Oh gosh - you are both having an awful run these last few weeks.

Big hugs. Hope you are well enough to get home to her asap and paws crossed all goes smoothly for her (and you).

Anyone I know who has treated a bitch with meds has also been advised to breed on the next heat. Which you can't do. Spey is the lesser of 2 evils I feel. Still very very hard to agree to for you though. And with you also laid up........ I wish you and Amber all the best and will be sending good vibes down your way

After consulting with various specialists the vets want to Spey her next week.

Great to see common sense prevail and you need to stay positive and not allow all those negative thoughts to keep coming up. She will be fine.

I hope you aren't implying that my common sense was lacking! I was going on vet advice. I think it was the repro vets at Monash that insisted she be desexed. Plus my vets sort advice from some American vet forum.

It really was not an easy decision for them to make.

Oh dear do you always take everything so personally? You had already posted several times it was a specialist vet who d isn't want her spayed so of course the common sense comment was directed at those who eventually made the decision she should be!

Arrgh Jules ... rock/hard place. :( Can get what you're saying about it being hard when she's looking chirpy, but on the other hand, probably better to operate when she's apparently feeling better .. hopefully recovery will be easier. Going to be a hard time .. thinking good thoughts for you and Amber, not forgetting Poppy.

If it helps, my puppy with a severe heart condition had to have surgery when he was about 4 months old. The heart specialist wrote up a drug protocol and instructions for the vet who did the surgery. It was so worrying but like you, there was no other option. He came through fine! I know it's different for Amber but I think she will do great x

Our papillon with congestive heart failure had to have a dental at 15 (he'd have died for certain without it) and, like you, the GA was extremely risky.

My parents had him operated on in a specialist clinic, with a team of people working on and monitoring him including a specialist anaesthetist. They thought they were going to lose him at one stage, but he pulled through and lived for a further two years.

It will cost a bomb, but if you can, have it done at a specialist clinic or otherwise have a specialist write the drug protocol and give instructions, like Kirty did.

It's a very hard place to be in when there's no option but to operate, and I feel for you. Remember too that while your dog may look happy, they are very good at hiding their pain and sickness.
