  1. As far as I know markets come under the same code of practice as pet shops- pups/kittens only have to be MC-NO VAC!.

In the Grafton region we have had several outbreaks of parvo and these have been very severe so it will be a breeding ground there I would think.

We will be there with a MC scanner!, camera, posters etc though I am in QLD for the next 6 weeks.

We may be able to stop them under the code which says that domestic animals must be kept at a certain temp and the big shed they will be located in has no air con.

Again, please post a comment to the paper even if to say why you as a reg breeder wouldn't take your pups to a market to sell, it would put all the bybs back in their box.

  2. Thanks, Its impossible to get through to them !, they seem to think they are doing nothing to contribute at all to the unwanted domestic animals situation and are more then happy to take them along to a market or pet shop.

Lots of personal attacks happening now please add your comment to as I cant speak for any breeders only to say that alot do the right thing where as BYBs all do the wrong thing imo

  3. Hi

Grafton show soc is planning on holding small animal markets each month, this will include domestic animals.

There is a 156 long discussion going on at the moment on FB http://www.facebook.com/groups/240342079348017/.

I have been defending reg breeders and trying to get the message through to the many BYBs and their supporters on this site but it would be great if some good breeders were to add their comments as to why they wouldn't take their pups to flog at the local markets.

    Thank you.

  4. Steve Austin is pictured here with a dog he trained to locate feral cats in remote areas.

This dog is trained to scent-track cats, so they can be destroyed.

Though I cannot no for sure, Steve Austin seems rather pleased of his dog's achievements. I think I would be rather impressed if I trained a dog to perform in such a regular and useful way.

WTF!, who are you people? and what are you doing on a "animal rescue site:??

Anyone who enjoys killing animals has NO PLACE in ANY business associated with other animals!!

How would you deal with the feral animal problem Pandypam?

How I would deal with it is to try something that is working in other country's- high volume-low cost/free desexing.

Shooting, trapping, poisoning have not works though its been tried for many many years.

And frankly, if I had realized this was a site that is run by dog/cat breeders I would NEVER have joined, so you pump them out one end and then "allow " the others to rescue them??, get a real job!

Give me humane destruction via bullet over baits or traps any day!

God know what you think of purebred dog owners who use their dogs for hunting but frankly, I don't really care.

Build a bridge. No one's forcing you to hunt.

Oh and in case you haven't noticed this ISN'T an animal rescue site. It's a site for the promotion of purebred dogs whose owner allows rescue to operate from here.

This is NOT an animal rescue site, it is a pure bred dog site.

Who said anything about enjoying killing animals? The animals are feral and a problem and need to be managed.

I think you may need to become less emotional about your subject matter if you want people to take what you say seriously.

This is posted in the rescue forum!, I didn't comment out in the "breeders" section. As for being emotional, the moment I stop being that will be a day when I will worry about whats "wrong" with me.

  7. OVER 50 RESCUE GROUPS HAVE UNITED IN THIS VITAL ATTEMPT TO IMPLEMENT A HIGH VOLUME/LOW COST DESEXING PROGRAM.

    PLEASE READ/SIGN AND SHARE.

We are pleading for some help and support for our domestic animals here in Australia.

As many of you will know, every year over 250,000 dogs and cats are killed!, the numbers keep raising and the cruelty associated with it is heartbreaking.

For many years small reg animal rescue charity's have worked at the coal face of animal rescue, saving dogs and cats on Deathrow from the many pounds around the country, many have also been assisting low income people with desexing their animals and working within their communities, they do all this on very limited funds and most involved are volunteers.

The USA/SPCA, BEST FRIENDS, SPCA New Zealand, Blue Cross/Dogs Trust UK, No KILL NATION etc and our own AWL with their G2Z plan, all stress that one of the first steps to reducing unwanted pets is for high/volume/low/cost/free desexing programs to be targeted at the lower socio economic groups who either cant or wont desex their pets, to all of us it makes perfect sense yes?

Not to the RSPCA who have NEVER had any desexing programs to speak off, they dont liaise with other smaller rescue groups and hence dont have a grasp of the problem and dont know where these "targeted" regions are.

We are asking the RSPCA to put some serious funding into implementing HVLC desexing programs ( targeted) in each state.

RSPCA NSW and RSPCA VIC have accumulated funds/assets of over $140 million dollars, they are the ONLY animal welfare group in Australia who are in a position to do so.

How long are we to sit by and watch as our major animal welfare organisation continue hoarding the public's donated funds?, the time for change is now.

We have put together a petition asking for this and plan to have TV/radio support.

We really need your help and support on this very important issue, why are so many animals born just to die?

The petition has only be going for a couple of weeks and already we have over 40 animal rescue organisations on board as well as 2000 private signatures in support.

Please take the time to consider our appeal for help and support on this matter and we look forward to hearing from you.

If you need additional information please contact Barbara Steffensen from "ANIMAL RIGHTS & RESCUE GROUP" Lismore NSW on

    Phone 02 66 221 881

Barbara is the founder of a non- kill rescue center that has saved over 15,000 dogs and cats over the years, this group also help with low cost desexing program as limited fund allow, she has received many awards for her animal welfare work .

    Thank you for your time,

    Regards

Pam Holmes & Barbara Steffensen and,

Please sign this petition and it will be presented to all state RSPCA's.

  8. Spot on powerlegs, I thought it was fairly clear, stop the killings of unwanted animals.

The petition seems to be asking the RS to dig into their savings and run a large worthwhile desexing program.

Not force anyone to desex, or stop anyone breeding.

They have the funds, they really should be running more advertised voluntary neuter programs especially in the lower socioeconomic areas.

  9. target: 5000

    signature goal: 1,000

Sorry, I hope the link works.

    DESEX NOW.

We in animal rescue are sick and tired of the never ending tide of unwanted/homeless pets.

We smaller groups are sick and tired of doing what the RSPCA should be doing.

The RSPCA is the prime animal welfare org in this country and its their job, in fact they exist to stop animal cruelty, if the killing of over ( well over some say) 250.000 dogs and cats each year isnt cruelty, then what is?.

The quickest way to cut the kill rates is to have a massive desexing program NOW.

With huge public donations each year, why isnt it being done NOW.

This is in no way directed at the many people who do the ground work for the RSPCA.

  10. Ah Ha Nathan,

Seems people are looking to contact you!.

As for me, I dont seem to be able to hear what your saying on the utube tape, would you be able to post a transcript on Facebook please.

    As for Yagoona,

Ship the animals up to the Tradewinds pet resort at woodburn NSW that the RSPCA bought and then leased out to a private person/persons.

Its is on the market for 1.8mill, chicken feed really when you consider the huge amount of waste that there is, paying for the higher up admin staff etc.

RSPCA stink, and its never about the lowly workers who try their best.

I am a former employee of the RSPCA and the 1st Animal Behavioural Traininer in NSW who has continued to help them save animals that were going to be put down for failing an assessment. All free and with a 100% non-return rate once adopted.

Now all the RULES have changed. I posted a "UTUBE" video with a brief version of some of the crazy things going on behind closed doors. PLEASE look up NATHAN BARNES, RSPCA, dogs etc. I am the video with the long curly hair. Or WWW (dot) savehenry (dot) t35 (dot) com

    THANK YOU

Nathan Barnes & Henry the run away dog

p.s. yes I know the video is sideway's I am only good teaching people to speak to animals NOT tech stuff sorry.

New South Wales Primary Industries Minister Steve Whan's office has indicated an announcement could be made soon. I hope Steve also has time to talk to me before they go giving THIS place a blank check. I went to the Head offica of the DPI yesterday with my concerns and evidence of everything I am saying. I love the RSPCA Just not how they run it of the fact that they are not accountable to anybody.....

  11. Agree,

Have seen much worse, and while we dont know the full story her temp wasnt mentioned.

    p8240577_16fh6c2-16fh6c5.jpg

Seen dogs a lot thinner then that, she still has muscle left on her. Looks like a few good feeds, a malaseb wash and a packet of frontline would have done her

By the way the official meaning of emaciated should be:

    1%20emaciated%20dog.jpg

core 1: Emaciated. No obvious body fat, the ribs and backbones are easily seen form a distance. There is noticable muscle loss. The waist has an accentuated hourglass shape and the abdomen is severely tucked

And that is on the body score index all vets are taught. If you're going to say severely emaciated then this dog should literally be a walking skeleton. I've received a starved dog before, he had barely muscle left on his carcass and he still survived surgery and bounced back fine.

  12. Sorry but :) bloody hell, so Roxy had a skin condition!!, the RSPCA has $50 to $60 MILLION in thir coffers but couldnt treat the dog???,

You can blame the owner and should do, but instead of wasteing money on taking some drop kick to court, why not help with assisting get the dog well.

Many rescue groups would have had several dogs with skin probs, usually not a big deal these days.

  13. The rspca bought TWs some years ago with the promise that they would open up a shelter on the same property, useing the income generated from the boarding Kennel, it never happened!.

The rspca ran it for awhile then leased it out privately ( was there a public tender?).

The rspca still own the property ( house/kennels) but not the bussiness?.

Just makes me VERY angry that the rescue groups up this way would have killed for the chance to lease and run this facility both as a boarding kennel and a rescue centre, Im sure with proper managerment we could have made it work, but as far as I know the public were never made aware that the rspca had let TWs out.

Can anyone lend us $1.85 mill?

This was in the news on the 10th of November - today http://www.echonews.com/850/index.html

    RSPCA Buys Resort

The RSPCA is buying the Tradewinds Park Pet Resort at Woodburn, which it will continue to operate as a first class pet boarding resort. RSPCA CEO Bernie Murphy said that the profits from pet boarding will be used to establish an animal shelter on adjoining land.

"The purchase is expected to be finalised in early February," he said. "The new shelter, when completed in 12- 18 months time, will support the work of the RSPCA in the area as will the recent appointment of a full-time inspector for the region."

Mr Murphy said Inspector Peter Bartley will be based at Lismore to cover the far north coast area.

Do you have a business plan?

To late now Steve, might find time for a raffle lol

We in the nth rivers are in urgent need of help, "ARRG "save animals from several pounds in that area, Grafton has "Happy Paws" who are full up and in great need of support and "Grafton Animal Rescue" ( though we now can only help with desexing and some kittens/cats).

What happened here, where is the shelter?, who tendered for the lease of TWs?.

  16. Great news about the hotline Steve, now how about some more people to attend the called in cases?

State Government Funds New Animal Cruelty Hotline: Whan

    October 30, 2010

Primary Industries Minister, Steve Whan, today said NSW has a new weapon in its fight against animal cruelty, with the State Government funding a hotline phone number for people to report suspected animal cruelty cases.

Mr Whan announced the hotline at the inaugural RSPCA conference in Sydney, where hundreds of RSPCA staff including inspectors, shelter staff and vets gathered for the first time together under one roof.

"This year our Government has supplemented its annual grant of $424,000 to the RSPCA with a further $30,000 to create a hotline for reporting animal cruelty," said Mr Whan.

"Mistreated animals can’t communicate their suffering, but this is another way for the RSPCA to give them a voice.

"The 1300 CRUELTY hotline for reporting animal cruelty will make the RSPCA more accessible to the community, particularly for those outside the Sydney metropolitan region.

"The hotline will complement the current cruelty report pages on the RSPCA NSW website and will actively highlight the plight of abused animals in our communities.

"I commend the RSPCA for this new initiative and am sure it will be a valuable way for the public to bring animal welfare abuses to the notice of authorities."

RSPCA Chief Executive Officer Steve Coleman said the organisation was thrilled to be supported by the NSW Government with the 1300 CRUELTY number.

"The hotline will greatly assist our regional branch network and hopefully encourage residents of regional NSW in making contact with us so we can help," he said.

Mr Whan today told delegates at the RSPCA NSW annual conference that the NSW Government continued to support the organisation because of the value of its work.

"Since the introduction of the first prevention of animal cruelty legislation early last century, the RSPCA has acted on behalf of the NSW Government as inspectors of animal welfare.

"The RSPCA has been working this way for more than 100 years, and has been especially active in enforcing the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 in recent years.

"We recognise the services provided by the RSPCA and its ongoing efforts in reducing cruelty to animals, and provide significant funding in recognition of its’ work.

"In addition to its enforcement role, the RSPCA also provides assistance in response to emergencies and delivers programs which help communities across the State respond to animal issues."

To report animal welfare abuse, you can now call 1300 278 3589 (1300 CRUELTY).

  17. What a mess!,

You are just great to keep plugging away at trying to make improvments at Killy, oops I mean Kurri pound.

Dont you wish we had a magic wand and could just wave them all away and get someone to run the show who has the animals best interests in mind.

  18. f***ing website won't let me sign up!! Will try again later to register my disgust. shame on him

Me to, how do they know what im going to say

Can anyone sign up to 10?, must not be taking new members

same, I'll go back later too.

May be with cross posting this into the general rescue thread? I'm sure there are plenty of people on there who would like to comment on the Channel 10 forum?

I would, but I don't know how..... Or if that is allowed?

  19. The Geelong puppy farm is owned by an elderly women who is not in the best way herself.

The RSPCA were "monitoring" things when ALV decided that something had to be done asap, with the temp being -3 at night and no bedding these little dogs needed help straight away.

11 or 12 were surrendered and the remaining were given lots of warm beds, had their cells cleaned etc.

I understand that there will be more talks with the women on Monday with the hope that more dogs will be rescued.

All dogs need vet work, de sexing, teeth, tumors etc and ALV are asking anyone with a few $$ to help.

:rofl: for this group for doing a great job and helping both the dogs and the unfortunate aged women.
