I don't even do dogsports yet, but I was back at obedience training 2 weeks after my ACL reconstruction surgery

Living in Canberra you kind of get used to bad weather, especially extreme heat and extreme cold!

Have taken Charlie to obedience in the rain. The trainer was kinda disappointed that I turned up because she thought she got to go home (I was the only person in the class that turned up.. wearing rain coat, a matching hat and gum boots.. Charlie was wearing his raincoat)... but she had still teach the "class" but I turned up

I've tried training in the rain, but Ruby just looks up at me squinting her eyes and I can't bear to see her try and then suffer cos of it, so I don't often train in the rain and have been lucky not to have trialled in pouring rain before, only a slight drizzle!

I do train all through winter, though. There are many people who only return to club grounds to train when the weather starts getting warmer. But I'm there all year round regardless! (except if it's heavy rain )

As an instructor I spew when people turn up when it is pouring! You only get a handful too so have to reteach everything the next week anyway.

Oh dear, I must be mad the only thing that would stop me is extreme heat or Noah's Ark floating past! Having said that always take the conditions into account and only do what it is safe to. My girl is another who has gained a pass in a thunderstorm, and this is a dog who really doesn't like thunder. So clearly the madness has it's rewards.

My attitude is if Miss Pants is happy to go for a walk then she can do some work too.

I don't go for walks in the rain, I don't like it and my girls would prefer not to! So if we don't like walking in the rain, training in the rain isn't going to happen either

Afraid I am not dedicated at all, I hate training/competing in the rain as well as the heat and so do my dogs so I don't bother.

We don't do walks in the rain either My boys are such princesses, my baby girl will probably be the same as her dad....prissy LOL

I'm not competing at all at the moment but back when I was dedicated... I got out of my car for a tracking competitors meeting (at the ungodly hour of 4:45am) I slammed my pinkie in the car door. And I still competed with two dogs and laid track for a friend.

Not training related, but trialled (and won) in obedience with my arm in a cast - had to take it out of the sling during our run but luckily it was the left arm and I give all commands with my right - except the recall command, which was a bit crooked

Funniest thing was the third place-getter ALSO had her arm in a cast. What're the odds?

I SOO agree!!! Whenever it's wet and I've got a class to instruct I hope that no one turns up... but inevitably a few always do and it's just like you say!

The most injured that I've ever been and still competed was the day after having had the fingernail on my thumb removed so it was still really painful and I had to throw my dumbbell with that hand. I looked soo stupid with my big white bandage around my thumb trying to throw this dumbbell!

I had a car accident a few days before a double trial where I had badly bruised my foot (it felt the impact, it was the foot on the brake and it never left it as we impacted). I hobbled round the ring and fast pace was terribly hard, but we pulled off our final pass for CCD that day, oh and first place too ;)

And for the record, it was the other silly woman's fault for the accident, I had a green light and she turned in front of me!

Reviving a month old thread, but I think it's a good one.

Mornings in Tassie, especially in the Tamar Valley where I am can be interesting. After being back in the training game for a few months now, I've trained Harry (and Abby) in: Fog so thick you can barely see the adjacent class, Frost so thick you crunch every step, Drizzle, Rain, HEAVY Rain, Rain w/distant thunder, Warm sunny morning (not looking forward to those as they get hotter!) and probably everything else in between.

Only thing I really hate training in is Wind - makes the dogs nuts and I hate it anyway.

There's a nice porch outside one of the equipment sheds where the crazy few huddle together through the worst of the rain, dogs in tow. Good close-quarters socialising!

As another poster said, it's good to train under distraction - we've even trained with the Million Paws Walk competitors coming through the middle!

Harry (my Rott) will train in the rain without squinting at me now, next challenge is to get him to stop watching the agility class during his stays :rolleyes:
