  1. Yep, it is hard to mistake them once you've seem quite a few - they do have a very distinct hop and posture but someone who isn't familar with them won't be able to identify them based on the hop or posture like we can
  2. There are numerous frog species which look very similar to cane toads. There are pretty clear differences but it is important to carry a good torch and take your time identifying what you're killing. http://www.canetoads.com.au/toadfrog.htm
  3. I have made my first oopsy I put so much work into making sure Gizmo didn't become collar smart that I forgot about the e-collar remote. He has figured out the only time he gets the weird stim is when the e-collar remote is in my hand. As soon as I get it in my hand I see his focus change. I don't require focus from him but he pays way more attention to my voice (I don't use hand signals). Luckily it is an easy fix but I can't believe I didn't think of him getting remote smart!
  4. It's not a very well thought out rule.
  5. Hmph. If I put it on my neck then I can feel it lower
  6. I can't feel it till level 19/20 on my dogtra!
  7. Level 3 out of 127 (Dogtra 1902 - low to high power) I'm starting to think that maybe Gizmo can actually hear the collar, rather than feel it at such a low level. I used it before to check whether he was actually responding to it on level 3 or whether I am just such an awesome trainer that he is proofed enough that he doesn't need it already... He definitely knows something is happening but whether he can feel the stimulation or hear the electrical pulse is what I am not sure on.
  8. Just curious here, What is the lowest level you've ever had to use? Today I realised Gizmo was working fine on level 3 when I normally use level 5. Level 3 seems to be a very, very low level! Now, I can't say for sure if he was feeling it or not but he was complying with my commands This wasn't under low distraction either. Probably what I'd consider medium.
  9. Large quantities & overfeeding are not the same thing though. If someone is over cautious and reads that they should never feed large quantities of food and they believe it then they may refrain from feeding a dog the levels of food they require. You out of all people should know that some people will follow advice even if it appears that it is the wrong thing to do. If the dog needs large quantities of food then you must give the dog large quantites of food. Feeding the dog less food because "more" might damage it whilst ignoring the nutritional requirements of the dog is dangerous. Underfeeding would result in just as many health issues as over feeding would. Wouldn't it be better advice to simply advise people not to overfeed & to consult their vet if they are unsure how much food they should be feeding? What's a large amount of food anyway? 200grams? 400grams? 1kg? 1.5kg? 2kg? Is large simply more than the dog requires? If so, why not just say that rather than saying not to feed large quantities. The reason I think using "large" is poor advice is because it is too ambigious, it might not necessarily be stupid advice though if you make sure the "reader" actually understands what you mean. I just think telling owners not to feed large quantities of food could be damaging in some circumstances. I was feeding Montu what was probably considered "large" quantities of food but since his training is active, and he was growing fast I had to. If I was a new dog owner & I had never had dogs before I could potentially have not fed the increased amount of food for fear of causing him troubles. In fact, even as an experienced dog owner I as worried and he dipped underweight at a stage as I wasn't feeding enough for fear of causing him to grow too quickly.
  10. You always have a choice, its irresponsible to tell new puppy buyers its ok to feed large quantities of food. Pups should only be feed the appropriate amount of food, especially in large breeds. It can be irresponsible NOT to. If the dog is growing at a fast rate then you MUST give them enough food to SUSTAIN the growth. Sure, you can let your dog turn to skin and bones if you want but I prefer to give my dogs their nutritional requirements even if that means I have to feed them 1.5-2kg a day. Telling new owners never to feed large quantities of food is stupid advice.
  11. Yeah, to me a brief period of velcro dog shows me the dog is learning how to avoid the stim. He has it completely wrong of course, but it shows learning is going on.
  12. Velcro dog is a good thing imo, it's because the dog "learns" that it is only stimmed away from you. I start teaching sit when this occurs to break that idea. Other than that, Cosmo hit the nail on the head. If you want a group specific to e-collars jump onto Lou Castles website and he has a Yahoo group with a whole bunch of e-collar users & trainers. I get the threads sent to my email address and I read every single comment/post just to learn.
  13. Just a comment on the previous page with growing fast. Sometimes you have no choice with feeding large quantities. Montu was growing stupidly quickly and I had to feed him enough to sustain his growth. If I had attempted to slow it down by feeding less he would be skin and bones. I know you weren't suggesting that she stops feeding her dog when it grows but I just thought I should point out that if your dog starts growing faster then you MUST feed him more whilst he is in that growth spurt.
  14. There we go, that's asically the perfect definition for me. I was having trouble putting it into words. If generations of kelpies have been selected based on their skill "working" farm animals than wouldnt it become second nature for that breed of dog to display this instinct? Therefor IMO it would be much more difficult to obedience train a dog to work with it's owner and to comply to commands that are not instinctual. And if it's not considered work in the dog sense it is bloody hard work for the owner to get their dog to the upper level of obedience. It doesn't matter if it difficult.
  15. I just wanted to sit at the front I got season 1 of CM from Josie (I copied her set) and I accidentally downloaded season 4.
  16. I fed my GSD pup the same as he gets as an adult. A balanced diet is a balanced diet.
  17. So if you are feeding a RMB you cut some of the meat off? Raw food is definitely very high value for Daisy. Yaha. I mostly feed kangaroo tail for the sibes. Kangaroo tails and chicken wings basically make the bulk of Gizmos diet (and lily is mostly chicken). The roo tails I usually just slice 50grams of roo meat off and then either cut that up and use it for treats or grab some chicken or whatever - if I get chicken then the 50grams of kangaroo will usually just get frozen for treats for another day or the cat gets it. For some reason they love roo tails but occasionally won't be interested in the actual meat. ETA: I find Kangaroo a pita to feed raw, especially if you feed similar sized treats to me. It's not the best thing to cut up so if I use roo I generally partially cook it first. It's super lean though which is why I use it.
  18. I cut up some of their dinner & weigh it. Or if I use some other kind of meat, I usually use 50grams of treats and dock their dinner by 50grams.
  19. I dont really know what it is :D All the email said is it is an online video coaching course or something. It came with the Platnium ticket to the Ceaser Milan show and I don't have a desire to do it.
  20. Does anyone want my free month (value $60) to use? I won't be using it, so if someone wants a month free let me know and I'll give you the details next month. First in best dressed.
  21. Lmao, she is tame as - she doesn't really care about much of anything. She wasn't too fussed with the experience. Probably would have been different if lily got her tail but I am a ninja...
  22. Lily redirected her aggression at me when I teased her with the cat She had her head through a hole in the cat climbing tower thing and I was being the awesome owner I am and dangling the cats tail just out of reach and she was nipping wildly at the air and then just turned and nipped my arm! She snapped out of it immediately though. Lesson learnt: Do not use Birmans as toys. (This was a few weeks back, I've now taught Lily that cats are enemies, but not mortal enemies.)
  23. I don't feed a true prey model diet, but I feed no veges or other crap. Why? Because wolves never needed them.
