i have bought a pup but the parents had no papers ( but are known to there local vet as staffys). she had her first shot and the vet wrote "staffy" for breed?

how can i go about getting her registered??

You must first have the puppy chipped if you are in NSW or do a change of ownership ( the puppy should have been chipped by it's breeder or the petshop ). Once chipped , you take your white paper called the NSW Companion Animal Register Certificate of Identifaction along to your local council and pay the money to register your dog. It does not need to be registered until 6 months of age but you can do it at any time prior to that age.

If it's you Pit puppy registering at something else will not prevent a ranger from issuing you with a notice of intent to declare it a restricted breed. It will however enable you to bail it out of the pound a lot quicker than if it's not chipped and registered and with less fines to pay.

If the parents are not registered (have no papers) then you cant get them for your pup

ETS Are your talking about registered as in pedigree regsitration papers or ones with local council?

just a council regestration, on the NSW website i just checked it sed i need the microchip form and thats pretty much it, i always thought i needed to have the perants forms but that must be for a pedigree regestration only.

Once a dog is registered as a certian breed can it be disputed later on? and on what grounds can i fight it?

I just explained in the other thread that you can chip and register your dog as any breed or cross that you believe it to be. This will not however prevent your dog from coming under ranger scrutiny.

Things are getting tougher in NSW and with the latest attack and death they are set to get a lot worse.

Be aware that any ranger anywhere in NSW can stop you whilst in public ( or come to your home ) and issue you with an Notice Of Intent to declare your dog to be of a restricted breed.

Your avenue of appeal is via a breed assessor. They are mostly Dogs NSW judges, who will assess your dog , at your expense. If you take this option, there is NO means of appeal if they consider your dog to be a Pit Bull or a cross bred Pit.

If breed assessed as an APBT, the chip details will be changed and you will be required to comply with the child proof enclosure, muzzle and leash requirements.

If ruled a restricted breed cross, you can they at your own expense have your dog temperament assessed ( by DGL approved list of assessors ), if it passes it can live as per a normal dog. Fail TT and it's the enclosure , muzzle and leash for the rest of it's life.

So in a nutshell you can do what you like, but if you walk your dog on the street or a neighbour dobs you in for having a restricted breed, it's in the hands or essentially one person to decide you dogs fate, unless you have an aweful lot of money to chuck around and go to court.

If you purchase any bull breed or cross without ANKC registration papers, you could well find yourself appealing an NOI , all at your costs.

Stuffed? i dont know what you mean by that

the fact he has a pitbull in a state that does not allow them and cannot afford to abide by the law or hide the dogs real identity.

sydking have a read of this - http://www.dlg.nsw.gov.au/DLG/DLGHome/Docu..._-_Brochure.pdf

"It is an offence in New South Wales to sell, acquire or breed dogs on the restricted dog list."

"Staffy" is not a breed, and puppies can look either way. Staffy can be either a APBT, American Staffordshire Terrier or Stafford Bull Terrier, or crosses. You have no papers and from your other thread I assume you went out and purposely purchased a pitbull puppy. If you live with your parents have you let them know the law? Have you let them know as the property owners they share responsability for this dog if it is declared a DD or that if someone dobs you in a ranger may show up on the door?

So should sydking dump the dog? since he's stuffed and all.

no he should get money together and abide by the law for the dogs sake. Socialise it, obedience train it and make it a model citizen.

Not hide it, falsify its breeding and chain it in the backyard so it cant jump the fence.

Well said. He wanted an APBT, he got an APBT, and now he can be a responsible APBT owner.

well by not hiding it it will be a restricted breed, therefor caged all day ( even tho one of my first option but have looked into it more and will not be doing it) and when out of cage, muzled and can never be of the leash. And the leash can not be held by someone younger than 18.
