Pharaoh Hound Looking For New Home

Recommended Posts

"Rocco" is a nearly four year old male, desexed Pharaoh Hound. He has always been a house pet and is fully housetrained, happy, gentle and safe with cats. He gets on well with other dogs but true to his sighthound heritage he prefers running games to wrestling ones.

He loves children but is a gentle boy who doesn't enjoy rough play so will be best suited to living with kids around 10 years old and up.

Rocco is quick minded and agile and needs routine and activity to keep his busy mind and body active. He is currently in foster care and happily indoors both overnight and during the workday, provided he gets attention, activity and exercise morning and night.

He has lovely house manners, but is a busy boy so best settled when he has his own crate indoors for rest times. He will become bored if left alone in a cold backyard and may bark to entertain himself. So he is not suited to that lifestyle.

He will be seeking a home where he can be genuinely part of a family, whether that family is one person or many. He thrives off being a part of everything and learning new things. He is well and truly an indoor dog and will not be adopted to an outside-dog home.

Rocco is new into foster care after his previous family had changes in their circumstances that meant they didn't have the time for him that he so craves. He has been one of the most joyful and easily integrated foster dogs we have ever had the pleasure to welcome into our home. He will no doubt bring much love and joy to his new permanent owners when he finds them.

He will be available for adoption after his vet clearance, in late May. Enquiries are welcome.

Edit to add photo. :D

He is gorgeous! A few months earlier and my work colleague would have snapped him up! But she has a baby Ibizan keeping her busy now. I will keep him in mind if I hear of anyone looking for a Pharoah.

Wish there was some way to bring Rocco to the notice of Maltese-Australians. He's a beautiful example of a Pharaoh Hound ... the new name given by British Kennel Club to 6 dogs imported from Malta, original breed name Kelb tal-Fenek ('Rabbit Hound'). It's the national dog of Malta & is on the stamps and coins.

Maybe he could be listed here if the site owners agreed?
