  1. So do I Mr Katdogs is pretty amazing too, even if he is a sook. A big sook tell him to walk it off, he'll be fine. hehe. Only joking. Mr Katdogs is very cool and truly deserves a mention among his fellow long suffering supportive spouses.
  2. Silly question but how would they know every 'unreputable' unless someone with the poops emails to complain? In which case, everyone will be gradually be removed until all that's left is crickets chirping....
  3. All under control Boronia, I'm not holding my breath but with 2 dogs going in for major surgery soon I won't be taking anyone direct from the pound (to be on the safe side) - so there's still a spot for them if needed. Ams will follow up.
  4. :D ta Ams! You have a missed call on your mobe. I didn't leave a message. xxx
  5. I can help if it looks like local ethical options are exhausted, I just need someone up there to assist xxxx
  6. Oh dear. I wish they weren't so far away. Maybe PM Varicool? Just in case she has a spot. We've had a lesson this week about what happens to beautiful undesexed female yorkie types who end up in the wrong hands. Those girls need to be desexed before going anywhere.
  7. I've started the Blackmores PAW range of osteosupport on an oldie with stiff hind legs and saw a difference. Now planning to start my own three legged boy on the same - he's fine but like you I worry about the increased wear and tear on his other joints.
  8. I'm afraid I prefer mature dog adopters meeting their dog in person. But everyone does things differently and quite successfully. Not saying that this adult couldn't be perfect for you, just take care to iron out the crinkles like, trial periods, how to do a proper intro with your dog and who pays for boarding (if needed) and return freight if it doesn't work out. The finer points of returning a dog can be a real headache if the question isn't asked beforehand. It's probably a good question to ask the puppy breeders as well: a 'just in case' scenario. Good luck. &Brownie points for asking for feedback.
  9. hehe after doing a search on two (correctly spelled) phrases, they both show up on other people's websites. The rather exotic breed list is a cut and paste from here: link "Adidi , Akbash, Anatolian Shepherd, Castro Laboreiro, Cuacasian Ovtcharka, Estrela Mountain, Great Pyrenees, Kangal, Komondor, Kuvasz, Maremma Sheepdog, Middle Asian Ovtcharka, Perrp de Pastor Mallorquin, Polish Tatra Sheepdog, Pyrenean Mastiff, Sarplaninac, South Russian Ovtcharka, Tibetan Kyi-Apso, Tibetan Mastiff, Tornjak" The touch insensitivity stuff takes you directly to this page link "One of the traits that was selectively bred for in the pit bull in order to make this dog breed into a more efficient fighter is what is known as touch insensitivity. This trait of touch insensitivity is common to dogs bred for fighting so that despite being severely wounded they would continue fighting. A dog high in this trait would be pretty much impervious to a might yank on its chain which goes a long way in explaining why it is so difficult to call off and disengage a pit bull engaged in an attack" And then I stopped looking. My brain hurts.
  10. Where do u buy that? A few niche suppliers like this one. There is industrial grade not suitable for humans or pets so you just need to make sure it's the right one.
  11. I'm so sorry. Ticks are horrid little things. One of my fears. All the chemicals we buy and they aren't even killing fleas anymore. Food grade diatomaceous earth won't hurt either way. It sticks to and kills invertebrates like ticks and fleas, using the right grade is apparently harmless to us and pets. That will probably be my backup this flea and tick season.
  12. If you mean facebook, I really don't know. It's quick and easy to hit the 'share' button - regardless of motive (and I'm certain some do it out of horror). The worst one I saw was a rape victim ... a dog, it was horrific. I can't un-see those images and didn't share them no matter how much I wished for the situation to change. Sometimes it's just too much and puts off more people that it enlists to the cause.
  13. A wee blob of liverwurst. or if you can't find that, Pecks Paste.
  14. The commitment needs to come from govt first. Instead of putting in road blocks to pet ownership: more education and support so that people make the right choice of dog to start with. More funding for responsible pet ownership issues like chipping days, well publicised and promoted subsidised desexing for those who seek it, free regular puppy classes, funding for school based pet programs.... I have a whole wish list. But licensing to own a dog: technically there is already a system in place which as RSG has pointed out, relies on people complying. Limiting registered breeders unfairly penalises those who are the most obvious by simple fact that they are traceable and accountable to a regulatory body already. There would be zero impact on BYB or oodle farms.
  15. You can just 'sear' the meaty parts in a hot pan. The bone and most of the meat will remain raw but sometimes just changing the smell/texture can be enough to kick start a fussy chewer.
  16. Too skinny. More calories (aka puppy food), more protein, less filler. Plenty of good advice here and stacks on the internet. I'm confused by the stuff about his ribs and build stopping him digesting - who told you that?? It makes no sense unless I'm being specially dense. He looks like a standard underweight dog to me. Yes you do get dogs who fail to gain weight and you may well own one with a metabolic or food sensitivity issue but that needs veterinary help not advice from a forum.
  17. Rest in Peace Bazzy. Join the terriers over the bridge. Run, chase and play. Dear Lyn, all my love.
  18. Move. Even if he relents, don't bring a dog into a home where it's not wanted. The minute it does something doggy the grief won't be worth it.
  19. Not enough information. So all I can say is don't believe everything Google tells you.
  20. I'm seeing some German Spitz as well. Whatever the mix is he's very pretty.
  21. Basically, "a team of scientists" are developing a pill which would sterilise stray animals (initially in developing countries I gather). Something to do with Peta. Bit thin on info about how this pill would be researched and used. And I can't find much more. Medical people: Does anything close to this exist already or is it even possible? Wouldn't it have to conflict with the anti animal testing stuff? I respect that by everyone has an individual opinion on Peta. However, this is more just trying to understand a how this offshoot(?) org would achieve their goal on a practical level. Don't look at the site if you're uncomfortable with images of cruelty. 600million.org 'Goals' page If there's another thread and I missed it can someone post a link please.

    Rip Atlas

I'm so sorry Fran, they were such beautiful babies and you worked so hard for them and their mum. Losing one so young is so unfair. RIP Atlas
