Open your eyes and see her for what she's really trying to get across.

Which in your eyes would be?

That you should be reported mate. just to make sure you are responsible.

I should have called the ranger months ago when the new neighbours moved in with their Pit Bull. Of course believing in punish the deed and not the breed, I thought they would be responsible and treated their dog just like any other.

I should have called and I should have insisted that they ranger issue an NOI.

Just because some owners dont comply with the draconian laws that are in place, doesnt make APBT owners iresponsible.

Yes it does.

One of my favourite breeds of dog is a bull terrier. I would love to own one and have had the opportunity; however I know that my lifetstyle works with my pointers and it wouldn't work for a bull terrier.

If you can't do the right thing by the dog, including sticking to the laws in place (no matter how 'draconian' they are in regards to APBT), then you are putting the dog at risk. That is irresponsible. The right thing by the dog is not taking it home in the first place.

I know a bull terrier is different, but something as simple as not having it fit into my lifestyle was enough for me to not take on the responsibility.

The only thing PPS has to input on the APBT is negativity.

Given the irresponsible behaviour demonstrated by some APBT owners, there's a fair bit to be negative about.

The biggest threat to the breed lies within the ranks of its fanciers IMO.

Yep and it's the irresponsible ones amongst them that are letting both the dogs and the breed down.

If the guy next to PPS had been obeying the law and had his dog locked up like he shouldve done by law the dog wouldnt have got out and savaged the dog next door and made another negative against pitbulls. From what I can see your all digging your own (your dogs) graves by thumbing your noses at the law.Anyway Ive said what I think so nothing more from me in this thread Ive been attacked and sworn at before on this forum and I dont want it again thanks.

Just a small correction, next door on both sides are responsible dog owners, they are registered and kept in accordance with the CAA. It's the one over the back who doesn't.

but what about all the responsible ones who are doing the right thing, promoting the breed for what it is and abiding by the law.

Well from what Northern Star Pits just said there arent many of those. And Im always seeing posts on dogz by people with pitbulls saying they dont comply with the law and never will some owners even brag about it.I dont agree with the law either but its the law.I dont own a pitbull but Im a bull breed lover and it seems to me that a lot of pitbull owners are there own worst enemies going by the way a lot of them come across on here.

I don't comply with the law like I should but I know damn well that my dogs can't escape into the yard next door and attack the neighbours dog.

Report me if you must. Good luck

all I can say is this: PPS, I know you do not hate APBTs, only the irresponsible people who do not do the right thing...

If you choose to own a breed in the predicament the APBT is in, then you have to be SUPER responsible, if you choose not to comply with the laws, then make damn sure your dog CANT EVER get out cause this sort of problem... that is how the owners of GSDs lifted the 40 year ban on them, by ensuring their dogs were never involved in any incidents...

A Nomad, is Palmerston still a safe zone for APBTs?? I know Darwin City Council have banned them but I heard Palmerston is still ok..

Roobedoo, DCC hasnt banned them.

The whole argument PPS makes is about people complying with the laws, evan if they have super safe guarded there houses so there dogs cant get out.

Here we have luvabull, who is a great ambassador for the breed, a responsible owners, and yet she doesnt comply with the laws, is it the people like luvabull that are doing great harm to the breed.

Well in there eyes luvabull, you are a iresponsible owner, who is doing great harm to the breed.

Well then so be it. I admit, I am an irresponsible person for not abiding by the law and it's definitely not the only law I break but as for being a harm to breed, I don't believe so. Never have or will I, put my dogs in a situation where it could possibly be the death of them or add to the already tarnished reputation of them.

From everything I have read luvabull you have trained socialised and managed your dogs correctly.

Yes, yes and yes.

If you choose to keep your dog safely contained and not comply with the laws that's your business.

If you choose to trumpet loudly on a public forum about not complying with laws and encourage other people to flout them, then that's rather short sighted IMO.

Do the right thing or keep your head down or both.

But people who allow their dogs to contribute to the popular misconception that any breed can be inherently dangerous are not doing the right thing by their breed OR the wider community. And it just keeps happening.

APBT's are already involved in few incidents, thats how it is now and how its always been. They attack sometimes so do all dogs. The vast majority of the time someones either got it wrong, or thier elaborating stories to push thier own agendas.
