Time to give this thread a bit of a bump :)

These are both shots I've put in the 52 weeks thread, but thought it would be nice to see what other bird shots anyone else has got recently. Also if I get my paws on the new Tamron 150-600mm, I expect a lot of my subjects will be birds :)

The Tamron 150-600 is getting mixed reviews CC... may I recommend the Canon 100-400 L instead?

I've seen some pretty awesome shots from the 150-600mm lens, I think a lot of it is knowing how to get your exposure right and how to handle a lens of that focal length. I fully expect to bin most shots at 600mm when I first start using it  Also I will be shooting wild birds and 400mm is too short for a 'birding' lens :)

100-400mm is fine for birding when you've got it mounted on a crop sensor camera... lol! I get the equivalent of 640mm reach out of mine mounted on the 60D... *grin*

There are some very nice shots coming out of the 150-600mm - but there are also a lot of people who seem to have gotten a dud copy so far...

Unfortunately it's not - try shooting a small flighty bird in the wild with a 400mm, even on a crop you just don't have the reach.
