Opinions On Rspca

I have dealt with RSPCA many times in regards to cruelty cases and this doesnt sound right to me. In Victoria, my understanding is that if an owner tells the inspector that the anmal is under veterinary care, they will confirm this with the vet and follow up to ensure that appointments have been kept and treatment plans followed.

I admire the work of the inspectorate but think their shelters could do much better in terms of re-homing, etc.

Well there are lots of reports that this doesn't always happen and the point for me is that if it didnt happen there is little anyone could do about it.

There may well be more to this story that is being told but it would not surprise me if there is not. It sounds typical of my experience with the rspca. Target the easy target and play the political game but let's not do anything about the genuine cases of cruelty.

I'd like to know how the person in this case managed to nark off a ranger so much that they called the RSPCA on her and got it to stick...

T.

There were two occasions in which my friend had the same discussion with both the ranger and the RSPCA inspector and both times the ranger became quite angry as well as the inspector. I was present on the 2nd occasion when the ranger & the inspector insisted the blind husky should have been put to sleep; I am not exaggerating when I say the local ranger was shouting; this took place a fair while ago. Recently my friend was out shopping when the ranger and the inspector walked into the backyard upon realising they had access and also heard the dogs bark. They turned up again a few days later with a compliance note giving my friend 6 or 7 days to address the issues previously mentioned. Meanwhile my friend had made an appointment for the vet to come to the home to view the dogs especially in relation their teeth and book them in for treatment. My friend had kept in touch with the RSPCA inspector and told her of what was transpiring, there was never any suspicion that the inspector was secretly conspiring to have the dogs seized!

But what brought your neighbour to their attention in the first place?

It's not usual practice for Council and RSPCA rangers to wander around looking for something to do, and then just decide to pick on some little old ladies' dogs for no reason...

It's almost impossible to get an RSPCA ranger to attend anything where I live... not even a life or death matter...

My friend is middle aged but not exactly little or old, lol. The ranger makes it a point of going from house to house checking out that all dogs are registered. When I say 'ranger' I mean the shire ranger.

The OP asks for a general opinion of the 'RSPCA'. Only to be told that there are different policies in different states. Then cites a particular case.... that appears to be in Victoria. One that happened to a neighbour so the information which even tho' seeming detailed, is coming second-hand. And from one side only of the dispute.

Lord knows how it's expected that the case would be judicially reviewed on an internet forum. But, if the neighbour believes the decisions by RSPCA Victoria were unfair or unjust, good advice has been given about checking with a solicitor who specialises in animal law cases.

If the case were Qld.... which it's not... the avenues for appeal are written into the law under which RSPCA Qld operates. There's an independent civil & administrative review tribunal... even cites animal management issues top of its list of matters handled (probably the luck of the draw).

Mention tail docking and they will be there before the phone is put down.

ETA and no I am not trying to bring up that topic again.

Detailed report from the vet, legal advice.

Personally I think the RSPCA are a bunch of egotistical greedy arseholes. There are some wonderful people within the organisation but as a whole nope.

We are hearing a one sided, secondhand story. They way I see there are three sides to every story, yours, theirs, and somewhere in the middle the truth.

I also wonder about the if there is smoke there is fire saying.......

All my "opinions" have been deleted. I have left my original comment. If those who have quoted them could also delete I would appreciate it.

I agree, there are two sides to every story but I can assure you what you are hearing is exactly what has happened; personally I don't see the point of asking advice based on a lie and that is why I'm here :)
