  1. Is this the same Lappi that went BIG at Sunshine KC?
  2. 3. I pretty sure the numbers were supposed to be large enough for people outside the rings on the opposite side to be able to see! Was extremely helpful in the days when classes were normally so big that 1/2 hours judging may have still been on the same class, let alone breed. Over the years they have progressively become smaller, maybe at the same time as class sizes. I can recall Royal Shows having an exemption as they had their numbers being pre printed and type fonts were limited in sizes.
  4. This is actually written into the Domestic Animals Act in Victoria. Domestic Animals Act 1994 - SECT 65 Liens over animals 65. Liens over animals (1) The proprietor of a place where a dog or cat is being boarded has a lien over that animal for any amount the proprietor is entitled to under subsection (2). (2) The holder of a lien under subsection (1) may retain that animal until- (a) any sums owing to him or her have been paid in full; and (b) any additional expenses incurred by him or her in caring for the animal have been paid. (3) Despite this section, the owner of an animal which has been left in the possession of another person without the owner's consent may recover that animal. (4) A lien under this section continues to exist even though the lien holder allows the animal to be taken temporarily out of his or her custody or possession. (5) A person must not- (a) remove an animal from a person who holds a lien over that animal; or (b) retain custody or possession of an animal over which a lien is held- without the consent of the lien holder. Penalty: 3 penalty units.
  5. Virgin Blue calculate by actual weight whilst Qantas/AaE calculate by cubic vs actual and which ever is the greater is what they charge. Also many breeds of puppies may require a larger crate than a PP20 to meet the new airline requirements.
  6. I thought this may assist you! Crate Dimensions & Prices: PP10 33 x 33 x 48.5 cm $33.00* PP20 37 x 37 x 52 cm $44.00* PP30 43 x 45 x 62 cm $49.50* PP40 44 x 53 x 73 cm $55.00* PP50 56 x 60 x 82 cm $88.00* Photo of PP50 size crate.
  7. Send me your contact details and I will make contact regarding ordering and collection. Regards Wayrod
  8. A direct flight is approximately 3 hours 25 minutes not including 90 minutes lodgement time and offloading/collection time of between 15-45 minutes. A non-direct flight is approximately 4 hours 30 minutes plus transshipment (times spent between flights) time which can vary from 90 minutes between flights not including 90 minutes lodgement time and offloading/collection time of between 15-45 minutes. Both Qantas and VirginBlue normally offer one direct flight per day between Melbourne and Cairns, normally a morning flight.
  9. Well Virgin flew a dog in to Canberra last Friday and flew it out again on Monday - from and back to Brisbane. Virgin Blue will fly in and out of Canberra as long as pet pass attached to passenger ticket. They will not take them as freight! As for lodgements/collections: Canberra Address: Gate 5, Mccan Road, Canberra Airport Directions: Turn left or right depending on direction of travel from Nomad Drive onto McCann Road. Gate 5 is on the left. When approaching gate 5, park in the 3 space car park and head for the grey building. Also if you are flying Qantas/AaE with your pets as freight you now have to complete the Pet Shipper Declaration which is forwarded out to you with your booking confirmation.
  10. The latest trend to enter the boarding kennels industry is warehouse kennelling. They provide the glamourous surroundings that look visually pleasing to the owners, ones that pay the bills, but provide for the greater number of pets to be housed in the smallest amount of area. Also are these warehouses manned 24/7/365? Penalty rates for quality staff alone should make them cost prohibitive to operate. I see the UK style kennels operations, should be the way we should go, just adapted to suit Australian conditions. Kennel facilities with 20 or less units in a building to ease the spread of biosecurity concerns. Check out www.boardingkennels.org to see how some of these kennel operations in the UK and surrounds are now changing.
  11. Possibly try Whitehorns Meats in Gap Road Sunbury. They have alot of preservative and gluten free meats available, they can be a little pricy but cannot fault the quality. Most butchers can tailer make for you if you give them notice.
  12. Well put!!!! Also, imagine people turning up during cleaning. Some people would probably winge that kennels weren't spotless! Unfortunately not all dogs are housetrained nor can they clean their own rooms. The pets in your care come first!!!
  13. Great, i have colloidal silver. Will also use some honey. I'm 95% sure its KC after last night coughing/gagging. Latest Treatment News from USA TREATMENT OF PARVOVIRUS & KENNEL COUGH USING TAMIFLU One of the drugs making a lot of news in the veterinary therapeutic arena right now is TamiFlu (oseltamivir phosphate). This drug, developed by Roche, is used to treat human influenza. In April this year(2010), Dr. Jack Broadhurst published his findings on Veterinary Information Network (VIN), on his use of Tamiflu in the treatment of Parvo in shelter puppies. Because of a limited budget, the shelter was unable to use expensive IV fluids and hospitalization. It was one visit to a veterinarian, SQ fluids and antibiotics and back to the shelter on oral electrolytes and antibiotics. The mortality rate was 75%. When Dr. Broadhurst added Tamiflu orally at 1mg/lb, twice a day; they went from 75% mortality to 100% survival (5). When the powder is reconstituted, you have a suspension of 25ml at 12mg/cc. The amount that is given to a small p uppy, the most common patient, is 0.4 ml for a 10 lb puppy. This amount is so small it usually does not trigger vomiting if given slowly (5). No, there have been no collaborated controlled studies and the purist will question whether the Tamiflu is making any difference. After five months the success rate is in excess of 95%. Try it. You be the judge. I have had some experience with Tamiflu with another disease, which in South Florida, is causing a lot of very sick dogs. The disease is Kennel Cough. I had my bottle of Tamiflu on the shelf in my pharmacy, waiting for the first Parvo case to try it. Before I had the opportunity, I was presented with another situation. One of the greyhound trainers, who I trust, came to me for Doxycline for use in an outbreak of Kennel Cough. I seized the opportunity, as I felt I had nothing to loose but the $35.00 for the cost of the bottle of Tamiflu. I asked her to take her 3 worse dogs and give them Tamiflu at 1mg/kg, twice a day, half the dose used in Parvo. I gave her the medication on Thursday. She started treatment on Friday. On Monday, 4 days after, she was back. The 3 dogs, by Sunday night, had stopped coughing and were doing great. The other dogs showed little or no improvement. She wanted enough for all the dogs. We ordered it and had it the next day. She treated 140 dogs and the outbreak was shortened by 2-3 weeks. Her dogs were back to training, running and winning, some in a matter of days, some within 10 days of the contraction of the disease. Before Tamiflu, it would take 2-3 weeks. Two other greyhound kennels in Alabama and Kansas have had success with the use of Tamiflu in curtailing the outbreak of Kennel Cough. (A total of 282 dogs) Here again, the purist will say that kennel cough manifests itself in various ways and with variation in severity and convalescence. I know this fact only too well, but when you get a clinical response with the use of a product, when the only variable is that product, then I will use that product as long as it does no harm. Tamiflu (oseltamivir phosphate) is a neuraminidase inhibitor. What is neuraminidase? ? It is a protein found on the surface membrane of many viruses and bacteria. Its presence enables the virus to break from the host cell to infect other cells and is required for the virus to pass through mucous to reach non-infected cells. Neuraminidase is also required for a pathogenic bacteria to colonize. In the case of Bordetella bronchoseptica organisms, the major component of Kennel Cough, it has neuraminidase receptors on their cell membranes that enable them to colonize on respiratory epithelial cells. Neuraminidase inhibitors, like Tamiflu, will prevent colonization in the trachea and bronchi. There are 6 possible mechanisms that a neuraminidase inhibitors, such as Tamiflu, may work. Inhibition of viral particles released from infected cells Reduce the ease with which the virus can move to infect adjacent cells Reduce bacteria colonization Reduce the migration of white blood cells, macrophages, from the blood to the infected tissue to create cellular injury Reduce the number of T-Lymphocytes from migrating to the infected tissue creating cellular injury Reduce the role of any bacterial toxins on muscles, blood vessels, lymph nodes, liver, spleen, kidney and trachea (5). The success of Tamiflu depends on the neuraminidase factor. This drug is like using a laser as opposed to most antibiotics, which are like a shot gun A word of caution. Tamiflu does not work on the Distemper virus or other forms of gastroenteritis. By: FERNANDES, PETER T. AARDVARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL 7005 WEST 4 TH AVENUE HIALEAH , FLORIDA 33014 Dr. Fernandes is the past president of the South Florida Veterinary Medical Association and the South Florida Veterinary Foundation, and is a member of the board of the Humane Society of Greater Miami and Pet Rescue. 14. The flooding at the Park is not something new, previous CEOs and Management Committees were informed that by "altering the lay of the land" by bringing in the fill to the rear of the property would have this affect but they wanted all these exhibition areas, which you cannot use in wet weather. As with any election process may be it is time that members started voicing their concerns at AGMs and vote in new members during the current election for Management Committee to get things done. It up to the members!!!! As for recourse, it was suggested years ago that as each affiliate is a seperate legal entity there may be an opportunity for recourse, but at the end of the day the members will be ones out of pocket.
  15. Message forwarded from Classic Dog Show Chairperson Hi Everyone, It is with regret that we were put into the situation to cancel the Classic Dog Show at around 7.00am this morning (February 5th). Again the decision wasn’t made lightly; however, the safety of exhibitors, judges, stewards, ticket writers and committee must always be put first. While the indoor pavilion was high and dry, the roadways around the complex were not. When people started arriving from 6.30am onward the car park in front of the offices was again under water and water was over the Wedge Road entrance. The roadway running parallel with the highway was covered with about 300m of water and was rising. The Classic Show Manager and Chairman (Andrew Burt & Bob Bell) assessed the situation and the decision to cancel was made after chatting with Graham Tracey & John Cassar from the Management committee and a number of committee and exhibitors already on the ground. Special thanks to Graham Tracey and Janet Davidson who provided great assistance in accessing the office to enable a notice to be immediately placed on the web-site and to those members present who placed notices on ‘Facebook’ for us. Being one of the last to leave the park, the water had risen considerably; I watched the car in front of me take off and was alarmed to see the water come about halfway up the door as it moved along that section of the roadway parallel to the highway. Thanks again to everyone for the fabulous entry and your wonderful support and you know all monies collected are going to a very worthy cause. Sincerely, BOB BELL
  16. We most definitely have not only a plan but complete procedures manual, for all occasions, for humans and animals, not just fire or floods, but also for power blackouts and anything else you can imagine. Some councils now require this type of document be sighted as part of their yearly approval of pet boarding establishments.

  18. Latest list from Rudducks only has GR Adult available in 3kg or 12 kg bags. No mention of GR Junior.
  19. available from where ?? Prior arrangements for pick up can be made by PM me for arrangements for delivery, including at shows at Bulla or KCC Park.
  20. Maybe because I am group 5 exhibitor, although not showing at this show.
  21. Due to temperatures in Melbourne on Tuesday water containers and water were placed in all crates for pets we transported. Both Qantas and Virgin were extremely good in allowing crates to have water containers added before crates were sealed, once sealed the containers stayed, plus at the freight buildings all animals were placed in the cooler parts of their buildings. Airconditioned where possible to help keep them cool. for both airlines.

  24. Don't sell your services short! It is no good doing grooming for $20 if it costs you $35 in materials and labour. If you enjoy grooming, this is one way to quickly loose interest. Depending on your area, what other groomers are in the area and the services that you are offering to do in your "packages" $50-$60 is not an unreasonable starting point. I find it is not what others do not do in their packages but what you offer that is different to the others that sets you apart from them. ie groins/armpits, cutting nails, plucking ears and even squeezing anal glands, if needed that most dog owners are interested in. I must admit your location and reputation are big factors in how busy you can be.
  25. A new consignment of PP50 crates have arrived. Priced at $88.00 incl GST. Delivery extra.
