Vaccine-induced Distemper

 Share

Recommended Posts

Never heard of a case of it in dogs... I have heard about it in ferrets who use the canine vaccine but off label usage and there is the minute chance they will get it as we use live modified vaccines that aren't designed for their species. I suppose it would be possible in immuno-compromised animals but I've never heard of it happening.

are you sure the dog already didn't have distemper before vaccination?

There are these to read, contact the vaccine manufacturer ASAP if you are finding problems

It is not common, it seems to be more of a problem in other species such as ferrets/pandas/wild dogs then domestic canines

Yes, I have a dog who has been diagnosed with this. She has had a cerebrospinal fluid analysis done and it has has been confirmed, the condition is extremely rare, however, that doesn't help when it's happened to your baby.

I'm currently doing a lot of research on it, the company that makes the vaccine that was used guarantee it or they will pay the vet bills up to $2,500 and if the dog dies they give you $1,000 to buy another one - it's an absolute disgrace, do they not realise they are not disposable objects :-( But of course it's so rare they can afford to pay out now and again, in the meantime my poor baby has a death sentence.
