pm Sat. So you may be able to get away with just the one trip.
  17. no you're not ..LOL .... I got mine today. Mine arrived today too (it wasn't a conspiracy after all ) 14 Havanese entered Does anyone know which classes in breed and group are being judged. The schedule doesn't say, so I am assuming it is like a 'normal' show where 3,4,5,10 and 11 will be judged in breed, group and show? Plus BOB and RUBOB, and BIG and RUBIG (rather than group 1,2,3 & 4) The instructions say that (for toys, terriers and hounds) " ... Breed and Class in Breed winners from the previous days judging are required to attend [on Sun 27]". So I assume POB, JOB, IOB, ABOB, OOB, BOB and RUBOB all have to come back?? (this will be the whole entry for some breeds LOL). I thought last year they only judged puppy in group, BIG and RUBIG. Gail
  18. Nope me don't have number yet either They must be sending the numbers for special people this coming week It was good to see you again yesterday Elkie1
  19. I think I am the only person in the world who didn't get Canberra Royal numbers last week! ;)
  20. I would LOVE to take one of my dogs to work with me. I have yet to find a job that will allow it though - sigh
  21. Yes I'll be there singing showdog, but only if I win of course, if I lose I'll storm out of the ring, rubbish the winning dogs, accuse the winning handler of sleeping with the judge and then slink off home to wash the dye out of my dogs We recently had an exhibitor who must have gone to the same school Miranda . After her dog got reserve challenge, she stormed out of the ring, pulled all her bitches out and loudly proclaimed that the winning exhibitor MUST be sleeping with the Judge. It was rather funny except for the fact that the winning exhibitor is an elderly lady in her 70's who has been married for over 50 years and the judge is also an elderly lady in her 70's that has been married for many many years. It does however highlight the fact that some exhibitors really do take winning just a bit too seriously.... You are telling tales on me Havasneeze Seriously though, was this in the NS or Toy ring??
  22. That gives me a whole new perspective on the world at large ! CC Yep - I was physically assaulted TWICE during club chess tournaments (not badly - just kicking) but this was so OTT, and the clubs just shrugged it off (all men, who probably felt like doing the same thing to me when I beat them LOL)
