Potty training at night

Hi guys,

I recently got myself a new puppy, 8 weeks old lab.

I would like to get some advise/ feedbacks/ comments if I’m doing my potty training right.

During the day, I will take my dog out to the garden to do her business after a play, after she’s awake from her naps and after her meal time. So far she’s doing ok although there is the occasional accidents.

At night I put her in her crate and have training pads around her bed.

The past 3 days I’ve been too tired due to my work, I haven’t been setting up my alarms to wake her up every 2-3 hours to take her out to the garden. I just let her do her wee on the training pads inside her crate.

Is this a bad way to train my dog?

Thanks for reading.

I have never set the alarm for any off our pups .

Ours are encouraged to alert us and had clean pups .

I doubt the training pads will set you back bigtime but it’s more the lack off letting you k ow that will

Hi Kai!

I feel for you being exhausted from work.

I would recommend setting up a confinement area. Have her open crate in part of it, an area for toys and enrichment activities, and another where she’s able to pee if you’re unable to get to her in time. My preference would be for a fake grass toilet in that spot. Here’s an example of a confinement area. Having her pee in her crate will completely mess with her toilet training and isn’t nice for her.

Are you enrolled in a force free puppy school? There are online options if you’re in lockdown. There are many important things for you both to learn during her critical development period.

The world wont end if you need to catch up on sleep so dont get overwhelmed by that
