Just a question, do pounds normally allow dogs that are so riddled with illness to be adopted out?

I don't know much about the pound system but shame on them if they allowed an elderly ill dog to go through that in the same token I thought they were good at euthing the sick old ones pretty quick?

Please dont take offence I am genuinely curious.

Sally wasn't in a pound. She was in a private no kill shelter that apparently charges a reasonably big surrender fee & proudly claims ' that we do guarantee your pet a good home no matter how long it takes, without resulting in euthanasia' I'm not here to scrutinise the conduct of the shelter so please can I ask that this thread doesn't turn in to a protracted debate on the ethics of such things.

Many pounds do release old & sick dogs to rescue though. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

I am sad that Sally didn't have longer with you, but very happy and grateful that she had someone like you at the end of her life. It is a tough call and one I had to make a couple of years ago with a little elderly dog I rescued. This forum was very supportive and helped to ease the pain and guilt I felt at the time.

That is correct. With Renbury for instance, you will sometimes see against a dog: Reclaim or Rescue only.

There are also rescue groups which specialise in the oldies. And before I called it quits, I used to take on an oldie here and there just to give them a decent life for whatever time they had left.

Run free Sally... may you live long in the hearts of those who met you...

Big hugs and kudos to you crickets for being the one to give Sally the dignified send off she deserved.

T.

I am sorry to hear about Sally but thank you for your care, love and attention for her. I am really pleased that her last days were with someone who loved her and understood skyes.

Bobby looks great in the photos and I think DeeDee is in lurv ... :)

MOAR PHOTOS!

we are slothing this morning , Monday being my Sunday......

(please excuse the disgusting floor. That is exactly what it looked like when I pulled up the even grottier carpet. The stains aren't fresh! Now that settlement has happened (last Monday :) ) it's all mine and now I can decide what to do with the hideous floors!)

This is O/T but the floors in our bedrooms looked like that when we pulled up the disgusting carpet so we painted them, put down colourful mats (from Loot) and they look great now.

We painted them cream so they don't show the dog hair but do show up doggie muddy paw-prints.

Google 'painted floors'

funny you should say that Boronia. The 2 front rooms have the old boards but the rest of the house has concrete floors. I have resolved to paint the concrete floors. I have a concrete specialist friend of a friend coming over this arvo to discuss some potential issues with that. I may have to opt for tiling instead. But I think I will paint the boards but how do you deal with the little gaps between them?? Do you just fill them up with paint?

PS... Does anyone think I'm completely nuts for wanting to do all my floors.......RED! ?

I filled the cracks up with paint.

A vote for tiles here but make sure they're non-slip. The tap tap tap of doggy nails on floorboards drove me crazy. Tiles are a good doggy compromise and you can put down funky rugs.

I've just read the whole of this thread from start to finish and I'm so glad there was a happy ending to the story, even if Sally wasn't with you, Crickets as long as you hoped for; both the dogs having a chance with you is a nice ending to this thread.
