Rspca Manhunt After Dog Killing

A CATTLE dog dumped in a vacant lot and left to die in a pool of blood was probably the victim of a horrible beating.

So severe were the five-year-old dog's injuries that the vet who saw him knew straight away he had no choice but to put him down.

The RSPCA is desperate for help to track down whoever is responsible.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said an ambulance was called to Tivoli on Tuesday evening after a woman heard a dog yelping in pain.

“On the corner of Tivoli Hill Rd and Wyndham St, ambulance officer Jo Jordan found a blue black entire male Australian cattle dog lying in a pool of blood beside a creek bed with blood coming from his mouth and penis,” Mr Beatty said.

“The dog had no pain reflexes in his limbs, the pupils were pinpoint and not reacting to light.

At the time of being found, the dog was wrapped in a checked sheet and had a yellow squishy toy shaped like a block with him.

“The dog was brought back to the shelter and on the advice of the on-duty veterinarian was euthanized on humane grounds.”

He said the area where the dog was dumped was affected by the floods and many surrounding properties were still derelict.

“It appears it may have been the subject of a beating or possibly even hit by car and then someone has tried to kill the dog,” he said.

“Whatever the cause it is clear that someone took the dog to that area in the blanket.”

Mr Beatty said a post-mortem examination would be conducted on the dog today to determine the cause of his death.

The RSPCA said that after the cause of death was established, it would want to track down the dog's attacker.

Anyone with any information can call the RSPCA cruelty complaints hotline on 1300 852 188.
