Who would have thought it would be so difficult to get someone to help! LOL!
I have a Melbourne Dog Centre Hydrobath. Currently tripping power every time I plug it in. It does not need water in the tank for this to happen.I have called an Electrician, they have said it is likely a plumber issue as I haven't used it for 4wks now and it still shorts the power. Any water in the power cord should be dried out.
I have called a couple of plumbers, they don't want to come out to look at it
I have called Melbourne Dog Centre but haven't been able to speak to anyone yet (just left messages). I also know from past experience, I need to get it TO them which is the difficult part.
Anyone have any recommendation for S.E. Melbourne to come out and fix the bath for me?! It's amazing how much you rely on it!!
TIA!

I'm so sorry Bubitty.
Love to you all and your family. Bubby was the bestest dog <3

Aww, a few days too late! I just ordered some more harnesses from Indi-dog. It is insanely hard to find good quality, ergonomic harnesses. Indi-dog will custom make them and put a handle on for me, and it works out a little cheaper in the end, but the Lori Stevens Balance Harness and Haqihana harnesses were literally the only other harnesses that were on my list after scouring the internet for weeks. Erik strongly disliked his Alpine Outfitters flyball harness, so I am avoiding anything with fleece on it. Plus, fleece gets wet and stays that way for a while. It's good to know there is another supplier in Oz I can point clients to for a simple, comfortable, front-attach harness.
All good info Corvus. Will have to look at some of these harnesses too. After using the Lori Stevens balance harness on my pup I'm a convert. I agree about the fleece harness, but if we are somewhere with water, my kids won't wear their harnesses for that reason. I love them for every other type of walking though

As you'd know there aren't many stockists of non-restrictive front-attach harnesses in Australia nor harnesses that fit unconventionally-shaped doggy bodies. We love our Perfect Fit; it's the only harness I could find that fit my Chi x without getting something custom made.
Just a note: your online shop doesn't come up in searches for AU stockists of the Perfect Fit harness (and possibly the others too) and a password is needed to access it. I think this may be a barrier to potential customers thinking about making a purchase. You may like to optimise your site for search engines and, if you don't want your store readily accessible, perhaps have a page showing what's available.
Hi PK - thanks for pointing that out and yes, that is intentional. Mainly because I only order a small amount and as I'm slowly growing my business I am trying not to have an 'online store' just yet - I don't want to be delayed or overwhelmed with orders coming through and be unable to stay ontop of it. For that reason, I do a pre-order system, or allow people to get in touch with me via phone and email and as my business grows and develops, I will develop my online store to a little more detail. . Please don't hesitate to get others in contact with me, but at this stage I will only take orders via word of mouth

definitely interested in the balance harness (not to be confused with the Blackdog one!)... and thank you Corvus for raising a very good point about the fleece.
I have used quite a few harnesses in my years of dog training and these two (Sally Hopkins and Lori Stevens) remain my firm favourites!

Hi All,
Just letting you all know that I'm super excited to now be stocking the Lori Stevens Balance Harness in Australia - can be found here:
https://www.blue-9.com/pages/balance-harness/
I have been searching around for a while for a harness that doesn't restrict movement, has an appropriate front attachment, but is also extremely adjustable to fit all body shapes and sizes.
I will only be keeping a small amount in stock, so working on a pre-order system.
Price will be $50 (postage around Australia is extra)
If you are interested - please contact me on [email protected]
Here is a recent review on harnesses. I also stock the Sally Hopkins Fleece harness and perfect fit harness

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Allerzeit - if you want - feel free to PM me or email me and we can discuss further at length how I can help your friend/ family member :).
Can also back up the recommendations of those that I know that have already been recommended on here - Cosmolo, Kaye, and of course Kate Mornement :).

Hi Leo, thanks for the info.
You might have missed my update.. I did buy the ruffwear front range harnesses, and so far we love them!
awesome! I love them too!

Have you run with your dog yet? You may find, as I did, that pulling stops being an issue.
In any case, the following harnesses may be suitable if you're looking for a front attachment point:
Ruffwear Front Range
Perfect Fit Harness
Alpine Outfitters Urban Trail Harness
Lori Stevens Balance Harness (not the Black Dog one)
I'm pretty sure that the Sensible Harness restricts proper movement.
I would go canicross gear - a waist belt and a bungee line - rather than a front attach harness, and just embrace the pulling for now. Weird gaits are how runners get injured. I would assume the same for dogs, so if the equipment changes the way the dog would normally move, then I'd be worried they are heading for injury.
Excellent point. :)
This reminds me animallover, that you may find that your boy pulls less in a harness than he does in a collar, even without it being a 'no pull' one. It goes completely against what everyone says about harnesses but it works that way with my anxious dog. He is a strange little creature though so your mileage may vary.
HI AL
Not sure if you have purchased your harnesses yet or not, but a front attached harness is definitely not designed for jogging and will adjust their natural gait and may cause injuries down the track.
I agree with these recommended here although I'm also quite interested in the Hurtta Y harness (version 2, I didn't like V 1 at all). I like where this sits to allow full range of motion and V2 seems to not be so high up on the shoulder blades.
I use the original fleece lined harness and this seems to work really well for my dogs, but unless you can try one, I find their sizing can be a little 'off'. My girls measured a 5 (Aussie Shepherds), but in reality they were a size 4. I wish I could adjust the front section, which you can with the 'perfect' fit.
The one that wins out for me for jogging with my dog is the ruff wear front range. So cosy for the dogs and I really love the fit of them :)

This is the official petition link by MP Neale Burgess to stop the bill. Please share this far and wide across Victoria. We need as many voters as possible to use this petition by next week to allow it to be tabled in Parliament. This does not choose what should then be done but asks Parliament to stop the current bill and get a working committee together to work on a better proposed model, this has not been done to date. If we are granted that working committee then the people get to have their say. Please also note that no online petition or activity has to be raised in Parliament. If you print and sign this petition, returning directly to Minister Neale Burgess then your vote will be tabled in Parliament next Tuesday through to Thursday (potentially longer but ideally by next week) and it will make your opinion count.

what we actually need MOST are trained professionals - Trainers, Behaviourists, Vets, Nurses..... anyone who believes that our dogs should continue to be raised in the family home.

Hi All,
I am sure this has been mentioned recently but I can't seem to find the thread - please feel free to direct me to it!
Now that Dr Rawlinson has retired, I have a 2yo dog that needs his hips and elbows tested but unsure where to send it. Would appreciate some suggestions please :)
Thanks,
Did you end up getting them done yet, and who did you use?
Not yet, but am thinking of using Richardson :)

Thanks guys - like here I have heard some very positive feedback. I'm currently giving my girls Rose Hip Vital - would you give both or is that over-kill?
Cheers,
A
ETA - the price here is quite reasonable: http://www.thevetshed.com.au/?rf=kw&kw=4cyte

This is a fairly new product on the market which is getting some good reviews. Has anyone used it and how does it compare to similar supplements?

I have the DVDs in both hard copy and on demand.
I have imported the exercise booklets for my puppy people and also have the latest released DVD sets. I got up at 2am to join the seminars during the making of these recent videos. Really fantastic, so informative.
Brilliant is all I can say. Thrilled I cam across Puppy Culture when I did. I have a litter due and will be raising in accordance with the Puppy culture protocols.
My puppy people are ordering the PC First 12 Weeks" DVDs as a prerequisite to getting a puppy.
I can highly recommend joining the fb Puppy Culture Discussion Group. Loads of wonderful information and discussion related to PC topics.
What she said .
I have now raised 3 litters under the "PC" program, or parts of it and if I wasn't convinced before then, I certainly am now!
LP - compared to what I did with my litter, how much more would I get out of PC?
Good question!
Well as you know I've always done *elements* of PC in ALL of my litters, but I have found that you can actually 'focus' your social and developmental phases based on what is most important for that week. I too was dubious about the level of difference and/ or improvements, but the results speak for themselves. I've certainly found a difference from litters that 'genetically 'are very, very similar. More confidence, more focus, more social interaction (but it doesn't detract away from working).
I have found that it is also something that puppy owners can connect to, see WHY we do what we do, read up about it and like Ian Dunbar's books of days gone by, help them screen their breeders better.
A lot of what is in there is what we do naturally - but I love the problem solving skills and other things in there. I'd highly recommend just watching it - I'd be surprised if you don't at least pick up 1-2 new 'games' from it... even if you don't follow it to a T (which I don't, but I try to do the weekly milestones).

I may be in a similar boat to you. Missed the first mating for a similar reason and poor timing, now waiting for season 2 and attempting again. Not sure what I will do yet if she doesn't take.
I think the 2nd mating for you there are a variety of factors that could have impacted including the medications and the stress of the travel - though like you were recommended, I think it was worth a 'shot' under medical advice.
My plan with my 2nd mating when it happens is similar to yours - The bitch is one I bred on terms so she will come back to live with me when her season starts and the boy is my own. The mother of the bitch is due in season shortly so I will be collecting the boy and doing a semen test just to make sure - though expect him to pass that with flying colours.
On first Proj I'm going to get the bitch checked again for strictures etc and ensure a natural is ok. Have back up for an AI if required. I will be checking her Prog levels daily as she shot up really quickly, hence the 'missed' mating the first time. Upon further research I found that I should have given the AI's a go anyway as the speed she shot up we still would have got puppies even though her prog levels were high. So this time, we will still AI if she is around the 65-70nmol.
Good luck! I personally would try a 3rd time and then review after that.

Thanks rappie- will do once I'm home and easier to write than on the phone :)

Hi all- have been asked to post here too.
I'm looking for some recommendations for some vets in Glenhaven, NSW please. Potential for specialist or neuro experience and knowledge.
I have a puppy in NSW that needs a regular vet but also is demonstrating what we think is idiopathic head tremors.
Any recommendations would be welcomed.
Thanks!

Sorry TSD- it's in the subject line- Glenhaven, NSW

I'm struggling to find anyone in vic / Mel that does it at a reasonable fee and I'm told they have to still send the parvo results overseas....
I can send you a copy of my boy's results from Vetpath in WA if you want to show your vets that they do do it!??
That would be most appreciated :)
-
I titre test mine and they haven't had any vaccinations for almost 4 years (through Vetpath in WA). Parvo is tested here, I think it is hepatitis that is done overseas.
Out of curiosity which vet do you use, how much does it cost etc etc?

That's what I'm thinking Denali.
My dogs are exposed all the time to "stuff". They are at comps most weekends, come to work with me and are pretty stoic- I would consider all bar one with high- very high immunity in general.
Test was $80 for a snap test- and I'm not trusting the result.

Hi All,
Just after some generic feedback - who has gotten their dog's titre tested, what were the results, were they sent overseas and how old was your dog when tested?
I just got my 9.5 yr old Aussie tested and surprised that the results came back saying she needed a re-vaccination - she has been vaccinated every 3 years since she was 2 I think.... So surprising for me that her immunity wasn't higher.
What has everyone else found?

Glad to hear she is starting to feel better. Haven't seen you for ages Jules but sorry to hear that Amber hasn't been well
K9 BRIDLE - What do you think?
in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports

With regards to putting it on - how about make a Y with the bridle, pull the nose noose up and thread your hand through (so your hand is between he nose noose and the neck piece. Give the dog a treat as you slip over your dogs head (and therefore on the muzzle). It works really nicely for myself and my clients
As for the product, I really like it, but I do find the initial period of learning how to put it on confusing for most. It is harder to condition the dog to accept it in comparison to a gentle leader but I think it is kinder on the back of the neck as opposed to under the chin. I don't think it will harm the dog unless you are jerking the dog around on it, which is not what I personally use a head halter for :).
