Yes...they can 'break' their penis - has to do with a bone in there.

Yes desexed dogs can still mount things...they can in fact still tie with a bitch. Intact or desexed bitches often mount/hump as well.

As to the peeing in the crate...the best thing i can suggest is check with the vet to rule out a UTI or a weak bladder and then go back to toilet training from the beginning...including teaching the dog to pee on command. There are some great threads regarding those kind of lessons.

Wish them the best for their boy.

She's at her wits end and of course with water restrictions in place, she cannot really hose down the crate, so she wipes it down with toilet tissue. She has removed all bedding but he still pees.[/font]

I would say that water restrictions would not apply when it comes to animal hygiene/living conditions. She'd be best calling the Water Board and finding out (or even the RSPCA would be better).

As far as water restrictions go - she can hose the crate with a hand held hose. It is preferable that she use something like a pressure cleaner that uses less water or a bucket but a quick hose is definitely allowed. Water restrictions do not apply when related to the care and maintenance of domestic pets.

When we had our elderly rottie who squirted a lot - I checked with the councils and we were allowed to hose out the garage and back veranda because that was his primary sleeping places and it was due to hygiene reasons.

Yes, they have a bone in their penis that can be broken.

Being desexed only stops sperm - not the urges  Particularly if humping was already a habit before being desexed.

The smell of urine in the crate, if it's not being cleaned properly, will only encourage the dog to go more in the crate - if it smells like a toilet, and it's been used as a toilet, it must be a toilet. She needs to go back to the basics of toilet training - out 1/2 hour after meals, immediately upon waking, every 2 - 3 hours during the night. She will need to set her alarm and suck it up for a few weeks until he's got it. Crate MUST be cleaned - if it remotely smells like urine to the dog (even if we can't smell it), it's going to be much harder.
