Scrotum Rub?

So.. uhh I've never owned intact males before..

It seems that when my boy runs his balls might be chafing him.

One of his inner thighs is missing hair and is a bit red..

Is that normal, and should I do something?

I'd hate to think that was causing him any discomfort..

What an awkward topic, sorry

I doubt it would be chaffing. More likely to be that he has chewed there. It seems to be a spot that is prone to itching. If the skin isn't really broken, dab some apple cider vinegar on the area to stop the itch and check his feet, legs and underarms for any other red spots lurking under the denser coat, possibly from a contact allergy. Also check for fleas.

Not really. It's a part of having a working intact male. Same for a gun dog.

Yes, they do chaff. Fact of anatomy.

You can try vaseline before he goes off to race/training. Smear the area thoroughly. Only thing is post-training, racing, you might feel like wiping him clean. The skin there does get irritated.

There is anothe product called Bag Balm ( shall not describe that further *winks*.)

Do you belong to any Sled club? Someone there could have more info. There are some horse products that could be used. But I am not current with their safety.

Make sure it is in fact chaffing and no other reason.

:)

For racing colts & stallions we use vaseline or baby oil. For an individual who is big, has ability but is not well bred enough for the breeding barn, we use the snip :D

Giggles... You sound like Thomas, my Grandfather. Not good to use, have the snip for any animals.

Erm...

there was an episode of the checkout that got into anti chafing products for triathletes... apparently there are different prices depending whether it's for "men" or for "women"...

Mostly I wear bike pants / knee length lycra...

Not sure how you'd get that on a dog.

John Bertrand (skipper of Aus II) when he was training for a dinghy sailing championship - used metho to harden up his skin... those were the days...
