I shuddered to see so many large breeds including a Great Dane in with a small dog. Owning Danes myself I know that in a moment of excitement or just being away with the fairies a Dane can accidentally stand or run over the top of or land on a small dog.

From the x-rays it's clear that something more serious happened to this poor dog, it looks consistent with a pick up crunch/shake attack.

Given so many average pet owners think dog parks are great for socialisation and great for the dog it's not surprising that so many people think free range centres such are ok, that's why these centres need to have experienced people to make these places as safe as possible and that would be not be mixing big and small dogs to start with.

People have spoken of many attacks between dogs due to mis-match personalities, mis-interpreted initial assessments etc.

If this was this centres only mistake then one could chalk it up to a really sad and unfortunate situation, however there are numerous stories online about this centre. Many stories of mis-management of dogs but more sadly a complete lack of care factor when something has gone wrong with people told "Shit happens" when their dogs come back skinny with Kennel Cough.

After-all, this is the centre where Fansu the Bulldog went missing from and was found 6 weeks later requiring surgery from injuries probably received from being hit by a car....this centre didn't contribute towards those costs.

I do feel for Dave, he looked very strained on the news last night and he must be having a very hard time but in the end he needs to step up and take responsibility for the incidents that have occurred at his centre and really start to make changes so these incidents can be minimised in the future.

People will always use such places because willful ignorance is rife and sometimes people are left with little options of safe day care facilities.

I think it is also important to consider this from a different angle. The larger dog owners are also victims. I'm sure most people don't want their larger dog to hurt, much less kill, another dog. They must be feeling awful atm too. The owners of the care establishment were negligent.

ETA Sorry Sas we posted at the same time.

I doubt they even know, the Centre has provided more than one different story on this.

That is the other factor that would concern me, I would want the owners of the dog/s who caused the death to know. it may have been accidental, though from the injuries on the x-ray it seems more likely that Wags was attacked. If I owned a dog that attacked and killed another dog I would need to know about it.

Absolutely so that it couldn't happen again. Maybe, with the numbers involved and apparent lack of supervision they don't actually know how/who started it.

There is no doubt that Wags suffered horribly and this is what sickens me to the core and also that they tried to cover it up.

Farmer Dave SHOULD be feeling very uncomfortable but who knows, he didn't appear to give a crap after it happened. Now the business is in the spotlight, well.

I noticed on their FB page that just this morning they posted photos of 15+ dogs running together, though their public statement said they don't run more than 5 dogs together at a time. It seems like they aren't learning from the incident with Wags :(

I'm sorry that is not what I intended.

None of the possibilities sound good :(

Whether they weren't supervising and didn't see what happened, or they saw what happened and are covering it up.

I've worked at a dog daycare where there were up to 45 dogs in one building (3 separate areas), it could get pretty crazy, and I found it quite stressful at times.

I know people in Brisbane whose Tibbie was killed when in a boarding facility. He was in a separate pen but a bigger, agile dog in the next pen climbed the chain-wire 6 ft fencing. No denial in that case but grief & horror all round.

Seriously?!!

So arrogant.

If he had all the knowledge he claims to have, he wouldn't be trying to sell the idea that running 15 together is anything other than dangerous and stupid. If he has the solution to 100% avoiding large pack fights and dog attacks (and how to break them up safely) I'd be staggered because AFAIK nobody has worked that out. :mad

Oh FFS.

Ernie (lab) has a BFF that's an elderly cavalier. He runs free for an hour with little Charlie brining up the rear. SUPERVISED. Ernie is a big dog and while he's not aggressive - little Charlie could get hurt. That's just basic common sense. I'd no more leave the two of them in my back garden unsupervised than I would a toddler and an 8 year old human.

If I can figure it out - why can't a so called dog expert? And why are people so stupid???

I have been asking this myself for a long time now.

Good question Hazy??? Often wondered the same thing. I didn't know who he was until I meet him at the world dog games in Sydney some years back. I don't watch BB.

He was walking around with a nice Kelpie & a big smile but dog credentials, ???

I honestly don't know.

From this article (http://whostheboss.pets4life.com.au/index.php/farmer-dave-knows-about-working-with-dogs-but-who-really-is-the-boss/):

"As head of our important team of behaviour teaching dogs Matilda gets free reign of the Centre, and really does an incredible job of managing each of the yards of dogs." :banghead:

His 'credentials' include growing up around "dozens and dozens" of working dogs on a property, training search and rescue dogs, being a behaviourist...but nowhere is this actually proven or backed up.

I also just came across a video of an activity at the centre called 'Dam Splash'. There are about twenty to thirty dogs of varying breeds and sizes let through a gate into a huge paddock with an enormous dam in the middle, and they can just run around willy nilly and "enjoy themselves". I'd say this is where Wags met his end :(
