Stilboestrol Medication Downside

 Share

Recommended Posts

The vet put Penny (16) on Stilboestrol for urine incontinence. First week 1 tablet daily then twice weekly afterwards, it has been working really well...no more wee while she is sleeping.

I had noticed that Mac (15) was more interested in both Penny and Daisy the last couple of days but this morning the place is Retirement Home Bedlam.

I have needed to keep Mac outside (he is currently frantically trying to slide the big glass door open) as he is jumping Penny who doesn't mind the overtures, in fact she is doing little flirty dances.

I phoned the vet at 8.00, she said to give Penny just one tablet weekly, the vet also kept laughing and said something along the lines of Viagra in the old peoples home.

So, just a heads up for any DOLer who has a bitch on Stilboestrol and also has a dog.

My sympathies go out to breeders who have a dog as well as a bitch 'in season'

 Totally! It's quite the spectacle. lol

We've got an ancient girl who went around enthusiastically humping everyone. Male, female... it didn't matter. Thank goodness you don't need to keep them on that daily dose for too long.

I gave Stiboestrol a miss and decided to try corn silk capsules for my old girl. They work a charm and the boy shows no interest.

Now that everything has settled down I find it funny also (apart from having to carry a randy-Mac outside to the veranda and having Penny behaving like a tart at 4.15 this morning)

Mac is still peering hopefully through the lounge-room sliding glass door so Penny must smell pretty good

Where did you get the corn silk tablets from cavNrot?

Boronia I can't remember when I got them from. I think they were from Biovea but not absolutely sure. I bought ten bottles so it was ages ago. Google Corn Silk Capsules and you'll probably get heaps of info. When my supply is running low I'll be doing the same.

  • 9 months later...

I've just started my senior Cav spay on this and am wondering how long before the night-time incontinence stops. The getting up in the middle of the night to let her out to pee isn't bothering me, it's the chasing around the yard of the 14 year old cattle dog that is - he wants to stay out!

I haven't seen any Viagra like symptoms (yet?) but the second night she was on it there was only a little dampness and all nice and dry every night since! I've started her on the twice a week dose now so fingers crossed that it is enough to keep her right.

Poppy is having some issues but at this stage it is only once every couple of weeks and is just little drops of wee. Happens mainly in the evening, when I put them out for their night time wee she will drip to the door!

I haven't noticed any overnight wee issues.

I did get some cornsilk but not sure if I should start her on it or other medication yet. Thoughts?

Can't hurt to try the cornsilk for a few weeks and see what difference (if any) it makes. Given it is only drips. My girl was having major flooding episodes so she went on drugs and cornsilk. So I have no idea what actually helped more (but I suspect the drugs had a lot to do with the solution).
