My border terrier bitch, Clover, has been confirmed pregnant by ultrasound. Seemingly, SIX puppies! We are stoked. We had a disappointing (though not disastrous) singleton litter from Clover last year, and having six puppies is just a magnificent thought.

Her due date is 10th of November. :)

We have just mated our bitch yesterday. She will have another mating all going to plan and come home tommorrow. Tis is our first litter and we are all nervous but have a fantastic breeder of our bitch the stud dog owner and also another jack specialist who are absolute darlings. Of course it will all have to be confirmed but i have already downloaded a pregnancy calandar so we can see thngs like when the ears develop etc. so the anxious wait begins. We have showed traned and trialled dogs for over 20 yrs but our first time breeding cant wait to watch the development

Well I'm out :(

Got confirmation today that my girl absorbed her pups.

She had discharge a few weeks ago and was put on antibiotics but I'm guessing the puppies were affected before the antibiotics kicked in.

Need to keep an eye on her now and watch out for pyo as 1 sack still hasn't been totally absorbed.

Very disappointing at my first attempt of a breeding :( :( :(

So sorry 3woofs :(

Good news from me tonight - Jazz is definitely pregnant. 2 pups seen on ultrasound, hoping there are another couple hiding away but my vet is usually fairly accurate with the count. A bit of a surprise as she appears to be quite large already. Her size is comparable to last time when she carried 9.

We saw 2 on first U/S, she whelped 8!!

These are things I want to hear, LOL. I dont want to get my hopes up for more but seriously she looks like she has more and my gut instinct says there is more. I have seen bitches with 2 almost ready for whelping that barely look pregnant, she is already obviously pregnant. The other part of me says be realistic - they are a repor clinic and do heaps of these and normally quite accurate with their count.

You can cross us off the list :( Next time...

Oh Sam, Im soooo sorry...

I know how much you were looking forward to having babies from these 2 wonderful dogs  ...

Puppies in 2013 sounds good though :) ...

Thanks Raj. It was very disappointing but we will try again next year. Can't say I'm looking forward to having a winter litter though.

I had Ava ultrasound on Day 21, vet could barely see 2

Took her back a week later and he counter 9

Fingers crossed for you Piper :)

I am liking these stories. This was day 26 from first mating though and they were very obvious, even to me.

I have decided to see how she goes and probably x-ray in the last week to check size. When she had her 9 they were all good size puppies even for a litter half that size with an average weight of 360grams and the largest well over 400 so I am worried that if there are only 2 they could end up huge.

I have found around day 35 for the ultrasound to give a more accurate count. Before that, some seem to hide. Our vets are usually never out by more than one with the ultrasound done later around 5-6 weeks so never need to do x-rays to count them. Otherwise ultrasound in the final days and see the positions as well.

Our vet likes to do between day 23 and 28. I went for day 26/27 from first mating but did wonder if another couple of days might have been better but I figured I would go with what the repro specialist clinic would recommend.

Right now she is keeping me guessing. She has gone from looking very pregnant to not pregnant back to very pregnant. A couple of days ago she suddenly developed a waist again and I suspected maybe she was absorbing but then yesterday it had disappeared again. Although I did start to wonder was it more that her rib cage sprung rather than her waist shrunk?

With the possibility of just two I would probably forgo the x-ray and ultrasound in the last day or so to find out what size they are and what position they are in. When my girl had three enormous puppies I was well prepared for the first one to be a whopper and breech because we had ultrasounded the day before. What I wasn't expecting was that he would be upside down which made getting him out "interesting" but not as bad as it would have been if I wasn't expecting possible trouble.
