  1. Most issues commented on seem to stem from behavioural issues. What about bio-security concerns? Wouldn't that be a bigger risk?
  2. Qantas will accept a declaration letter (not veterinary) stating that you would accept liability if something was to occur for dogs between 8-12 weeks old, also if your flight is a transhipment flight, ie. changes aircraft, the change of aircraft must occur before 3.00pm. If there is a flight delay, you may have to have alternative arrangements.
  3. You can either organize yourself or go through pet transport company. At Adelaide pets have to go via freight buildings as they are not allowed in terminal, even if they are transporting on pet pass attached to ticket. Attached to ticket you don't require to go via pet transport company except maybe for crate hire.
  4. It is a grey area that DPI are aware of! You can advertise "forthcoming litters" or "puppies from forthcoming litters", any time without need for adding microchipping details. As Rebanne has mentioned, once you have specified a particular puppy for sale then you must state microchip number in all advertising.
  5. Two doors up from AaE and next door to Australia Post building in APAC Drive. Once the new ramp onto the freeway (city bound) is open, I believe around June/July, that should make it easier. To get to the new address just get off the Tullamarine Freeway at the first exit past Mickleham Road (Business Park), turn right at roundabout-then left at Traffic lights (APAC Drive), about 200 metres a roundabout and you are there. It will also mean you will miss the traffic heading to the main terminal at Centre Road (where the speed and red light camera are) so should be alot easier.

  7. For dogs less than 6 months away from Australia: Minimum Quarantine stay is 30 days even if the dog only went to the USA for 2-3 weeks, allowing for allowable exemptions (period of residency) of importation requirements conditions (stipulated prior to export) and meeting conditions of export requirements whilst away and providing documentary evidence when applying for reimportation. Note: Conditions for re-entry do vary between entire dogs and non-entire dogs due to possibility of STIs. For dogs having left Australia more than 6 months ago: They must satisfy the importation residency requirements in order to be eligible to re-enter Australia. Once a dog leaves Australia it is not an automatic given that they can re-enter, they must meet the requirements as stipulated by AQIS. If you contact AQIS prior to export and maintain the stipulated requirements then dogs are normally allowed to re-enter. Documentary proof is necessary. No further reductions (less than 30 days) have been allowed for at this point in time, it may have been discussed but minimum stay in Quarantine is still 30 days as long as the dog/s concerned meet the other requirements. If they don't meet these requirements quarantine stay could be as long as 180 days. Dogs travelling internationally travel as manifested cargo, no excess baggage rates. Customs clearance can be undertaken in LAX and then transfer to domestic airlines, where allowable baggage allowance may be claimable (subject to airline). Rates for internal travel within USA are comparable with Australian rates. International airline rates normally work on set rates per (volume)kg, ie under 45 kg, 45-less than 100kg, 100kg + and so on. (Volume rates are based on dimension of crates versues actual weight and you are charge the greater). By having two dogs travelling they can be consolidated (total weights added together) on one Air Way Bill, saving you some money. Each dog will travel in their own crate. As for pricing the more that you can undertake the cheaper the overall price you should be able to achieve.
  8. If you are thinking of Apollo Gardens, 290 Hume Highway Craigieburn, I believe they have closed down. From Dogs Victoria website (for Bulla Accommodation): http://www.dogsvictoria.org.au/Portals/0/assets/aboutUs/Bulla%20Accommodation.pdf

  10. Lilli, With this size crate you may not get out via Warsaw but may need to go out via Vienna. Wayrod
  11. A link is attached for the general information about importing a dog to Vanuatu. http://www.daff.gov.au/micor/live-animals/vanuatu/dog As mentioned a provisional import permit is required, which will stipulate the protocols required to be met to allow the dog to have entry.
  12. Still in Service Road at the moment, latest info from them is the move will be in mid-late March April.
  13. You could advertise your litters in advance. Pending litters are not required to meet this requirement.
  14. Samantha, You normally require an agent in NZ to arrange and undertake your flight lodgements. Highlight that you are a passenger and are relocating to Aust. Refer MAF website. AQIS clearances and customs: Normally customs do not get involved with duties etc, if that animal/s come in with passengers (family pet); customs get involved and you may require a customs broker when there appears to be a change of ownership and they could be seen by Customs (depends on officer undertaking the checking of paperwork) as "breeding stock" (purebred and non-desexed). Also if paperwork states one name on papers in NZ and different name as receiver in Aust it highlights that the animal/s may be "breeding stock" so they take a closer look. In most cases, without needing to chase up a broker, you can collect around two hours after flight arrival, in that time AQIS have done their inspections and computer clicked them as OK to enter and then it is a matter of presenting ID and collecting you animal/s. You normally have to pay an airline fee of around $86.00 for them to release. If customs brokers need to get involved double the time!
  15. You could try either: F10 veterinary disinfectant or Viraclean hospital grade disinfectants or as mentioned good old soap and water, rinse and wipe over. As for me I would soap and water and rinse to clean majority of build up dirt and grime then use all over spray of F10 or viraclean, as I have both in supply.
  16. Banking could be undertaken the day after entries close! Or better still into an account similar to PayPal so that the club can have access to the funds almost immediately. As for size using an A5 size piece of paper would be smaller than using an A4 and then trimming down to size. No wastage. Most printers now accept A5 sheets of paper. Ideally computer generated/online entries would solve the problem of using paper at all. Paperless entries, helping to save the environment.
  17. At the end of the day the information contained on the entry forms is what should be entered. If the operator takes a shortcut and does not check their work against what has been submitted, errors will occur. Many databases use a basic format by typing in the dogs registration number, if no data exists then they type in the data as submitted from the entry form. Databases are only as good as the information that they contain. We have an ANKC Database with all the latest and correct information that is currently held for each dog registered in Australia, maybe it is time that it is used to its full potential. In the old days prior to computers entry forms were in most cases handwritten, with five dogs being able to be filled in on one form. These days I see the ability to produce more accurate entries/catalogues has been improved by technological changes and these can only be further improved as technology becomes more advanced, but at the end of the day whilst manual recordings are being undertaken and checked off there will always be the possibility of errors, the best you can do is highlight what needs to be corrected.
  18. Maybe it is time for controlling bodies to receive the show entries and payments on behalf of the affiliates, in this way it can be assured that the entries match the database, entries are received by financial members. Afterall in this day of computer technology the ability to have a program that can do all this and seperate the entries into breeds, sexes and classes is possible along with the allocation of exhibit numbers, thus saving a lot of time and frustration for show secretaries. The role of the Show Secretary will change!
  19. Certainly away from the original post but has now been raised but shouldn't entry forms now be printed in standard paper sizes? Even registration papers have gone to standardised A4 format, so why not entry forms! Using international standard paper sizes of either A4 or A5 format would allow entry forms to be completed by computer, making the information easier to read. Paper in A4/A5 is readily available over the counter in most supermarkets, Big W, Kmart and Office supplie stores. Exhibitors would be saved the frustration of trimming to the “correct size” but also show secretaries would be saved the frustration of receiving inconsistent size entry forms. Standards size entry forms would allow use of D-Ring folders to store entry forms (D-Ring are available in standard print international paper sizes of A4/A5 format). Alternatively, another vision could be for show secretaries to have computers and accept online entries or better still in an ideal world each state ANKC affiliate office could have a program developed to accept computer online entries and payments on behalf of affiliates, computer checks to ensure memberships are financial, animals are registered in the correct names, etc. State offices can also calculate the correct surcharges and levies they charge and the balance forwarded to the clubs/affiliates. Catalogues can also be produced and results can also be logged so information can be stored till eternity which would be great for club historians and point scores. Financial transactions would also be accountable and the role of show secretaries could be changed forever. Just a vision! that could open debate.
  20. Virgin have introduced new airline protocols commencing first February. Only 2 passenger animals and 4 freight animals per flight, no matter what size crate.

  22. Victoria has democracy and has a long period of adjustment. eg. in a twenty year period (since democracy) (the President is voted in office for four year terms) there has been 5 Presidents, 1 acting President, 6 CEOs plus temporary CEOs. Many of the members that lead the court challenges for democracy have voiced that in hindsight they may have been wrong in pushing for democracy. The appointed members of the KCC Committee were appointed for their business expertise in society as well as their love and passion for breeding, owning and showing dogs. Had it not been for the appointed KCC Committee in Victoria, we would not have had the multi-million dollar venue that we own. They had the foresight over thirty years ago to purchase the land and begin the development. To be an elected representative today is a popularity contest, some with no business skills taking office and now controlling your funds and assets worth millions of dollars; it is only a "hobby" to the participants, it is a professional organisation/business that needs to be run professionally and correctly so that the "hobbyists" can enjoy their activities. Once you have democracy you can never go back! So, Is full democracy really what you want? or is it the ability to have a say and be listened to.
  23. For background information if i recall correctly if it wasn't for a legacy of the late Bill Spilstead then NSW wouldn't have Erskine Park even as a leasehold! In Victoria we are fortunate to have two major dog exhibition facilities, both on the fringes of the Metropolitan Zone: State Dog Park at Cranbourne (south east of Melb)(owned by the VCA) (purchased by the then KCC in the late 1970s and developed since with the support of the canine fraternity from throughout the state; the Bulla Exhibition Centre (north west of Melb-near Melbourne Airport) leased from the Calabrian Club, (and again developed with the support of the canine fraternity from throughout the State. (Note: Before BEC the VCA had the Showgrounds, Ascot Vale leased from the RASV (including office) which was widely used until rent and maintenance costs made the choice to leave easy. The Showgrounds (VCA) facility closed in 1992 and we had one facility for a number of years until BEC opened). With the number of events being conducted it was necessary for a second major facility and a suitable site had been sourced for a number of years in the northern region of the metropolitan fringe. The Bulla site became available and options were taken to secure the site. Regional events are still conducted throughout the state in venues hired for the purpose. Revenue generated from members and activities throughout the State are used to maintain both facilities and fundraising has been used in the past to build new infrastructure and make improvements. As members of Dogs Victoria/VCA we are the VCA, whilst the facilties remain in the name of the VCA we can have a say in where the money is spent and do so each year in approving the budget. Klink speak with your representatives on Dogs NSW and see what alteratives/options are available!!!

Virgin Australia charges fees based on the combined weight of each container and the pet(s) which will travelling in that container.
