So quiet in here.

It is isn't it Penny? Nothing much happening here. The house is so much quieter without Tatum. Just a houseful of grown ups now. I bathed my lot and Gwen's Jonti yesterday in the new booster bath. That was fun and games. The hose popped off the connection in the laundry and there was water fountaining out the back door  I couldn't turn the hose off at the nozzle so Gwen had to hold the dog and hose end each time while I ran in to turn it off. We all got very wet! I'm hoping better hose connections will fix it.

Who here owns a black and tan? I would love to see photos!

I have Lacey. She's 10. I'll find some photos.

Black and tans are the worst to photograph so I don't have lots of photos of her.

This is Henry- he is a 5yo BT cav whom I have owned for since Feb this year.

He acts like an old man and is such a lovely fellow

I have a blk/tan girl but I don't post pics because my pics do not to justice to whatever/whomever I'm photographing.

No only am I a lousy photographer but posting pics and the damn resizing required on this forum is more than I can cope with.

What a pretty girl Lacey is.

Yes his name is Jake :) Hopefully the next month goes by quickly. Any tips for introducing him to my Cocker Spaniel?

An update on my 10 1/2yo Cavalier boy Bronson's congestive heart failure. He's now into the fifth month of medication and is doing very well. His exercise tolerance is not what it was so we have slow, short walks. With my back problems I can't walk for too long either so the shorter walks suit both of us. Sheesh the medication he needs is expensive but worth every cent.

My 9 1/2yo Cavalier girl Dana has recently been diagnosed with a heart murmur also. It's a 2 to 2 1/2 grade murmur. At her health check when she was 8yo no murmur was detected. She's showing no sign of problems and needs no medication at this stage. A shorter walk suits her too because I now allow the dogs to sniff around whereas we used to have fairly brisk walks with minimal sniffing allowed.

How sad that heart murmurs and deafness are rife in this beautiful breed. Dana has been deaf since she was 2yo. Bronson's has no deafness and his sire and dam both had heart certificates. This is evidently no guarantee their offspring won't develop heart problems.

If only the inheritance of MVD was easy to work out :( Phoebe was heart clear at 6, dead at 8. She still has three kids alive aged over 14. Most of her parents and grandparents lived into their teens.

I know.. My past boy Anzac just died at 7 years old.

And he only just made 7.. He was previously 100% heart clear and his mother lived to 17! His father to 12. Its just not fair frown.gif

I'm so sorry you lost your Phoebe at such a young age Gretel and sorry Denali that you lost Anzac at 7yo. That's just too young for our dogs to be taken.

If the parents are clear, where does it come from. I has to be somewhere in the lines. I would hope reputable breeders would not breed with dogs known to have MVD. I wonder if much of the problem stems from dogs being heart tested and certified as clear at a young age then MVD attacks when they're older.

I was taken by surprise that Dana was diagnosed at 9yo when previously there was no evidence of a murmur.

Bronson's murmur was detected at 5 1/2yo when he was referred to the specialist centre with pneumonia. The pneumonia happened a month or so after he had spinal surgery at this same specialist centre. I've always wondered if the pneumonia was caused by some aspiration during his spinal surgery. His murmur stayed at grade 2 from the age of 5 1/2yo until he was 9 + 4 months. He's been taking medication since the end of August. He's my special boy and I hope he continues to do well for some time yet. I guess Dana will also need meds before too long but so far she's showing no sign of distress.
