Have PM'd Mita but thought perhaps someone might know of someone after a Tibbie or two. Her Majesty Dogmad Posted May 1, 2014 Share Posted May 1, 2014 I just followed the link and looked through the page - I didn't realise the Lost Dogs Home had pulled out of there and it is now run by the council - letter states that rehoming rates have improved since the LDH left, no surprises there ... The old manager (LDH employee) did work with rescue, in fact more rare breeds she contacted breed rescue groups personally. Rehoming rates have always been strong. I'd suggest that that letter has been supplied by council. Nobody wanted council to take over the reins, the whole thing has been a bun fight. The shelter has an awesome volunteer group. Sad they had to be split up, but good for Bobo he has a home. It's probably way out of her area, but I'll let Denise at PAWS know. If anyone can find pic & description of Merlin, much appreciated. If Merlin is 9 yrs old, that's still middle age for tibbies. They tend to hold their age well. I've got a 13 yr old who's as agile & healthy as ever. Quite a few of us have tibbies in the older age groups. My girls stay at a kennels where one 'boarder' is a 22 yr old tibbie. That one happily potters around with the other tibbies. Also many thanks for speaking the truth about previous employees (and manager which was me!). That place was my life for the past 9 years and I did everything in my power to make it as successful as possible given the location and facilities. I was extremely proud of the way it was run to strict minimal euthanasia policies (which definitely included breed rescue, as like Clyde pointed out, I would personably contact and arrange it myself!) And yes, the Shelter would be lost without the Friends of The Wingecarribee Animal Shelter - there work always was, and I imagine still is, incredible! Yup, I know Maremmas who have you to thank for their awesome homes. :) You also did a terrific job with them while they were in the shelter. For the breed, they were very well exposed to things by the time they came here. It really helped to match them to the right homes accordingly. Plus having them in foster care helped expose them to a wide variety of stock and socialise them with family life - thus giving them more options as to potential homes and less likely to boomerang. I see one of them a fair bit still and she still adores children, her owner said she gets particularly excited about little girls. :) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
