  1. Ohhhh so Ari is a breedist hey? ;) So is Zac, he likes other dogs, but he likes Vizsla's the best... Though, he'll accept a Weim or GSp if he *has* to!
  2. Stranger: Nice Weimaraner / Ridgeback... Me: Ah, yeah, actually he's a Hungarian Vizsla.... Stranger: Oh, crossed with a Wei / Ridgeback? Me: Yeah, a cross for sure Sometimes I try to 'educate' the wider public, most times I don't bother...
  3. I recently rehomed a 12.5 year old Vizsla, so it can be done. And she has chronic arthritis and we had to have about $1300 worth of vets work done before she was 'ok to rehome'. Just need to come across the right person! Good luck to you, but I urge you to contact the rehome groups ASAP as it's not always easy finding the right 'forever' home...
  4. Fran - does this mean Atlas gets to sleep on the bed tonight? So glad to hear he came running and held off your intruder! With snarls and barks only!! I'm very impressed. So, does this mean you'll be asking dor a screen door for your birthday / Christmas
  5. After our Zac being attacked at an off lead dog park by a pack of dogs and being pinned to the ground by throat by the pack leader, hubby kicked the crap out of the dog and also got his leatherman (knife) out to really stop the dog, fortunately it didn't come to that. The dog was not going to give up and Zac was only a puppy at the time, so could have easily got even more out of hand. After a few swift kicks and 'come and get your effing dog mate' the owner came over and tried ripping his dog off. Funny how all the owners of the pack dogs disappeared after that. Hubby always carries his leatherman when he walks Zac now and has reached for it a few times when people can't call their dogs off. Again, a swift kick seems to do the trick most times...
  6. The annual Vizsla Xmas Picnic is on Sunday 6th Dec at South Beach in Freo from 11:30am... "Honourary" Vizslas are more than welcome to mix it with the Red Devils :D
  7. I suspected this, but there's got to be an expert or ex-player out there that can show us the ropes!
  8. So are there any flyball clubs / trainers / experts / ex-players in Perth? I would love to be shown the ropes and have someone guide me as to what goes on! Any information / links / contacts would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!!
  9. My Vizsla is TERRIFIED of our cat (Marcellus)... Our cat also hates Zac... if Zac so much as puts a paw out of his bed (inside) the cat swipes him and hisses. The cat pushes Zac off his dinner, steals his chicken wings & necks... And Zac won't do anything! Zac was on the couch last night with us and the cat was NOT impressed. He sat on the floor in front of Zac, staring him down and Zac kept looking away and not making eye contact. Zac ended up jumping off the couch and running back to his bed - which is in another room! Some things just sort themselves out... some don't...
  10. I'm after Sue Hogben's contact details... I've googled her name and her kennel name with no luck and have done a DOL search, get her name heaps of times but not her contact details. If anyone could pass them along or point me in the right direction, I'd be most appreciative! Thanks...
  11. Zac used to do this. We invested in a really snuggly bed for him and did the 'get off' and pushed him off the couch technique... Also, during the night we found he was 'sneaking' onto the couch and sleeping there! We put alfoil on the couch (when we went to bed) and he hated the sound and feel so he wouldn't jump up anymore. We also figured out he was cold and added a blanket to his bed and how he's toasty warm and loves his bed more than any other place! (Except in our laps of course!)
  12. PPS was the worst experience for us and puppy... 1ST class he spent cowering under the chair 2nd class when he finally came out of his shell, he didn't want to go back on lead... Offlead at the beginning, then we spent the next 40mins constantly tugging and yelling over our barking pup, the trainer became frustrated and gave up on him. All he wanted to do was chase the other puppies around, so the only thing we got out of the 2 classes we went to was that he was socialised with other puppies. Now we just take him to a dog park where he can be offleash and do what he likes.... Yes, it's good for socialising, but don't lecture me on grooming (the same speech every session) and don't let the dogs play and then expect them to sit patiently for the next hour!
