There are a few good vets up that way, but I'm not really prepared to have my pups away from milkbar for 3+ hours at this stage. (The mum is not a 'great' mum and would not feed them in the car or out of home, no doubts about it.) Persp - yes, he does have lumps around his eyes. His right eye has had a couple of lumps for a while. His left eye got two lumps that came and then went. LizT - neither puppy should be at risk of either condition (mange or strangles). The vet was concerned about the eye infection that both Napoleon and his sister had spreading to my healthy border terrier pup, but it didn't happen. (Really, my border terrier puppy is very fat, robust, and tank-like. Only just learning to walk and get her lard arse off the ground!) If he does have strangles, I'd rather put him on steroids now and have him isolated, and ready to get out and about at 6-8 weeks than having him quarantined during his critical socialisation period. Considering the questionable temperament of these puppies' mother, I am very concerned about compromising the socialisation of the two puppies. ETA: I have booked Napoleon into a skin specialist on Wednesday. You can see his chin area is going quite bald now, and there are a number of these 'pimples' on the underside of his muzzle, too. This picture shows the scab-like bumps on his leg. These kind of remind me of the callouses old dogs get where they lay?? There is also an arrow pointing to the balding on his right foot. persephone Posted November 14, 2011 Share Posted November 14, 2011 Leema .. just remember , that for there to be pustules and loss of hair apparent to us on the outside- there are lots of really nasty things happening to be killing of skin/hair etc on the inside I really hope you get a vet who takes this seriously.... Leema Posted November 15, 2011 Author Share Posted November 15, 2011 This boy's skin is looking a bit better today. His little pimples aren't as raised, but he now has bald spots where they were. He also seems to be going bald on his knees, too - but at least the pimples seems to be subsiding. Still have the specialist to consult with tomorrow, so we'll see what he has to say tomorrow. He has concluded that Napoleon has a skin infection and the raised bumps on his muzzle were caused by folliculitis. The oral anitbiotics (which has been on for 2 days) have diminished this infection's appearance. However, he'll still continue to go bald as much of his hair will be damaged already by the infection. The specialist suggested that the skin infection may have been associated with his eye infection. i.e. The eye infection moved to his skin. He is to continue on antibiotics for 7 more days, and I've also been given a anti-bacterial shampoo to use on him once or twice a week. Thank-you for all concerned DOLers. I have honestly said in their medical notes that we are unsure of the long-term health of these puppies - but I very much hope we have now passed the worst, and all adversities are in the past and families just have happy healthy puppies to look forward to.
