I suggest getting her to a puppy school - you said you are in Albion Park - I am in Wollongong and can recommend some to you. This will give her some socialisation with other dogs and people and give her some confidence.

There are some trainers to avoid and some good ones around to.

Dont be disheartened, it will just take some work to get her to become a great companion :)

Could you please? recommend someone to me?

There would be very few members here who haven't sat down at one point with every puppy they've had and thought "OH MY GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE".

I know because I'm one of them. :o

Me three (or is it fourth now?). The craziest thing is now that evil pup is almost two years old, we have even come around to the idea of having another one again :) although not for some time - but mum is even keen for another beagle :confused:

That's coz Daisy charms you with her good looks :o

I am really sorry to hear that you are struggling with your pup. There are many people on here that have probably gone through the same thing before. Stick around on DOL and you will get a lot of help and at the very least, hundreds of shoulders to cry on when you want to give up. :o

Sorry to hear you're feeling so down about this all, but please don't give up. Unfortunately (and I am in no way trying to be rude or mean to you), this is the price you pay with petshop puppies. If she has been in the pet shop window for that long, then house-training will be a very difficult task.

The good news? It is possible.

Getting a trainer/behaviourist in is a fabulous idea and you should be congratulated for going to that measure (unfortunately, too many people put it in the "too hard/too expensive/it's just a dog" basket). Just listen & learn to what the professional says, and also to the ever-helpful people here on DOL. Above all, be consistent with your training. She will get it eventually.

And now to the important stuff..

...photos? :)

Me as well - Kaos was a shocker as a pup and is now going great guns! Love the high drive though it is difficult in the early days. I'm even thinking of upgrading the craziness from a Kelpie to a Malinois or similar next time :)

Honey needs some time, some guidelines, and lots of consistency- praise and correction at appropriate times, and a belief that she will get there !!!!

(just like a human child who is behind the eightball at school--- baby steps- get one thing done properly at a time ...)

BREATHE...................... :)

Hello & welcome to dol. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter. That's something that you never forget.

You'll get through this with patience & the help of a behaviourist. I will message you also with some sites for trainers(they only seem to be in Wollongong & Illawarra.) & puppy info.

I'm having a few problems with my 7 m/o pup still wetting inside every other week. In the beginning I crate trained her which worked for a while until she refused to stay in it at night without making a terrible fuss. I was prepared to leave her but having a hubby & sons working, they needed their sleep & went out to her. Now she sleeps on a dog bed in a small room.

But because your pup was kept in a cage for so long I don't think crate training will work. How is she with other people? I have heard that the only good thing about pet shop puppies that they are used to people because they see different folks all the time.

My hubby & I have been to Albion Park pub a couple of times the last couple of years for lunch. They make beautiful meals.

Well now i have some positive stuff to tell my helpers, angels that you are :)

I have taken on board a lot of suggestions and advice that you all have posted, have had the whole day at home to work hard with her and:

1.I have ditched the newspaper/puppy pad stuff and have got a litter tray with shredded paper in so we will see how that goes.i have been taking her outside every half hour or so,and waiting(and waiting) til she does a wee and then get into paroxyms of praise and cuddles when she does one.Two accidents in the house today instead of a filthy floor.I have also limited her access to the house when I go outside or when I went to the shop, my house is open plan so she had the run of the place, when i went out before I closed doors so that she had access to her bed in the laundry and the hallway.

2.i put my nightie that i wore last night into her bed, and she has gone back in there for a sleep(after her washing machine trauma) YAY!!!

3.i have been (pretending) to ignore her whining, and when she is settled by herself, I give her loves and attention and she seems to be whining a bit less.

4. She never, ever goes out to the garden without me, and as soon as I make a move to come in, she comes in after me.So I got her some chicken necks and chopped a bit off and gave it to her outside. She has been happily chewing out there for the last 20 mins or so,no whinging and me inside. She has tried to bring it inside 3 or 4 times now, but I stop her and say NO Honey, outside, and point to the door. She goes, and I say good girl.

Its the first 20 minutes peace I have had since saturday.

Thank you so much you guys for helping me out.Sounds like days of our Lives i know, and seems very silly to be stressing so much, but this morning I thought I would be ringing the RSPCA or something,i have been so overwhelmed with stress and frustration, more at my own inabilities than her.

What do you think of todays results?

You have done very well- both of you!!

thanks! Theres a tiny glimmer of hope there now where there was none this morning, when i found this website.can i just ask....I have been leaving a dish of food and water available to her all the time,I put warm water in with her dry food,as she never drinks her water, but will lap up the water in with the food.Should I be doing this, or just feeding her at certain times, and leaving water out ?

maybe I am feeding her too much sort of thing.

Well done, as said before baby steps.

Puppies up til 6 mths old need 3 meals per day. I would leave her with water, with summer coming she needs to have fresh water available. Take it up a couple of hours before bedtime & hopefully she will start to hold on.

I'm a firm believer in giving dogs raw meaty bones but be careful with chicken necks. I've heard good & bad stories about them. Sooty, my son's dog when she was a baby used to swallow them whole so I chopped them up but that didn't work either. I'm amazed they didn't cause her any problems, only when she swallowed them. Honey can have raw chicken wings, legs & lamb flaps. If she's spending time chewing them, there should be no problems. The chewing will exercise her & maybe she will be tired afterwards & sleep.

I wouldn't leave food down for honey - feed her at set times and if she doesnt eat it all within say, 15 minutes, pick up her bowl. No fuss, no worries. She will soon learn that if she doesnt eat she has to wait.

Watch Honey carefully with necks/wings etc. good thing if she doesn't wolf them down, but I don't ever give mine bones if they are to be left unattended.

Good on you for a job well done :) remember, consistency is the key, and Nothing in Life is Free!! (for honey)

Best of luck tonight. Would love to see some pics of Honey.

just feeding her at certain times, and leaving water out ?

That sounds a very good plan!

feed her a few times a day- make her sit and wait-- lots of praise for finishing her food...

Only trouble is,she wont drink water by itself.only the water i mix in with her food.

Hey guess what? she is sittin at my feet here, not a bother.no whinging because my attention is elsewhere!!!! I have been reading up on Lhasa apsos, and they appear to be very much a one person dog,as they are originally Tibetan temple dogs, and never left the Dali lamas side, they were his indoor protectors kind of thing,so maybe thats why she never ever leaves my side

Maybe because i have devoted my entire day to her(with a Uni assignment due tomorrow too eek)trouble is im back to work tomorrow . i hope the little bit of progress today wont regress when Im not around all day.lucky i work in a school so at least she is only by herself for3 hours or so at a time because Im coming home lunchtimes.
