Story On The Morning Show

Hi everyone, I just saw a story on the Morning Show about PETA using a nude supermodel (I forget her name )to raise money. Apparantly if you go to their site...after paying a certain amount of money (I forget exactly how much, but I think it was $5.00 ) You then get access to nude photos of this model.

I don't know,I really don't like it ...I reackon it is exploiting women...& in a way it's like their using pornography to support their cause.

I'm not a supporter of PETA at all, but I do agree with one of the woman on the Morning show panel when she says that PETA have probably offended alot of their supporters..as alot of people that support PETA also support woman's causes too...& it will be seen that they are using a woman's body like it is a piece of meat.

PETA have defended doing this by saying that this particular model is a vegetarian..& are trying to say that you too can have a beautiful & fit body too if you don't eat meat. :cheer:

I was just wondering what you all thought about this.

what a load of horse shit - you can't tell someone is perfectly healthy any better by seeing them naked than you can if they are in a bikini or any other article of clothing.

How exactly can we tell she is healthy? Because she is skinny? Because her hair or skin look good? Sorry but skinny people with nice hair/skin and who are veggos can still be unhealthy.

All THIS is is a stupid publicity stunt from a group notorious for being media whores.

ETA - I am not offended by using nudity or models in a promotional way. I think it is silly to project victimisation onto woman who are fully aware of what they are doing with their own bodies and are making their own choices.

I know Kissindra, it's bloody ridiculous & something you would expect from this particular group. :cheer:

I'm really sick and tired of PETA TBH. Why don't they just call it and say that they're trying to use sex to sell/advocate their cause?

I don't see them using fit, healthy men to promote vegetarianism/veganism as a healthy lifestyle.

The $5 to enter their site is ridiculous. I agree with you. It does sound like your paying for nude photos, ( well, actually, you are ) and I don't think that the message that they're trying to convey, is going to get across very successfully.

I'd rather spend my money with organisations that have a different focus ie, not themselves. :cheer:

Hmmm well PETA have just shown us they definately are idiots - although we knew that anyway!

Paying for porn to help animals - yep I can see a connection there.....we actually no I can't. They are just trying to grab attention as per usual and as mentioned they are running out of arguments for their cause and ideas so going with the shock factor. The sooner they are exterminated the better.

Hopefully PETA supporters follow their own drivel and don't breed because then they will die out and leave us in peace.

I'm also hoping they don't breed & eventually die out.

I saw this story this morning.

Honestly I couldn't even concentrate on PETAs message as I was too worried about the model laying stark naked in all those little red chillis, kept thinking about how much it was gonna burn if they got into the wrong places.

Yeah I know I was thinking that too..but I also thought it looked ridiculous.

Personally, I think that suggesting pornography in general is exploiting women is far more damaging to women than the pornography itself. It's suggesting that a woman who makes money this way is incapable of understanding her choice and by extension, her own body. There's no better way to lower someone's self-worth than to insist they're so poorly equipped, they can't even make decisions for themselves.

And this is the opinion of a female who was raised around a pack of rabid feminists.

If a woman chooses to make a living getting naked.. good for her. Probably a better working environment than a lot of us have.

The porn issue aside.. frankly, given some of the other highly questionable crap PETA does, this isn't even a blip of the radar. It's all in the name of getting attention and really, it got boring quite a while ago.

If PETA wanted to get my attention, they'd need to do something totally crazy.. like.. coming up with rational arguments. Or doing some proper research. Or actually helping animals in some way.

Edited to add..

I don't see them using fit, healthy men to promote vegetarianism/veganism as a healthy lifestyle.

Sometimes, getting people to pay for something else is the only way you'll get donations. Especially when your group is really only selling ideas.

What they need to be selling, however, is something worth paying for. Naked photos of Bear Grylls, for example. Maybe a photo of him naked, eating a raw fish (because fish are totally okay to hurt, according to the logic in another thread where it was suggested that only things with nipples can feel pain).

They are going to raise heaps.

People won't care where the money is going or what for. They will just pay the $5 to see the naked model.

Yes it does sound dumb & is unethical but they will get the money in. Money = Power.

Don't worry, once the first mug buys the picture and distributes it all over the net they won't be making much money :)

HA, I know some rational and mentally healthy women make their living through porn, but an awful lot are forced to do so to pay for habits, a lot are exploited in the sex industry. I also don't think women willingly putting themselves into degrading positions is actually empowering, and those behind producing it are laughing all the way to the bank. This chick though is just another dumbo who was probably told it would be good for her career to do this.

See, I think you've missed the mark on this one a little. It should be a naked photo of Bear Grylls drinking his own urine, with a caption of " I'd rather drink my own piss than wear fur". :) :)

I get the whole money=power thing, but power to do what? Power to put down over 80% of their rescues? Money to spend on advertising to show the world how fantastic they are?t

I don't actually think this is degrading to this particular woman. As someone mentioned earlier, this is a great career move for her, and she'll get a boat load of exposure.

I honestly don't see why anyone would pay money unless they already happened to be a PETA supporter.

You don't need to be some kind of porn addict to know that Google Images + SafeSearch Off + "Boobs" = heaving piles of porn. Free porn. Free porn that doesn't involve also having Ingrid Newkirk's lazy eye following you around the page from the top corner.

If anyone actually pays money to PETA for porn (as opposed to paying to help PETA), they're probably thick enough not to realise they're getting crappy value for money.

"Degrading" is a matter of personal taste. To one viewer, it might be degrading, to another, not at all. Undoubtedly there are women working in the industry who do it because their options are very limited but degradation, in my opinion, is something that comes from the viewer's reaction to the images, not simply as a byproduct of taking your clothes off for money.

Assuming that a sexual act is degrading because you (the viewer) feels the actress should feel degraded to have done it is expecting others to have the same ethics and limits as you.

There's a couple of really good interviews on the subject but probably not clean enough to post here :)

I'm not referring to the actual act being portrayed, but the circumstances surrounding the production. But I guess I'm going off topic and this picture isn't porn anyway it's just a nude.

The same could also be said for a lot of regular actors though. There are plenty of movies that make piles of money and the actors only see a tiny fraction of the profit. Also, I know this is quite an issue with musicians- record companies take a huge slice and shamelessly profit from the talent of their performers. The entertainment industry in general is set up in a manner that could easily be considered as being exploitative.

But anyway.. yeah, off topic.

Edit.. typos
