  1. I believe Showdog off here has kennels and are very highly thought of. Thanks Xolo. I'll PM Showdog then
  2. Hi all! I'm looking for recommendations on pet hotels/boarding kennels. We are based in central but wouldn't mind traveling to SOR or NOR. So long we can be assured that our lil' one will be in safe hands. Anyone?
  3. Great post!!...coz I've been wondering the same for the longest time for my 5mth old who is 9.5kg Finally bought a slab of lamb flaps earlier today and will give it a go tmr. A lady at the butcher's bought a bag of knuckle bones, she showed them to me.. seems less fatty and much meatier than the lamb flaps. But someone mentioned earlier that knuckle bones are too hard...Really? So not a good choice for little fellas? Met someone briefly who's a vet the other day and she mentioned that she's seen many cases of dogs with fractured jaw from chewing too hard a bone She kept mentioning to go for meaty bones but didn't specify types of bone (ie: knuckle..shank..etc) Should I even bother to try those mixed bones bags frm woolies/coles or the butchers?
  4. Not quite Agility and jumping qualifiers are held in the morning from 9am until probably lunch time Games classes are held in the afternoon. The morning is probably better to watch as it makes a bit more sense than watching games Although Strategic Pairs are great to watch ;) Oh, I only realised after I read your post that DB was asking about Saturday I thought she was asking about Sunday! I blame the nerves Thanks amypie & mirawee! Woww... Games classes..Strategic pairs... all sound so alien to me!! Looks like there's lots to learn... Good luck to all!!!
  5. Hey guys, can someone advise on when is the best time for me to go watch the trial on Saturday? I know it starts at 9am but does the trial go on for a whole day? What time does it end? It says on the Dogs West site that judging is at 9am and 1pm...so does that mean the trial actually starts during those times? As you can tell I've never been to one and have no idea how the whole thing is being conducted:o But I'm so excited to be going on Sat and am equally excited for those of you who are participating!! Promise I'll !!!!
  6. Hi all. Thanks for the replies and suggestions. The barking is still going on every now and then but I'm dealing with it with less stress now. I've been consistently telling him 'No' in a calm assertive tone and distract him with his toy. This seems to be working and sometimes just by standing next to him helps too... maybe by that it gave him reassurance that he's safe with me by his side. The biting is better as well. He respond well to 'No' and I'll just walk away, not giving him any contact until he calms down. I really do hope that the barking will be under control as we live in an apartment and I certainly do not want to cause any disturbance to our neighbours. We train him consistently everyday so he's been able to follow a series of commands and we'll be starting obedience in a week or two so I hope that will give him more focus as well.
  7. 3 days ago, just out of the blue... my 4mth+ pup became easily agitated by certain sights (mainly ppl he sees along the pathways from our aprt's balcony) and sounds which will result in him barking persistently and even towards me :D He recognises the words "Ugh-ugh" and "No" as something we don't like so I've tried different methods 'conveying' these words to him but to no avail... I've tried saying them w a calm and soft tone which I get ignored. I've tried saying it w a stern tone and a fierce look which in turn got myself being barked at. I've tried to give him a quick tap on his body to try to snap him out of it but he gets 'aggressive' in the sense that he'll try to bite my hand. I've tried to lead him away from the place/things he saw but he'll run back there shortly and continue barking. I've tried even to hold his muzzle and pin him down gently to try to calm him which seems to help a tad but soon after I've let go, he'll sprung back and try to bite my hands And since then he's been putting his mouth over my wrist/fore arm every now n then n wat it seems like he's trying to give it a good bite :D This is extremely scary and disheartening for me becoz hubby and i have been consistently training him on bite inhibition since we got him at 12wks. I'm wondering if this is the 'fear period' for him. He used to like sitting by the balcony door or on the balcony quietly, enjoying the breeze and people watching. But he now seems so wary of passer-bys and barks at them. He doesn't bark at our guests in the house tho, neither at strangers in the park while we are walking. Which is why I'm so puzzled. The only consolation is that these behaviour only seems to happen at home... so far and the biting bits towards me only. But still, it's unacceptable and I certainly do not want it to escalate any further. So please, any thoughts as to why this is happening and what I can do/try to rectify the situation?
  8. U can try http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au Just bought some toys off them recently. Chose them over another online store coz their postage worked out much cheaper and item prices were comparable. Look out in places like k-mart too. Just bought a Kong Puppy Wubba for $5.50 instead of the usual $14+ as it was on clearance!!!
  9. How abt getting one of those pee pad holders that has a frame and tray that holds down the pad? One of the main reason I think y pups chew on pee pads is because the pads r light, make noise when moved on the floor, have soft texture.. all these coupled w the pup's curiosity - perfect 'toy'. Ozzie's potty trained indoor coz we leave in an apartment as well. His potty consist of a piece of fake lawn (purchased frm Bunnings) laid on top of sheets of newspaper (used to b pee pads but we figured it cause too much in the long run). Key reasons for the fake lawn was for it to be highly distinguishable for the pup in terms of look and texture when he's at home and also that he knows he can do his business when he's out on grass patches. I know most will advise that u shld not mix indoor and outdoor potty training but thankfully so far Ozzie's doing well with what we've set up for him:) Hope this helps give u some options to consider.
  10. Hey GABBA, my 4mth+ pup seems to had gone through the same thing. Like urs, it just happened out of the blue I agree w dyzney & persephone on the pup being still full. That was what I reckon so I let Ozzie sort of fast for the day, getting some kibbles and treat here and there but no full meal. The next day I reduced his full meal portion (Eukanuba) by half and added something 'special' that he always like - a little boil rice, just to whet his appetite. Subsequent meals were on reduced portion and every now n then I'll add a little 'extra' such as boil rice, wet food or even just some water along with his kibbles and it has been working wonders. I noticed too my little one drinks a lot of of water... that could have partly suppressed his appetite too.

  12. Looks like Bobby Dazzler it is then... thanks all
  13. If you mean the one on Archer Street in Carlisle, don't EVER go there unless you are happy for your dog to be literally beaten into submission I could tell you a story or two from my own experience. Apparently there is a very good groomer on Albany Highway in Vic Park or East Vic Park (can't remember which) and a lot of the regulars at my local dog park go there. A few of them could also tell you horror stories about the afore mentioned groomers. Goodness what happened to urs?! I hope ur pooch has recovered from watever trauma he/she's gotten... n u too Appreciate the heads up tho, thanks! I might be mistaken buy I think the lady from Train A Pup Time is also a groomer and I can vouch for her being very gentle and patient. Thanks ValleyCBR. I'll go check on her website again later. Yeah, I've read some where that ppl were recommending Bobby Dazzlers and it's relatively close to me, so there's another plus point. Thanks
  14. Hey, to those in Perth... has anyone had your dog(s) groomed at either Posh Pooch in Cloverdale or Bobby Dazzler in Midland? If yes, any good? Would you recommend them? Pls do share if u have others to recommend in Perth. I wanna bring lil' Ozzie in for a trim...also to start getting him accustom to the whole grooming salon environment. I've started brushing him since the first week we got him and even tried trimming him myself. Took me almost an hour to trim his 2 hind paws ... but that's abt as far as I dare to try... I'm pretty sure that I'll poke into his eyes if I try to trim his face! Better leave tat to the pros... Thanks a bunch!!
