Hi there, guys.

My next assignment in my Design course is to design an ad for a cause - and I've chosen pet shops and puppy farms. As well as designing the ad, I need to put together an essay with hard facts and statistics. So far in my internet searches I've found websites that explain why puppy farms are bad, but do not necessarily have any sources, cited facts or statistics. Are there any sites out there that supply no-frills information on the subject that is cited and reliable? If anybody has any links, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks everyone. :)

hiya mr mister!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puppy_mill

I typed in 'puppy farms' into google and went to the wikipedia site which is 'puppy mill' - if you scroll down to the bottom you will be hit with a lot of references that the people on wiki have used to cite the site (lol).

now I think there are a lot of American references but you may still be able to use some.

hope this helps :)

Another question - does anybody know the 'regulating' body of pet shops and puppy farms? Is it the PIAA? I'm not 100% sure so thought I would ask. It's very hard to search for something when you don't know its name.

PIAA can only "regulate" their members' pet shops... plenty of pet shops out there that aren't members of the PIAA... and the only thing the PIAA can really do to their members is revoke their memberships... *sigh*

Wouldn't they be regulated by Animal Welfare Acts, POCTAA, and various other state run government bodies like the DLG in NSW? Not to mention Fair Trading, etc...

Dare I say it.. Also try the RSPCA and Animal Welfare League up here in Qld. I remember AWL pushing to have compulsary desexing of all dogs and cats and other stuff before our Animal Management (Dogs and Cats) Act 2008 came in. There was also a big community input phase where DPI also were handling certain aspects.

They may have some information tht may be of assistance. Sorry do not have a website.

Do a search for the public consultation phase to that Legislation: It may point you in a diretion of who to contact.

Here is some things I found: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dlgp.qld.gov.au%2Fresources%2Fnewsletter%2Flgbulletin%2F2008%2F1608-consultation-animal-management-bill-2008.pdf&rct=j&q=animal%20management%20act%202008%20consultation&ei=CsXkTfSaCITcvwOs8bSTBw&usg=AFQjCNGlThmbMPmGTlA87WviXYqpctGp-A&cad=rja
