  1. Gday All, In just over a week we are getting our baby Basset hound home. We have only 1 other pet, an Eclectus Parrot. The parrot is usually out free flying around our house when we are home. His big cage is in our living area. How do you let the puppy know the bird is not his dinner? Ofcourse if he looks like he will attack the bird and have a high hunting instinct we wont have them out together, but i hope they can get along. Is there some body language to look out for? Im assuming people have had similar experiences with new puppies with cats? here is a link to a vid that shows a basset and a parrot can get along! although just watching that makes me nervous! Thanks for the replies! ...Adam
  2. Im up in Yanchep. So anything in Joondalup or even Wanneroo would be nice. Yeah we have, his name is Odie Not the most original but we love it! ...Adam
  3. thanks for the tips! hehe Our household is quiet so he should be able to settle down easily. With house training he will be kept inside for a while until he gets a bit older and the weather warms up. We have tiled floors mostly so will try and train him to go on paper. but will let him outside when we are home and supervised. we bought him a bed, its a high sided circle one so hopefully he can curl up in it and feel secure. I will have to get some softies for him to snuggle up to. The breeder is going to give me more details on diet etc closer to the day so we can prepare. She advises to introduce new foods into his diet. I need to find a good vet near me, i might have to start a thread, or do a search. Im also trying to find a good puppy school :p Is crate training something that should be done? I have a dual cab ute and would love for him to travel in the back seat. Are those buckle in harnesses any good?? ...Adam

  6. Gday All, I joined the forum a little while ago and have been a bit of a browser and thought i'd say hi. I will be a new dog owner is 3-4 weeks, if all goes well. Me and my wife will be purchasing a baby Basset Hound from a breeder in SA. We live in Yanchep and we be looking for a good vet. My family had 2 rotties growing up who went to the same vet for most of their life and had such a great relationship with the vet. The male rottie absolutely loved the vet and i would like to find a good vet from the start with our dog. So, who knows some great vets NOR they can recommend?? I look forward to learning so much and this forum seems so far to be a great resource. Thanks! ...Adam
