What Is Your Fondest Doggy Memory

The gentle hand holding must be a wolfhound thing. My Wolfhound cross Pippa would do this with some people. She would greet visitors at the gate and escort them to the front door and keep an eye on them when i opened the door.My Hubbys father was visiting a house once and was met by a large Wolfhound who took him gently by the arm and led him to the door.He was most impressed with the dog and often told the story of the day he met a Wolfhound.

Awwwww :)

Kieran always did it very deferentially ..it was certainly not a "yes! Come with me now!" - it was almost as if he had finally found a way to breach the communication barrier, and was just SO pleased that he could do so :)

My newest fav memory,

After losing our Sami the kids were heartbroken, didn't sleep because Sami wasn't there to chase the monsters out etc, so anyway after a while we got Diva and said her mummy and daddy (my twins are 4) had sent Diva up here to have a nice holiday. That way if Diva hated being here we had an out with the kids if she had to go back to Sandra. enough background.

it's been a couple of months now and this last tuesday week we were all down the park (not dog park) on the beach place was empty so Diva was offlead and having a ball. A lady comes along so I call Diva back and she stops to say hello to us all.

Jack tells her that "Diva is our dog she's a girl and has boobies, but she is a superhero and she sleeps on my bed and is at my house for ever and ever and ever " He then proceeded to point out said boobies.

Not only am I thrilled to bits the kids loves Diva and she's happy here, but Jack spoke a long sentence to a perfect stranger, he is shy. Probably doesn't sound like much but wow it's huge.

I think mine would have to be the day that I first dislocated my knee cap. I was lying on the ground, 30 k's out of town by myself, screaming bloody murder and my then fairly young Wei puppy (probably around 4-6 months) was obviously very upset by my rolling around on the ground screaming and swearing whilst trying to relocate my knee cap so I could get up.

So, not knowing what else to do, she helpfully climbed on my back and howled and yodelled with me and kept trying to lick my face to make it better... Needless to say, I eventually got over it, popped my knee cap back in and gimped into the house with the aid for my small, excitable, tripping hazard of a puppy. Eventually I got to the phone and called my OH to come get me and take me to the hospital for some really good drugs....

It was extremely endearing to see how worried she was about me and seeing her try and help but thank Goodness the second time I popped that same knee cap out Foxy had had a lot more training and stayed when told instead of sitting on me as by that stage she was well over 20 kg lol

I think I had my fondest memory..yesterday. It was early and I was sitting on the settee talking to my mum. Next to the settee is a recliner, positioned next to our front sliding door window, which I usually sit in of an evening (OH hogs the settee). Anyway, as I'm talking away, my little girl jumps on to the recliner (never seen her do that before) and puts both paws up on the arm rest and rests her little head on her paws and looks out the front window. Sat there for ages. I thought to myself, how many times has she sat there, when we're not home..watching out for me/for the world? She looked so adorable and so intent of purpose..warmed every part of my heart. I know, probably nothing to anyone else, but I guess our memories are all uniquely special to us.

Oh gosh..I have just so very many ........

One that sprang to mind was of my absolutely gorgeous Kieran ..who was a 'pig dog'..daneXdeerhoundX ? 42 kg.scruffer. He was fascinated by rabbits ..and one day caught one . he brought it to me ..must have shifted his grip ...rabbit squealed, Kieran dropped it , and then ran to hide behind my legs!!! :D It was so funny .

Kieran is also the only dog I've had who slept on my bed ....but not all the time , and mostly in Winter, where he would lie along my back ..and provide a wonderful warm comfort if I was feeling not the best .

I also remember walking kieran thru a crowded mall ..and he was feeling very mellow and happy, so he gently took a lady by the hand and walked along with her - tail wagging happily ...funny thing was, the lady did not appreciate it .At all :o He used to often walk me like this ..ever so gently....

that gentleness must be a big part of the pig dog.. my Morris ( AKA glossy morrie) who was bred as a pigger but his idea of pig was "roasted thankyou with lightly steamed snowpeas".. had that oh so gentle taking of the hand. he loved meeting and greeting people and would put on what he thought was his most endearing expression ,which my son referred to as a look like a shoebox with teeth, Morris would get most upset when people would be scared of him.

he would collect the eggs from under the hens and gently bring them inside and place on the sofa..

he ruined me for small dogs and taught me an utter adoration and appreciation of dog as dog..in all its natural glory. Thankyou Morris.

H

We had an Oscar and used to take him to obedience demonstrations. One part of the demonstration was to put the dogs in a stay and invite the public to come and pat them, Oscar would have a flick of kids round him and he'd be loving it.

My other memory of him was again at another demonstration at one of the first RSPCA walks. There was the prizes and completions after wards. My daughter was only just starting to stand at that stage and they had a best owner and dog lookalike competition. I put Oscar in a sit (so he towered over her) and stood my daughter up beside him holding his lead. The crowd loved them and they won.

Oscar was my Hubbies first dog and I used to run into a few problems with him, about being the dominant one in the family. But he is serverly missed and quite often thought of.

I am in a fantastic mood right now, probably something to do with the fact that my bf and I are chillin out having a quiet drink at home :) yup thats it I am such the romantic he has gone to all this trouble to make it all perfect and I pull up DOL

He is reading this as I type pissing him self laughing.

I think my fondest doggy memory would have to be when I was little our Heinz Cooper found a kitten in our front yard and bought it into the house by the scruff of the neck and started playing with it on our loungeroom floor like it was his own "puppy" haha....... it was the strangest thing I had ever seen, I was only 5 at the time we checked to see if she belonged to anyone and nobody replied ( back them there was no microchipping) so we kept her and she lived to a ripe old age of 18years RIP Hobo ( affectionately called by my father haha because she had no home )

Wow! I had something very similar happen to me. I was home alone sitting on the back verandah and suddenly Rebel jumped up and ran out into the back yard, and started sniffing a little tabby kitten that just appeared from nowhere. We were allowed to keep it and named him Puddy (pron Poody, like woody), he too lived to a ripe old age.

Some of my happiest dog memories would probably be when I used to ride my mare into the bush with my whippets trotting along side. Camping adventures with horses and dogs was pretty good too, as well as beach days.

I have quite a few, but one springs to mind was my naughty Weimaraner stealing a Krispy Kreme Doughnut straight out of the box, but because she was a 'good girl' and wasn't allowed to eat it inside was waiting patiently at the back door to be let out to enjoy her reward (nevermind the fact she had stolen it)

One of my happiest memories with esky is the first time we went sled racing. It was our turn to run the timer was counting down and with about fifteen seconds to spare decided to sit on the line. Great i thought we're going to fail. When the beep went she stood up and started pulling like a maniac. Pure instinct. It was amazing

Mine with my silky terrier is when i would pick her up in my arms like a baby and she would give a massive sigh and so contently snuggle into my arms. Another would be when she got into a box of weetbix, when she heard me arrive home and pretended she had nothing to do with it which i belived her (i blamed the other dog), untill she started pawing at her mouth and i checked her and she had the roof of her mouth thick with weetbix.

My pom it would have to be when she would get really excited and happy she would run around like a froot loop with a massive grin on her face. Although one time when doing loops at the park she thought the pond covered in grass like weeds was just grass and ran straight into it going completley under the water, the suprised look on her face was priceless

I miss them both so much :(

One of my fondest memories is when I picked Saxon up to bring him home. He was tiny, about 1kg, but a confident little fellow in the breeder's house with his mum and littermates and happily left the house in my arms with not a whimper.

I put him in the carrier on the passenger seat - all fine - but by the time I walked around the car and got into the drivers seat he was shaking like a leaf and clearly terrified at suddenly being away from everything he knew. I picked him up and cuddled him under my chin for a while until he calmed down. He was my first ever puppy and that moment was when I realised how dependent this little creature was on me and what a huge responsibility I had to do the right thing by him, having made the choice to bring him into my life with him having no say. 3 years on and I think I've done ok by him :)

One of mine would be when my brother was in the Forces he had to live overseas for a year (it turned into 3), we looked after their family dog Bunji. I will never forget when they arrived at our place when they got back, they were dying to see him and the way Bunji greeted them brought tears to everyones eyes. The love they all had for each other was beautiful, it was hard to give him back but I also knew the bond they had.

I have a 14 yr old Dobie who doesn't do much of anything these days and will be given her wings soon.

So many fond memories!

She was raised as part of the family with my kids, now all grown.

Seeing her sitting in the lounge watching puppet shows the kids would put on for her.(then stealing the puppets to play with herself )

Kids ignoring her efforts to play with the squeaky toy,so would hold it up against their ears and squeak it.

Kids getting into "her" bed so would cover them with her blanket.

The "Demos" we would do before teen partys just to be sure the kids recognised she was a guardian breed so not to take liberties( Tell her to "get" my son,who would be on the other side of the kitchen table. She would be growling and barking, chasing him 'round and 'round the table looking quite fierce till some one piped up and said"Oh! what will she do if she gets him" He would stop and the kids saw that she just poked him to try and get him to run some more.

The games of hide and seek, standing by my side grumbling at the kids if they did'nt stop what they'd been told.Trying to answer the ringing phone,Her "Oh No!" she came out with one day when we arrived home and said "no bone today".

Her controll in very rough and tumble games. she was allowed to grab clothing when it was old enough to not matter and it was funny watching the youngest try to keep his pants on.

The boy running with Lou after him,he runs behind a chair in the corner and pulls it after him to block her and says,"HaHa,You can't get me!" and for the first time ever, she leaps on to the chair and launches herself over.Got him!

Lou is all fond memories. She has been one of those perfect dogs.
