It's purrrrjury as cat gets the jury call-up

Posted Jan 11 2010, 08:35 PM by Lawyers Weekly

A Boston jury commissioner refused to budge on his jury list, despite discovering last week that one of the selected few called up for duty was a cat.

ABC's Channel 13 reports that Sal Esposito, the cat in question, received the request for jury duty via a letter posted to his dedicated owners, Guy and Anna Esposito.

Sal's lack of communication, his inability to sit still and his tendency to slink past any human with the potential to offer a pat was no excuse for the jury commissioner, with the cat's disqualification from duty form - filled out by his owner, given Sal's inability to operate a computer - ultimately rejected.

It took a letter from the cat's vet to prove that the cat was indeed a cat before the jury commissioner eventually gave in to the shortcomings of a feline and released the cat from duty

The mix-up appears to have started when the owners were so adamant that their beloved feline was a family member that they listed the cat as such under the "pets" section on their last consensus form.

For the rest of the jury it's too bad the matter was settled before Sal's scheduled March appearance because if it hadn't been it's a spectacle Folklaw thinks just may have livened up the proceedings.
