My Vet

I have found the best Vet in the whole wide world!

I have been quite a few times now and my visit today is a typical example of why I love my Vet:

I took both my dogs and spent a whole HOUR in with the vet, who not only actually LISTENED to everything I said with interest, but treated my opinions and conlusions with the utmost respect with no hint of the rolled eyes and the pftt what would you know look that most Vets have. All of my questions (and there were many) were answered with thoughtful consideration, there was no feeling of being rushed and pushed out the door, although they were and always are a clearly busy practice.

As he examined my dogs, he explained everything that he was doing, why, how, what his exam told him and what conclusions he made, all in plain english.

He took plenty of time to go over explanations and examples of possible treatment options and was honest in discussing with me the pros and cons of each.

Was exceptionally good at handling my dogs, again not rushed at all, took all the time needed for them to come to him, that they would not feel threatened or overly stressed (which is so important particularly for Loki).

Treated me like I was an equal, instead of patronising me like many Vets have in the past.

For the hour long consultation and the medications I got for each of my dogs, it cost me under $100.00

:D

I have a similar vet... makes such a difference when you feel as though the vet actually cares about your pet, rather than just doing a job.

my vet spends so much extra time keeping up to date with the latest research, and He calls me on sunday to give me the results of bloodtests cause he says he knows how much i worry,,,, he is really unbelievable..

pleased for you. Nice vet.

I have been having a bit of a whinge about the local vet practice. I am sure some people think it is cute but I recieved a letter addressed to Rusky

Dear Rusky

your vaccinations are due, please tell Mum or Dad to bring you for your etc etc

I really worry about a vet that thinks my dogs can read :rainbowbridge:

I will change vets, get one that knows I read all the dogs mail :D

Its great when you find a great vet, esp someone who seems to like your dog/s as much as you do. We found the best ever surgeon specialist for our girl, all up he has done 4 ops on her and only charged us for 2 - we love him to bits unfortunalty though he has just quit his position at the animal hospital we take our girl too, :D and has referred us to another sugeron at the same practice, he is fantastic too but not the same as the first surgeon!!

When you find a good one stick to them!!!!

Our Vet is fantastic: what a kind loving clinic, each nurse knows each dog/cats name and as most of the vets and nurses live in my area we all see each other socially @ the park. My Vet never rips me off or tries to sell me foods/medications we dont need, They will set up an account for you so you dont need to re mortage the house in case of an emergency. They have stayed back after hours on numerous occasions and taken me into the operating areas to explain what they would be doing to my little guy. There wil be a few bottles of wine being dropped off @ xmas.

Exactly - I think the vet we have now is great - I do not object to taking Kaisie in for the annuals, paying a bit more for the wormers etc and even buy the shampoo there - actually, I don't think they charge all that much anyway - but the attitude, the bond with the dog etc all mean a lot. He also came out to check & advise regarding the horse, which is a bonus cause not all vets will do big animal work as well. :mad

He was really interested to see the dog in her "home" environment - totally different he reckoned to see her here as opposed to the surgery. Of course, she was loose and doing zoomies non-stop for him.

He doesn't do the foaling side, but they happily referred my D-i-L when she asked.

cheers

Alright, but the next time I call they better not tell me his is booked till 2007

If you are lucky enough to live around the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne and you want to see the greatest Vet ever, call Kilsyth Vet Clinic and make an appt to see Adrian :D

Oh, well they're partners. I was pretty close?

Uncle Adrian used to be my horse vet years ago when I lived over that side. I still take all my small animals to that clinic, and I've lived on the Mornington Pen for over 10 years now.... Its a long drive for me, but IMHO worth it.

I wont say who my fav is at that clinic. And I dont even have a rotti. :D

They are my vets too!! I've known Adrian for about 15 years. It's getting harder and harder to get an appointment with him though. The dogs won't co-operate and get sick when he is consulting.

I've found Jon to be ok too. His quiet and gentle manner suits my very stressy dog.

There is a vet at the top of our street but I wouldn't take any of my animals there. They have misdiagnosed previous animals and ripped me off with one of my cats and tried to rip me off again.

My current vet is great. They really care about my animals and don't try to rush us out. The pay attention to what I say and sometimes don't even charge us. When they first found out that I had Norwegian Elkhounds, they did a lot of reading on the breed to see if they had any health problems because they had never had Elkhounds before. I wouldn't go anywhere else. I can ring them at any time if I have any problems.
