I'm a little over this negativity. There's a difference between making someone aware of the law and shoving doomsday crap down their throat in between tut tutting at them like a disapproving grandmother.

well by not hiding it it will be a restricted breed, therefor caged all day ( even tho one of my first option but have looked into it more and will not be doing it) and when out of cage, muzled and can never be of the leash. And the leash can not be held by someone younger than 18.

Taking it for a walk, to the dog park or in your car, it will still be a Restricted Breed and you have the added bonus of having an APBT that is pretty much exactly the type that any member of the public would pick as one. If it so much as scratches in public, someone will probably report you.

You got the dog sydking, now suck it up and don't become the type of owner that got them on the restricted list in the first place - an irresponsible one.

The dog need only be caged when not inside with you. For many dogs that would only be when you aren't home. Many dogs walk very happily in a muzzle - ask racing Greyhound owners.

sydking I really do feel you are a cracker short of a firework display.

A dog is not for Christmas.

A dog is not for status symbol.

A dog is a loyal companion who dotes on your every being. They love nothing better than going for walks with you, going to the beach, chasing a ball and being with you on any outing.

By having a restricted breed you are limiting this dogs ability to be involved. I suggest you do as poodlefan suggested suck it up and be responsible.

Oh and make sure she is desexed.

sydking, let me tell you something, I am only one of 3 people that i know of on this forum of 20,000 members that actually live with the restrictions of having an APBT, and in a 12 yr period across 3 states i can tell you restrictions mean jack shit to the dogs wellbeing or mental stability, like I said before do not worry yourself over restrictions. when/if the time comes to have an assesment deal with it then. But dont worry yourself over it mate.

Ah NSP I always wondered if you were Beau :love:

Its a forum populated by about 16,749 women - of course melodrama is going to be the prevailing sentiment!

:) :) :(

Recap on the tactics for arguing with women:

The Women's Rules

1. The female always makes the rules

2. The rules are subject to change at any time without prior notification.

3. No male can possibly know all the rules.

4. If the female suspects the MALE know all the rules, she must immediately change some or all of the rules.

5. The female is never wrong.

6. If the female is wrong, it is due to a misunderstanding which was a result of something the male did or said wrong.

7. The male must apologize immediately for causing said misunderstanding.

8. The female may change her mind at any time.

9. The male must never change his mind without the express written consent of the female.

10. The female has every right to be angry or upset at any time.

11. The male must remain calm at all times unless the female wants him to be angry or upset.

12. The female must, under no circumstances, let the male know whether or not she wants him to be angry and/or upset.

13. The male is expected to mind read at all times.

14. Any attempt to document the rules could result in bodily harm.

15. If the female has PMS, all the rules are null and void.

16. The female is ready when she is ready.

17. The male must be ready at all time.

18. The male who doesn't abide by the rules can't take the heat, lacks backbone, and is a wimp.

I missed seeing the photo of your new little one but enjoy every moment. Any dog can act like a restricted breed at any stage.....

Nothing wrong with being safe then sorry especially when the purchaser was aware he got an APBT.

After helping friends of mine get back their dog who spent 12 months in the council pound being decided whether she was dangerous, an actual APBT etc to be finally released back to her family of 2 small children :) They let that poor dog live in her pen alone, go through 2 seasons surrounded by randy male dogs who tried to get at her as well :) so she came back snappy at other dogs which I helped her fix. Beautiful creature and knows all the cute tricks.

dude call me oogy boogy but having seen the shit end of this law all I try and do is let other people learn from other mistakes. This dog was NOT an APBT in any way but if a dog that far removed could go through all this imagine what yours might if you dont follow the law.

Then there was the little red nosed girl who was just turning 8 weeks old when she spent two weeks in a Sydney pound while myself and her owner desperately tried to get her back.

She was breed assessed whilst still in the pound and found to be an RB cross, she was released shortly after that breed assessment and still had her NOI in place pending temp test... She was carried out of the pound on leash and muzzled as per the requirements. Waiting outside the pound sitting in his car , ready to seize her for non compliance was guess who.

The advice, very correctly, has to centre on the fact that this dog has been obtained in breach of the laws of the state in which it lives.

The "negativity" I've read urges the owner to comply with restricted breed legislation, NOT to chain it up and to do the right thing by a dog that, if impounded probably faces a death sentence. No point taking a sunshine and lollipops approach to what may end up a life and death issue.

Any dog can act like a restricted breed at any stage.....

What crap.

APBTs got on the RB list and die because people don't do right by them. How "negative" is that? Being a restricted breed is a matter of law, not behaviour. A Dangerous Dog is a behaviourally based declaration.

And playing the gender card Wobbly is pretty feeble. Amazing how a bit of conflict brings out a person's true colours but I suppose you're hardly the first male to suggest that having a uterus dictates how people might think. Next you'll be targeting my breed of choice for ridicule.

IF APBT owners can behave responsibly, there's every chance that breed restrictions can be overturned eventually. That's not the case now.

Of course, here in the beautiful ACT, we don't have any breed restrictions. I'll fight tooth and nail to keep it that way but that cause will not be assisted by any APBT owner who doesn't carefully think through their dog's purchase, containment and upbringing. Shoving a middle finger up at dog related legislation plays right into the hands of the dog haters in our community - and there are plenty of them.

Poodlefan I really feel this dipstick has no idea of the ramifications of his situation :):):( and the affect to his dog.

He's being told by some in the breed that most posters are being overly "negative" BB. All I can say is I hope he does right by the dog and this doesn't end badly.

You know no offense but why is it whenever theres a discussion and anything about pitbulls come up a lot {not all} of the people who own them come in all guns blazing and aggressive and the f%$# word starts appearing ;) A lot of joe public already think that all pitbulls are owned by bogans and criminals and posts like this just reinforce it IMO.I got in a discussion on this forum last year and was sworn at and got nasty pms telling me I was a bsl supporter just coz I questioned the comments in a post.Geez I know Ill get flamed for this but sometimes you guys are your own worst enemy and dont further your cause one bit :mad

I really like pitbulls and any Ive met have been great but there a restricted breed and there are things have gotta be done if you want to own one and not have it taken off you.The OPs got to realise this is serious stuff and hes got to comply with the law and then calsonic and NSP come on and just about tell him not to worry about it and everything will be fine.Sure the dogs only a wee pup at the moment and no trouble but if he doesnt put the work in and make sure his yards escape proof and his dogs preoperly trained and socialized it could be different when the dogs a year old.I dont think owning a restricted breed is something to be taken lightly at all and if something goes wrong its the dog that suffers and may even lose its life.

That actually made me laugh out loud. Talk about leaping to wildly erroneous conclusions without bothering to check the simplest facts.

Also I'm rather fond of poodles.

He has the puppy already, he's asking for constructive help & advice on how best to care for her, not hysterical drama mongering.

Erroneous conclusions? The "facts" I based my conclusions on Wobbly were provided in your post:

Gee no gender stereotyping there. ;) Seems to me that you're displaying more hysteria (although anatomically impossible) than anyone else here.

Yep, he's got a banned breed. He expects sympathy and reckons he'll be victimised. Which part of banned is he missing? It's like expecting sympathy and support for street racing, drink driving or speeding in my eyes.. if you do it knowningly, suck it up and pay the consequences. Don't bleat about how cops pick on you cos you drive a fully sic WRX.

There is some good advice here.

1. Do not tether the dog.

2. Abide by the requirements for a restricted breed.

3. Socialise and train it.

I fail to see why it is so unpalatable when abiding by it may keep the dog safe.
