Hi everyone, hope someone here can help. I have some friends in Townsville area who are having some problems with their 9 month old desexed Rhodesian Ridgeback boy. Nothing really awful, but he is a big strong dog, and displaying the usual challenging 'teenage' dog behaviours which they'd like more help with. They've suggested they'd contact BarkBusters to help them. Now, I'm not really sure about BarkBusters methods, so anyone with experience please feel free to shed some light on how BB manage the training, I'm happy to hear pros or cons. I was also wondering if anyone here could help with some alternative suggestions, perhaps of other well regarded trainers or dog behaviourists in that area? Many thanks all :)

Puppiluv I believe Barkbusters are a franchise, so the quality will vary from person to person. But from the couple of people I've spoken to that have used them, their main strategy is to throw a chain on the ground and yell "bah!" when a dog does something you don't like. I understand they are also focussed on dominance theory.

BB have been discussed in here before, something should pop up if you do a search. They aren't a training option I would use personally but I'm afraid I don't know of any trainers in Qld to offer alternatives. Hopefully someone else will though :)

Having used Bark Busters, I found decisions on my dogs behaviour were made too easily and the training programm I was given was basically yank my lead and call out BAH. I only tried Bark Busters out of desperation as I couldn't find any local behaviourists who had a good reputation/recommendations. They do offer a free lifetime garentee so if you tried them and did get someone who knows there stuff then you always have someone you can contact if any other issues were to arise.
