Hi all,

Just came across this company today. They are in Mulgrave, Victoria. George from Genetic Technolgies works there.

Main website: http://asaplab.com.au/

DNA testing site: http://asaplab.com.au/DNA.html

Has anyone used them? Their prices are MASSIVELY cheaper than Genetic Technologies.

First test $65.00, Additional Test $30.00

Maximum you ever pay is $135.00 per animal

(unlimited number of tests)

I've just used DDC Veterinary - ordered/paid for tests on line & kits arrived from the USA just over a week later. Saved a substantial amount in comparison to testing services offered in Australia and am so happy with the service and price have just ordered/paid for two more.

First batch was of 3 dogs & two tests each, second batch another two dogs and two tests each - for each dog the first test was $58 and the second test on the same dog only $20.00 - So a maximum of $78/dog.

I will be ordering some tests from this company. Genetic testing is so unreliable that I will not be sending any more tests to them. The other company mentioned using George here again unreliable from my experience.

A weeks turn around from the USA is excellent how did they arrive? Air mail or courier?

Thanks for posting the link.

Just turned up as a fat envelope in the letterbox, presumably airmail - has one of those US Postage>Pitney Bowes red ink stamps for $1.48 USD.

Pretty fast! :) ..TT

What's the saying, "if it sounds too good to be true then it usually is". Gave up waiting for my results submitted months ago, will pay the extra and go with a more reliable company. Great at talking the talk in emails but that is where it stops, should have known with the wait for the test kits, disappointing to say the least..

What a shame there is nothing from DDC Veterinary that is applicable to ACD's, and its a bit off putting to read that they have the Australian Labradoodle listed as a purebred dog :mad ...

What tests were you looking for rajacadoo? Notice they have ACD's listed with 4 coat colour & 2 genetic disease tests avail.

http://www.vetdnacenter.com/search-breed-result.php?breed=10

Seems they don't offer all tests on each breed, guess due to patent restrictions. Very much a pity as had to go elsewhere for one of ours and suffer the exorbitant (in comparison) cost. Sent off three weeks ago, still waiting for results... :coffee:

Just had a look at DCC's website. The prices are much cheaper than here, but I have a concern about the DNA profiling and verification, it says anybody can do a cheek swab, as they can but what about having it verified with a microchip and the authenticity of the results like we have authorised collectors here verify the dog is what the microchip is???

I hope soembody who has used then can answer this.

I was looking for PRA, as its the only DNA test we can do for the ACD's... I dont know anyone who does DNA testing on the coat colours that they offer the ACD's, not to say it might not happen, just I havent heard of it :)

Anyone can do them here as well, you don't have to be an authorised collector. (I have done this for colour testing for myself)

But if you get an authorised collector or a vet to collect the results are then certified.

Yes Sway, I am aware that is possible here, but if you look at the paperwork there is now where on it to have it certified by collecting and signing off from a vet or certified collector. I can't see the point in doing testing for DNA profiling if they can't be verified and certified.

Maybe there is additional paperwork that is not online that can be presented for certification??? Does anybody know the answer to my question that has used the company for testing?

As you're suggesting if the test results are to be recognised by the ANKC then positive identification of the dog would need to be done by an official - (DVM or authorised collector) - someone who would check the microchip and place/seal the swabs from the identified dog into a tamper-proof bag.) The kits supplied by DDC are not tamper-proof nor do they require the signature of a DVM, so in their current form they would not be suitable for certified results. Perhaps if your breed requires certified results this company would not be suitable, or, perhaps you could email them to inquire re other methods and certification?

I'm using this US based company for just two tests (DM & Coat length) however it is solely for my own information as there is no official requirement for testing in my breed. I had the vWD tests done here by Animal Network with dogs' microchips read/certified & DNA swabs taken, signed and sealed by a DVM so they can be officially recorded with the ANKC.

If you contact DDC by email they seem to respond almost immediately and appear to be very receptive and helpful. Might be worth checking them out yourself as they did say in their response to my first inquiry that they do a lot of testing for Australian based clients.

Hope this helps. TT

This is what they sent in reply to my email...

Thank you for your email and interest in our DNA testing services.

Yes, we can do business in Australia, no problem. It can take some time for kits to arrive but if you like you can also make up your own kits...

We normally provide free sample collection kits which include the swabs, instructions and order form. It is also possible for clients to make up their own kits using cotton or polyester based swabs and by following our sample collection procedure found here... http://www.vetdnacenter.com/files/Canine%20DNA%20Sample%20Collection.pdf

This is particularly useful for breeders or for international clients who may not have time to wait for the mail to arrive.

Please read and follow the instructions thoroughly to avoid contamination and to insure that we receive a quality DNA sample. It is also very important to place 4 swabs per dog in a properly labeled paper based envelope. AVOID storing or shipping them in any kind of plastic bags as this will promote mold and bacterial growth and therefore render them unusable.

Submit samples with this order form

http://www.vetdnacenter.com/files/dna-test-orderform.pdf

Once we receive the samples the results will be completed and emailed to you within 10 business days.

I'm glad to answer any additional questions you have.

Best wishes,

Randall Smith

Dogs Vic Canine Health Committee is looking into this issue, probably by providing a form that needs to be completed here in Oz signing off on the positive ID and independent collection and then accompanies the swabs to the testing laboratory. We have found DDC to be very cooperative. This will need to be organised on a national basis, so may take some time

I am at the laundramat so I cannot look, but I am pretty sure the new paperwork from Animal Network requires a signature.

Will check when I get home.

Both the old and new forms required a signature from a vet or an authorised collector if you wanted certified results.

The lot I had previous to this lot did not requirea signature which I thought funny.

They have also jsut rearranged the layout of the current batch a bit.
