Poor Wags looks terriefied :(

the facebook link doesn't work

Isn't Alice supposedly a dingo cross? :/

I thought she was a dingo as soon as I saw the clip.

Neko would be dead in an instant at that place because as soon as one of my whippets even touches her when they're running, she squeals to warn them. If she did that in a group of excited boisterous dogs who dont know her she'd likely be torn to shreds. I can imagine if poor little Wags yelped because he was trodden on, or knocked the same thing would have happened. :(

Can someone post a link to the facility's page please?

the link I posted came from the FB page of the owner of Wags and that page has now gone

OMG this guy is a nutter, how has it not sunk in! The owners that are still willing to leave their dogs there are irresponsible a%#holes and don't deserve to have any dogs.

How can anyone allow this to happen to probably the most gentle breed of dog I have ever had the pleasure to deal with is beyond me.

Is there not more the general public can do? I wish all doggie day care facilities were shut down.

The general public is told "you must socialise your dog at all costs or you are a bad owner" They believe this hype that all dogs should get along with total strangers at all times. Which is a load of rubbish. That if you deprive your dog of doggy interaction you are a bad owner. It is pushed down their throats all over the internet, you must take it to puppy preschool, you must go to obedience, you must let it free run at dog parks, you mustn't leave it home alone while you are at work etc. Poor general public and their poor dogs.

I think Farmer Dave's philosophy comes from Cesar Milan. All the dogs running together with their alpha leader.

Yeah but first you have to be alpha and all the dogs have to know that. Doesn't happen with random dogs arriving for "day care". Plus CM was really good at getting himself and others bitten...

Maybe it's just the idea of all the dogs running together.

Disclaimer: Obviously this isn't going to a be a popular statement in amongst all this vitriol, but I have met Dave a few times at APDTA conferences, and have always found him pretty knowledgeable about dogs and dog training.

While I would never board my own dogs in that sort of set up, because I've seen too many problems erupt in large groups of dogs, there is obviously a demand for that sort of care, fueled by the public perception that dog playtime is necessary for all dogs. I do think the training facilities he offers (dock dogs, herding schools, etc) are pretty unique, and I had aspirations to do some training there. I just hope the facility isn't forced to close entirely over this incident.

I fully agree that Wags sad death has been handled badly by Dave and/or his staff, but I'd like to remind everyone we are still very much hearing one side of the story, and a media beat up.

One side of the story? How many sides are there? The poor dog is dead, mauled to death at his facility - photos show a small dog in with large and extra large breeds, many of them. This is not vitriol, this is fact however I don't mind saying that I consider FD to be a completely irresponsible, money grabbing unprintable for placing so many dogs at risk, day after day. So many more stories coming out of the woodwork.

Seriously, what do you expect people to say?

The Wags page has been reinstated.

What I do find interesting though is since this all has gone down FD has really been over compensating on photos on his page i.e. 50+ photos from just 1 day - instead of trying to distract why don't they just step up and deal with it appropriately rather than be dishonest with multiple variations of stories?

He's got another FB page just called "Farmer Dave" where he's really feeling sorry for himself.

Not one iota of sympathy or empathy for how Wags' owner feels. It's just all about him, woe is Farmer Dave. Please ........

Question: you board your dog whilst you go on holiday at a free range facility - where does your dog sleep?

How happy would you be to discover those crates in the background of this photo is where your dog will sleep...all weather conditions...

I understand there is also a shed type building? Not kennels but just a large enclosure many dogs can all bunk in together in?

I am constantly amazed by people who leave their dogs at a facility they have not even seen, sometimes on the recommendation of a friend of a friend or (forgive me) because some anonymous person on the Internet recommended it. Sometimes it might even be that the facility organises convenient pickups, such as a vets, which people think means the place is okay.

sas That photo of the accommodation provided horrifies me. No way would my dogs be going to a place like that.

OMFG just when I thought it couldn't get worse, if that's where boarding dogs are sleeping????

He should be charged and his facility shut down, he quite clearly doesn't give a damn about any dog in general, they are obviously nothing but a source of income.
