  1. Can anyone help me out with training in the valley? We tried the obedience club but it didn't suit us or the dogs but would like to continue some formal training
  2. What was the reason why you stopped training your dog? The only available training here was an obedience club that didn't seem to offer much in the way of training. Do you feel your dog is well trained enough? No but we,re working on it at home Did you not get results from previous training attempts?no. The sessions revolved around walking in a circle. Stopping and continuing... Same thing or months... Is training too far away/ too often/ too expensive? Other training is too far away Are you simply too busy? nope happy to spend a couple of hours a week training Did you find training boring? Yep What would prompt you to start training again or would you not start training again regardless? I would love to train again. If a suitable training should emerge
  3. i have a whole hearted YES to dogs having nightmares. after adopting my boy 4 years ago we have seen his 'nightmares' go from daily, terrified whimpering yelping growling running things where he'd wake up terrified, be head shy and afraid of men all over again (after gaining his trust from an abusive past) to gradually reducing to maybe once a month/ two months and only takes about 10 minutes to come around and realise nope still in safe happy house no reason to be scared. it is heartbreaking to watch but good to know we have helped him.
  4. im wandering along the same path leelaa17. goodluck!
  5. id just like to say while this is an unfortunate situation to have happened, thankfully noone was more seriously injured and YES the man should be checking his equipment regulary, having a go at him for not "being bothered" to teach his dog good recall hits me rather personally. He may be in training with his dog, he may have been in training for some time. his dog may be unresponsive to training or have issues which make it difficult to train. i myself have a bordercollie x who has zero recall when another dog is around. this is not for lack of trying. we have been training with him for near on 4 years now with no luck. he does not come off lead full stop as i know that if he was to see another dog he's gone until i can catch up to where ever the other dog is and catch him. You do not know the circumstances behind this dog to make that sort of a conclusion on his owner. yes the lead broke. im sure this guy with double and triple check from now on. that is no reason to have a go at him in regards to his training of his dog. he did not purposely let it of lead, probably for the exact reason he had no recall.
  6. urghhh i feel you pain. my partners nephew is 'terrified' of dogs... i put it like that cause im almost certain he does it to get a reaction from his parents, which he almost always does. it gets a bit ridiculous at times. kid comes over, dogs outside, kid wants to play outside, dogs inside, kid needs a drink, dogs outside, kid playing again dogs inside, kid needs to pee, dogs outside. IT DRIVES ME NUTS. one day i'll get entirely sick of it and say no. you want to be in my house you deal with my dogs. they both LOVEEEEEE kids and get on with his brother like a house on fire! i say- tell em to deal with it (with supervision of course) crate or shut dogs up at night and if they don't like those rules. HOTEL
  7. my girl cost under $300 with ALL VET WORK. from the pound near me. and reg till this year.
  8. it is indeed save a dog scheme that look after the latrobe pound. all dogs are safe. cats however, are another matter
  9. i never get breed confusion.. mainly cause we don't particularly know what their breeds are but apparently spider is a scary looking dog as told to me by several people... see my signature.... TERRIFYING!
  10. it was my impression that save a dog scheme rescue all dogs from latrobe(morwell) pound.
  11. i flew my 4 year old dog from perth to melbourne without any drama last year. don't know about this sending them crazy in the head business.. he was crazy in the head to begin with :p
  12. i am actually on the hunt for patches/ shirts that state either DO NOT PAT ME or ASK TO PAT ME as luna is VERY fearful of people. while i don't think she would bite anyone- if ridiculously cornered it may happen, she prefers to back away. there are so many stupid people where i live that practically chase her trying to pat her that i think it will end up worsening the situation for her and sending us back rather than forward - if anyone here has a good link to somewhere i can buy aforementioned patches/shirts that would be great! we're trying to get her past it but we need people with patience and treats in the right setting not tools outside of foodworks lunging at her
