Excellent article summarising a new paper published in Nature today whose authors think they have found a link between starch metabolism and domestication in dogs.

Love the comment by Robert Wayne:

Nevertheless, the study adds to evidence that dogs should not eat the same food as wolves, says Wayne, who points out that dog food is rich in carbohydrates and low in protein compared with plain meat. “Every day I get an email from a dog owner who asks, should they feed their dog like a wolf," says Wayne. "I think this paper answers that question: no.”

Interesting! I've generally gone along with the natural-diet way of thinking based on biochemistry being quite slow to evolve (although in practice our dogs often get a bit of whatever we're having :o). What a great study.
